Soccer-Pedro brace sends Chelsea into Club World Cup final
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (Reuters) -Chelsea's Joao Pedro marked his first start in spectacular fashion on Tuesday, scoring twice to fire the Premier League side into the Club World Cup final with a 2-0 victory over his boyhood club Fluminense.
The 23-year-old Brazilian forward, signed from Brighton & Hove Albion for 60 million pounds ($81.5 million) last week, curled home a fabulous strike in the 18th minute before sealing the win with a brilliant finish following a counter-attack early in the second half.
Chelsea will face Real Madrid or Paris St Germain, who meet in the second semi-final on Wednesday, in Sunday's final.

Luis Enrique eyes more history for PSG after reaching Club World Cup final
PARIS Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique savoured his team's performance in blowing away Real Madrid on Wednesday to reach the Club World Cup final and urged them to go on and cap a historic season by claiming yet another trophy. Two goals from Fabian Ruiz either side of an Ousmane Dembele strike, as well as a late effort from substitute Goncalo Ramos, gave PSG an emphatic 4-0 semi-final victory at MetLife Stadium against a Madrid team who have just started working under new coach Xabi Alonso. 'It is a beautiful victory and we are happy to be in the final,' said Luis Enrique. PSG came into the Club World Cup at the end of a campaign in which they won Ligue 1 and the French Cup before thrashing Inter Milan 5-0 in the final to win the UEFA Champions League for the first time in their history. Victory against Chelsea in Sunday's final at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey would mean PSG winning every competition in which they have taken part this season. 'That is the objective we have had since the beginning but it is always very difficult to achieve these things — very few teams can do what we are trying to do,' said the 55-year-old. 'We are one game away from making history for Paris and for a French club by winning every competition we have taken part in. That means a lot for us and for our fans.' PSG have been outstanding in 2025 and are such a well-oiled machine under Luis Enrique that they appear unstoppable, while Alonso only took over from Carlo Ancelotti as Real coach prior to the tournament in the United States. NEW JERSEY, July 10 — Fabian Ruiz scored twice as European champions Paris Saint-Germain turned on the style in their reunion with Kylian Mbappe on Wednesday, thrashing Real Madrid 4-0 in the semi-finals of the Club World Cup to set up a final showdown with Chelsea. Ruiz and Ousmane Dembele scored inside nine minutes to stun Real and silence the majority of the 77,542 crowd who were wearing white at the MetLife Stadium outside New York. The Spanish midfielder added another before half-time and Goncalo Ramos got a late fourth as Luis Enrique's side moved one game away from glory at FIFA's new tournament. Victory against Chelsea on Sunday would complete a campaign of unparalleled success for the Parisians, who won the French title and then the first UEFA Champions League in their history in May. 'We are in a special season, a special moment, and we deserved to win,' Luis Enrique told broadcaster DAZN before looking ahead to the final. 'We are going to try, one more step against a good team like Chelsea. They did great, they performed the whole competition and now it is time for us to prepare for that... we want to make history in our club, and then take some holidays.'
