After years of trial and error, I finally nailed down my curly hair routine — here are 10 styling products that made it happen

For years, I struggled to find the right routine for my curly hair. Between a changing curl pattern, frizz, and one very bad salon appointment, my hair has been put through the test. But after years of trial, error, and a lot of wash days, I finally pinpointed 11 styling products that are guaranteed to give me a good wash and go.
From moisturizing curl creams to curl-defining mousse, here are the styling products that completely transformed my hair care routine.
My curl routine at a glance:
On wash days (1-2 a week), wash hair with shampoo, conditioner, or co-wash. Apply a deep conditioner for 5-30 minutes to lock in extra moisture.
While still wet, add curl cream, hard hold gel, or mousse, using a detangling brush or wide-tooth comb to spread the product evenly.
Scrunch out extra water with a cotton T-shirt and let air dry for 10-20 minutes.
Dry using a diffuser and heat protectant. Seal with anti-frizz oil.
Oils for anti-frizz and strength
Oils are the finishing touch that make everything come together in my routine, especially when it comes to locking in moisture, adding shine, and taming frizz. I typically use them as the final step on wash days or to scrunch out the crunch from gel. These two are my go-tos for different reasons, but they both deliver when it comes to strengthening and smoothing my curls.
Bonus: A multitasking heat protectant
Not Your Mother's All Eyes on Me Hair Perfector
Whether I'm diffusing or doing a quick blow-dry, this product does it all — it protects, smooths, detangles, and hydrates. I like that it's lightweight and doesn't mess with my styling products, and I always feel better knowing my hair is protected from heat. I use this every wash day without fail.

My best curl advice
There's no magic product that works for everyone, but here's what's helped me stay consistent:
Understanding my hair's porosity and density. Once I figured out that my hair is low porosity and medium density, everything started making more sense. Products that were too thick would sit on my hair, and light, buildable formulas started working much better for me.
Layering with intention. I stopped throwing a bunch of stuff in my hair and hoped for the best. Now, I layer lightest to heaviest (cream → gel or mousse → oil), and it's helped with everything from frizz to longevity.
Trying products seasonally. My hair needs different things in winter versus summer. I learned to rotate in more hydrating or protective products based on the weather and humidity levels.
Listening to my curls. They'll tell you what's working. If they're dry, dull, or limp, switch it up. A good hair routine is about checking in with your hair and adjusting accordingly.
The bottom line
All in all, my routine changes depending on the look I'm going for and the season I'm in. The key is building a solid base of products that work for your hair type, and making sure they're flexible enough to adapt to your environment, whether you're fighting off winter dryness or summer humidity. Focus on products that help you build a strong foundation, then mix and match based on your hair needs.

A container of Cinnamon Toast Crunch Cinnadust simply because it's the best cereal ever, and who wouldn't love the taste of it on everything!? Use it on your coffee, ice cream, french fries, and more. An initial pendant necklace reviewers say is long-lasting and awesome quality for the price. And compared to the much more expensive versions you've probably seen at places like Anthropologie and Nordstrom, that's definitely a win! A stunning pleated skirt that has truly unmatched versatility. Wearing this to work, to a wedding, to brunch, or just on an errand with a pair of sneaks will work 10 out of 10 times. Maybe just get a few different colors while you're at it? A pair of LED stained glass bulbs to fill a room with colorful and inviting lighting. The round bulb protrudes a soft medley of color, while the diamond-shaped bulb showcases direct lines of colorful light. The gold finish on these cups is waaay better than those plastic ones you've got sitting in your drawer, don't you think? A rattan plant stand so your plant collection isn't full of the same ole boring pots. Give your green babes some extra height to catch those sun rays, or use it to simply spruce up your living room area. When the bright sun hits this planter, it'll give light to every other plant in the room. A zigzag martini glass set because it looks like something you may have scored at a flea market, but surprise — Amazon for the win. This beautiful glassware set of four happens to be dishwasher-safe, too. Vintage could never! A grassland, knitted jumper that'll have everyone ~m~ooing and aahing when they see it! This beaut would look radiant above your mantel, mounted in your hall, or leaning on your entryway table. A set of velvet colorblock pillow covers if you're in need of some extra color in your home. Your couch, bed, and accent chairs will never be the same without 'em! A sleek and slender olive oil dispenser set because it won't take up as much space as those big, bulky bottles oil usually comes in. These hidden gems also come with 37 (!!) labels for things like avocado oil, balsamic vinegar, French vanilla syrup, and much more — because, yes, the dispensers work perfectly for those items, too! A TikTok Bluetooth remote control for easy scrolling! It's perfect for navigating through your favorite app while at the gym, while cooking, and more. It can even be used to scroll through Instagram, read e-books, and take photos from afar without needing a timer. Genius. 👏🏾 A comfy wide-leg jumpsuit you can dress up or down, which means this piece can (and will) be worn over and over again, no matter the occasion. It's got puff sleeves, a cinched bodice, and pockets, too! A six-piece set of handcrafted ceramic dinner plates that'll make you feel like you're having dinner in a fancy shmancy restaurant every evening — whether the plates are filled with Kraft mac 'n' cheese or delicious homemade tortellini. These plates are microwave- and dishwasher-safe, as well as scratch-resistant! A unique glass vase to hold your flowers in something adorably quirky and unusual in the best way. This vase is wide from top to bottom, so your biggest, most beautiful bouquets won't have a problem fitting inside. A stylish midi tank dress perfect for those with a minimalist closet (or anyone who needs a few more good staple dresses). The material is stretchy, comfortable, and surprisingly thick, according to reviewers! An ultra-soft nonslip bathroom rug because it's washable, durable, and just plain cute. It would look great in your bathroom (duh) but also in your kitchen or entryway, too. A small pup-shaped hair clip that is secure and holds hair in a cute and comfortable fashion. Reviewers with short or fine hair say it's a must for dog lovers, and for those with thicker hair — try the half up/half down look! These cuties come in tons of breeds like, corgis, labradors, poodles, German shepards, and *so* many more. Wonderskin Wonder Blading One Step Lip Stain Masque, the super fun lip stain that ~glides~ on a holographic blue and peels off to unveil a gorgeous, long-lasting lip stain! According to reviewers, it can withstand any eating and drinking you do throughout the day, too. At this point, it's not a want but a need! A set of twisted candles that come in just about every color of the rainbow (and then some). Your dinner table and/or mantel will officially be complete! A *leak-proof* Simple Modern tumbler — yes, the insulated tumbler you keep seeing all over TikTok for not spilling. Reviewers say the hype is real *and* well-deserved. It includes a straw and a lid, has a convenient handle, comes in tons of great colors, AND is almost half the price of the also viral Stanley Cup. Do you need this? I think yes. A pair of puffy kitten heels you can confidently step out in, knowing you'll be dressed to the nines with unique accessories to match. Honestly, these mules are an Amazon hidden gem, so you might just be starting a new trend. A cool desktop jewelry organizer that's cactus-shaped (love!) and even has a catch-all tray for things like rings and bobby pins. The staggered and hollow branches allow for tons of necklace, earring, and bracelet storage, too. It's the perfect size to keep in your purse for touch-ups throughout the day and for saving space in your makeup bag. A strapless mesh bustier because the corset trend will never go out of style, and this one — with a zipper! — is one of the cutest, most affordable, and easiest to get into. This top comes in 20 (!!) cute and bold colors; you may want a different one for every day of the week. A ridiculously plush blanket you can use to keep warm while binging your favorite shows and also use as decor because it's just that dang cute. A gorgeous pour-over coffee maker set complete with a ribbed coffee dripper, a metal drip stand, and a heat-resistant coffee server. This gem is perfect for any coffee lover who HATES anything big and bulky in their kitchen (...because aesthetic, hello)! You'll have a delicious cup of joe and a new piece of home decor — the best of both worlds! A pack of mesh socks for an adorably elegant finishing touch on an outfit with sandals, heels, or Mary Janes. You can also wear these over thicker socks for some extra ~pizzazz~. A pack of super fun iridescent shelves to add some flair to your organizing. Reviewers use it for holding nail polish, toys, books, and sunglasses (of course!). A pair of hypoallergenic hoop earrings sure to be in heavy rotation because they go with *everything*. A tank and skirt set perfect for any upcoming occasion, whether it's a casual brunch or your bestie's baby shower. A two-piece set is an easy stunner, and *this* two-piece set is a comfortable and stylish choice that fits the bill. A pack of Gameboy wall decals as easy as peel, stick, and stare in awe. It'll make a fridge or a bedroom doorway more fun as it doubles as dry-erase boards, too. If that won't motivate you to write down your grocery list, I don't know what will. A rose and heart ice mold that'll make any beverage a floral dream almost too pretty to sip. Using the built-in funnels on the lid, simply pour your liquid of choice into the mold to get six lovely ice cubes hours later. Use it for everything from cocktails to iced coffee and more! A shabby chic ruched comforter set complete with two matching pillowcases — each made of ultra-soft and fluffy material and giving a luxurious look you wouldn't expect to come from Amazon. Cute handmade macrame hanging baskets, because they can be used for mail, fruit, or even as a small planter (which gives this major bonus points IMO). And with multiple tiers, why not do all three? A Bluetooth typewriter keyboard with a slot for your iPad or tablet! Reviewers also use it for their laptops and entire WFH stations too, and just use the slot as a phone holder. If there was anything that'd motivate you after hours in front of a screen, it'd be this!

28 Things Small Enough To Fit In Your Purse That You'll Definitely Want To Have On Hand This Summer

A Revlon oil-absorbing volcanic face roller that works just like your go-to oil-blotting sheets, but it doesn't create any extra waste! Just roll the mattifying stick all over your T-zone (or anywhere else that gets greasy) and soak up excess oil. A handheld fan if you sweat at just the thought of riding the subway or sitting in the park without any shade. Not only will it cool you off, but it also doubles as a portable phone charger and flashlight when you're in a pinch. A Super Spritz SPF50 Face Mist so you can refresh your sunscreen all day long and not worry about ruining your makeup or having to rub in lotion with germ-y hands. A pair of classic sunnies that look like Ray-Bans but will run you way, way less. 😎 Or a pair of trendy (and durable) acetate frames with polarized lenses — designed to block 99% of reflected light and 100% of UV light — so you can justify spending a little more on them. The Ring Thing — a waterproof jewelry holder you can use when you're getting a manicure, enjoying a day at the beach, or lifting weights at the gym. Simply slip your ring in here, and you won't have to worry about losing it at the bottom of a tote bag or denting/scratching it during any activities. A trio of Touchland sanitizer sprays in de-li-cious scents like wild watermelon, velvet peach, and berry bliss. 🍉🍑🫐 Sometimes a sink is hard to come by, but these are the next best thing. A Birdie personal safety alarm with a LOUD 130-decibel siren and flashing strobe light that'll give you a little peace of mind whether you're out and about with friends, on a hike with your dog, or just running to Target. And if you're wondering how loud 130 decibels is — it's equivalent to a jet take-off and considered the threshold of pain when it comes to what our ears can handle. A collapsible steel straw if you're working on being more sustainable, but absolutely HATE those environmentally friendly paper straws that turn to mush in two seconds flat. A finishing stick that looks like a lil' mascara wand, but it's actually for the hairs on your head! If flyaways are something that bug you, give your hairline a good swipe and watch them be tamed without a fight. A bug bite suction tool because it's this or scratching at it until it bleeds, and that is not the way, my friends. Don't let the lil' suckers get in the way of your backyard bonfires — you've waited months for this!! A Cocokind Mymatcha All-Over Moisture Stick — a versatile lil' product you can use on your lips, under eyes, and dry spots. The hydrating formula is packed with coconut oil, sunflower oil, and vitamin E, which are gentle on your skin barrier, as well as caffeine-rich matcha, which can help relieve puffiness. A cooling body spray made with ingredients you can 100% pronounce! (Pure essential oils, water, and witch hazel.) Spritz it on whenever you're getting clammy, and it'll help ya cool off before you start spraying sweat like you're in a Cathy comic. A dress weight so you can avoid a Marilyn Monroe moment when a gust of wind tries to take your skirt for a spin. I've lived in NYC long enough to have had this experience (damn you giant SoHo grates!) and let me say I desperately wish I had these on hand. Some bestselling Starface Hydro-Stars! They're made with 100% hydrocolloid, which helps absorb icky impurities, and the packaging has a built-in mirror so you can apply them on the go. Some Spot My UV SPF-detecting stickers, which give you a heads up when it's time to reapply sunscreen if that's something you are ~famously~ bad at doing. A magnetic luggage tag you can use to hold your sun hat so you don't forget it at the restaurant after bottomless brunch. A TonyMoly solid perfume stick that looks like a freakin' bunny and won't leak all over your stuff if you throw your bag around like it's indestructible. A set of TikTok-famous storage scrunchies so you can keep your cash money, lip balm, keys, and other small accessories nice and accessible. Ofc, you can also use it to pull your hair up when you're sweating bullets on the subway. A tube of anti-blister balm, because look, those sandals you're wearing are super cute, but the jury is still out on whether or not they'll rub so bad your feet end up looking like raw meat. A benzene-free I Dew Care "Tap Secret" mattifying powder shampoo that eliminates grease at your roots and keeps your scalp nice and healthy with antioxidant-rich black ginseng and nourishing biotin. A set of DEET-free handy mosquito-repelling bracelets you can wear when camping, walking your dog, or attending backyard BBQs. They come in resealable packages so you can even use 'em more than once. A trusty stick of Megababe's Thigh Rescue because enjoying the breeze for a few hours in a pair of shorts or a skirt shouldn't result in a days-long angry red rash. A pack of clinical-strength SweatBlock wipes capable of stopping hyperhidrosis, nervous sweating, and hormonal sweating right in its tracks. If pit stains are your summer enemy, this is their kryptonite. A tiny lil' cleaning ball with a sticky interior that picks up lint, crumbs, dust, sand, and whatever else is floating around in that black hole you call a purse. A set of heel caps so you don't become one with the Earth next time you attend an outdoor wedding or wear the wrong shoes to your friend's backyard brunch. A pack of AirPod-cleaning putty ready to remove a shocking amount of earwax from your earbuds. Turns out they're not dying... they were just struggling to pump your tunes through a thick layer of dead skin cells and sebum. And a smudge-proof, transfer-proof lip stain masque that goes on blue and then peels off to reveal a natural matte shade that lasts for up to 10 hours!
