Levain and Pretty Cool Ice Cream debut Cookies à la Mode collab today
As part of the sweet partnership, the local parlor—which has locations in Logan Square (2353 N. California Avenue) and Lincoln Park (709 W. Belden Aveue)—will serve an exclusive Toasted Vanilla Bean ice cream flavor alongside Levain Bakery cookies starting Friday, May 30.
Chef Dana Cree, who created the flavor exclusively for Levain, states: 'I'm a long-time fan of Pam and Connie, the creators of Levain Bakery, and jumped at the chance to partner with them—especially to help celebrate their 30th anniversary. The vanilla in our scoop is toasted, which I think will pair perfectly with the richness of their cookies.'
The Cookies à la Mode special will be available throughout the summer for $10.50, including one cookie and one scoop of ice cream.
Along with Chicago, Levain's à la mode offering will pop up at other top-rate scoop shops around the country this summer, with each local partner bringing their own twist on classic vanilla. Participating ice-cream parlors include Caffè Panna in New York City, Wanderlust Creamery in Los Angeles, J.P. Licks in Boston, Milk Jawn in Philadelphia and Dolcezza in Washington, D.C.

The family were being greeted by local mayor Erik Lauritzen - and as the Queen rubbed her leg in pain, her husband and two children looked on concerned before she went inside the town hall for assistance. It comes after Princess Anne's friend admitted that her horse accident was "so much worse" than people knew. Mary's family carried on with the walkabout, and after several minutes, she rejoined them in greeting the crowds. It later transpired that her sudden pain had been caused after she had been stung by a wasp. Danish publication Billed Bladet said: "The Queen certainly did not seem to be badly affected by the encounter with the stinging wasp, and she, together with the King, Isabella and Vincent, made sure to greet the many citizens who had gathered in the square." The family outing came as the King and Queen of Denmark moved to Gråsten, where each year they stay at their summer residence. It is believed they will be joined by their other children, Crown Prince Christian and Princess Josephine, at a later date. However, it is not the first time that Mary has been the victim of a freak event during a royal walkabout. Last year, footage emerged of her being hit by a scooter as she greeted well-wishers. It came during an official trip to Greenland when the incident took place. Footage of the moment showed the mum-of-four greeting well-wishers who had come out to see the royal couple and their youngest children. As Mary, dressed in traditional dress, chatted with fans, a scooter was seen nudging her legs, causing her to lose her balance and almost fall to the floor. Onlookers appeared shocked, and although Mary quickly composed herself, she appeared slightly shaken by the incident. Afterwards, the Queen's security quickly rushed in to push the scooter rider back, and later the Danish Royal House confirmed Mary was not injured in the incident. It was later reported that the scooter rider had been an elderly man who had tried to get closer to Mary in order to shake her hand. However, it is believed he accidentally hit his accelerator, prompting the incident, which left him shaken up, too. Mary's husband, Fred, became King of Denmark in January 2024 when his mother, Queen Margrethe, at the time Europe's longest-serving monarch, decided to abdicate. This made Mary Queen, and she became the first Australian-born Queen of a European monarchy. Her first brush with royalty came in 2000 when she met her future husband, the then Prince Frederik of Denmark, in a bar in Sydney during the Olympic Games. Mary didn't recognise the handsome stranger who introduced himself as 'Fred', and she gave him her phone number. He later recalled feeling she was his 'soulmate' from that first encounter. When news of their long-distance romance broke, Mary moved to Copenhagen. They wed in 2004 in a grand ceremony similar to that of Prince William and Kate's, with Frederik declaring, 'Mary is mine and I am hers.'

Paul Di'Anno, who died last year, was later anointed as their frontman, performing on their first two records before Bruce Dickinson joined the fray. His former band, More, announced his death in a social media message published on July 29th. Paul Mario Day, the original singer of Iron Maiden, has passed away at the age of 69 after a battle with cancer. The British-born vocalist also fronted bands like More, Wildfire and Sweet, leaving a strong mark on the NWOBHM scene. His passing was confirmed by Sweet guitarist… They shared: 'We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of the great MORE vocalist Paul Mario Day. "Paul was a huge part of the (New Wave of British Heavy Metal) from his time in an early version of Iron Maiden and of course his fantastic performance on the Warhead album.' More said of Day's legacy: 'He was a well loved figure in British rock music and played many memorable shows not least the legendary 1981 Monsters of Rock show at Castle Donington with AC/DC, Whitesnake /David Coverdale as well as tours with Iron Maiden Def Leppard and many other legendary artists.'
