Manny Pacquiao's boxing comeback falls short in majority-draw loss to Mario Barrios
Two judges scored the bout a draw, and Barrios was given a 115-113 victory on the third card.
Pacquiao, enshrined into the International Boxing Hall of Fame last month, was trying to break his own record for oldest welterweight champion. He was 40 when he emerged in 2019 split decision over Keith Thurman. This also was his first appearance in the ring in nearly four years for the 46-year-old Filipino, a loss by unanimous decision to Yordenis Ugás.
Barrios, a 30-year-old from San Antonio, was a -275 favorite at BetMGM Sportsbook. He hoped to bounce back from a split-decision draw on Nov. 15 against Abel Ramos, but didn't exactly come away with an emphatic victory in improving to 29-2-2. The heavily pro-Pacquiao crowd loudly booed the decision.
Pacquiao's resume includes 12 world championships in eight divisions. He now is 62-9-2 and said right after the fight this likely wasn't his last.
Sebastian Fundora (23-1-1, 15 KOs) retained his WBC super welterweight title when Tim Tszyu (25-3) didn't come out for the eighth round in the co-main event. Fundora floored Tszyu with a left hand in the first round and dominated the action with 118 power punches, according to Compubox, by repeatedly backing down the Australian.
'I'm the bigger guy,' said Fundora, who led 69-63 on all three judges' cards. 'Everyone says I'm a bully in the ring, so I thought I should start really bullying these guys. I just kept working on aggression my whole career and we've just been adding.'
It was a big week for Fundora, who was accepted into Harvard and then won the rematch with Tszyu. The first fight on March 30, 2024 was much closer, with Fundora emerging with a split-decision victory.
The Coachella, Calif., resident also had been the WBO champion, but that organization stripped him of his belt for not fighting mandatory challenger Xander Zayas.

The team announced the signing of rookie kicker Mark McNamee, a native of Ireland who will replace Alex Hale -- who was released on Monday -- as the backup kicker and international player on the 91-player offseason roster on Tuesday. The Packers start training camp on Wednesday and needed a backup kicker behind veteran Brandon McManus. McNamee (6-4, 208) was previously a goalkeeper in Gaelic football in Dublin, Ireland. He got a chance to work at the NFL Scouting Combine as part of the International Player Pathway Program and made 13 of 14 field goal attempts. McNamee was most recently a member of the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League. Despite making both of his field goal attempts during the preseason, McNamee was released by the Lions on June 1. McNamee is replacing Hale, an Australian native who was placed on the non-football injury (NFI) list to start training camp after suffering an eye injury. It's possible the Packers are giving McNamee a chance to showcase his talent while Hale recovers and will then make a decision between the two once Hale is healthy again. McNamee joins punter Daniel Whelan as the second Irish player on the Packers roster. The Packers also announced the signing of rookie wide receiver Will Sheppard, an undrafted free agent out of Colorado. The move was first reported on Monday.

Ian Baker-Finch will retire from golf coverage on CBS
NEW YORK (AP) — Ian Baker-Finch is retiring after CBS ends its PGA Tour golf coverage next week after nearly 19 years of his friendly Australian voice contributing to the network's broadcast. Baker-Finch, best known for his British Open victory in 1991 among his 16 victories worldwide, joined CBS in 2007. He had worked the previous decade in golf announcing with ESPN and TNT. 'Golf has been an enormous part of my life,' Baker-Finch, 64, said in a statement. 'I was fortunate to compete against the best players in the game and more recently work with the very best in television.' CBS ends its 2025 coverage of the PGA Tour next week at the Wyndham Championship. 'As a major champion during his successful playing career and over three decades in broadcasting, Ian Baker-Finch distinguished himself as one of the most respected and trusted voices in golf,' said David Berson, the president and CEO of CBS Sports. 'As he announces his retirement, we'll miss his passion, insight, warmth and steady presence on the air but know he will continue to make his mark across the world of golf.' ___ AP golf:

Round 1: Fundora is working the jab and Tszyu swinging for the fences already. Tszyu has a fair read on the distance early. Fundora is falling short with the jabs. Tszyu is also looking to dip on the outside for the right hand up the middle against the southpaw Fundora. BIG KNOCKDOWN FROM FUNDORA! Catches Tszyu trying to shift to the outside with a big left cross and Tszyu beats the count. Fundora is not pressing the pace too much and Tszyu lands a good left over the top. He's clearly stronger, more of that. Tszyu literally punches Fundora's right thigh. Now Tszyu is doing a good job covering the jab with his lead hand. He's having more success getting in and landing to the body (and thigh, lol). Tszyu leaned to his left too much and Fundora lands another left hand that gets a pop from the crowd. Tszyu has stopped worrying about the lead hand battle and Fundora is marching forward again. Tszyu and his coaches have some good ideas but it looks like he lacks the discipline to keep the plan in place. Close round. MMA Fighting scores the round 10-9 Fundora (30-26 Fundora) Round 4: Tszyu is back to the high guard that he's had no success with. Tszyu is on auto pilot now. Tszyu goes cross to the body, left hook high and Fundora comes over the top, punishing Tszyu for having audacity. Tszyu is stuck against the ropes again this round. Tszyu is getting pot-shotted again. Tszyu is now winging in the right, Fundora landing 3 punches to Tszyu's one. Fundora got a bit lazy and Tszyu lands another big right over the top. He can't seem to hurt Fundora. Now Tszyu has Fundora's nose open again. MMA Fighting scores the round 10-9 Fundora (40-35 Fundora) Round 5: Much more success for Tszyu early. Fundora is not jabbing as much and Tszyu is coming back with big shots high and to the body. 2⁄3 through the round and Fundora decides to jab again. Tszyu decides to try to fight the lead hand again and find the outside angle. Tszyu threw a dangerous leaping left hook that he got away with. Fundora is ending the round strong, putting Tszyu in the corner. Tszyu finally banks a round. Every time Tszyu gets his high guard back up, Fundora begins to march him back to the ropes. The two get in a phone booth and Tszyu lands a massive right. They are now fighting in the pocket and it's all action! A big left from Tszyu. Fundora is starting to clinch up! Tszyu just had his best round! 'He's one tough motherf*****.' He seems in good spirits and calls Fundora the best fighter in the division. Tim Tszyu is obviously upset but he's taking the loss in stride. Now over to Fundora. Fundora is crediting his size for his win and wants to start 'bullying these guys.' He continues, 'I looked at myself in the mirror and said, 'Oh wow, I have reach.' Fundora is dry and he throws it out to Pacquiao and gets the crowd ready for Pac-man.
