England's Lionesses find a home from home at Zurich's fairy-tale 'castle'

ZURICH — England's hotel at the Women's European Championship is a 'home from home,' although it is likely a step above the players' normal abodes.
Nestled in the woods on top of a hill overlooking Zurich and flaunting an array of spires and cupolas, the iconic Dolder Grand looks like a castle that has jumped straight out of a book of fairy tales.

Woltemade to rejoin Stuttgart team on July 28 amid Bayern rumours

Germany's Nick Woltemade celebrates his side's second goal of the game during the UEFA European Under-21 Championship semi-final soccer match between Germany and France at Kosice Football Arena. Robert Nemeti/dpa VfB Stuttgart forward Nick Woltemade is to rejoin the team on July 28 ahead of the new season despite rumours of a potential transfer to German champions Bayern Munich. Due to his participation in the Nations League Final Four and in the under-21 Euros this summer, he will receive a few extra vacation days. Advertisement But a club spokesperson confirmed on Monday that he will join his team-mates for their pre-season training camp as planned. Over the weekend, there were speculations whether Bayern could rush to sign Woltemade aftertheir midfielder Jamal Musiala fractured his fibula and dislocated his ankle in the Club World Cup quarter-final against Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday. Musiala will undergo surgery and sidelined for several months. However, according to media reports, Bayern and Suttgart are very far from an agreement over the transfer fee. The German Cup champions allegedly want a huge fee, with some reports speaking of close to €100 million ($117.33 million), to get him out of his contract until 2028. Advertisement Stuttgart kicked off their pre-season preparations with performance tests on Monday. In addition to Woltemade, his national team colleagues Deniz Undav, Maximilian Mittelstädt and Alexander Nübel as well as Bosnian international Ermedin Demirovic were also absent. Unlike Woltemade, the quartet will rejoin the team for a friendly match against SV Fellbach on Saturday.

Dorset beach likened to 'laid-back Los Angeles hotspot' among UK's best for 2025

A Dorset beach which has been likened to a "laid-back Los Angeles hotspot" has been named as one of the UK's best beaches for 2025. Southbourne beach again featured on the list from The Times, after having been rated as the best in the south of England in last year's article. It lost out on that particular accolade to Milford-on-Sea for 2025, but is still considered among the best the UK has to offer. Chief travel writer for The Times, Chris Haslam, visited 756 beaches and 51 resorts to come to his conclusions. Discussing his list, Haslam said: "The truth remains, though, that our coast is still the most beautiful and most varied on earth, and there's much to discover beyond the most obvious spots. "So pack a picnic and the factor 50 and make 2025 the summer of the beach that's a little harder to reach." The full list of the UK's best beaches for 2025 can be found on The Times website here. Southbourne was likened to Los Angeles by Haslam in his write-up, with the features outside of the sands and waters being highlighted. He said: "First featured in Best UK Beaches 2024, SoBo, as the cool kids call it, is in a residential area in Bournemouth's east end. "Here, the local restaurateur Rich Slater has transformed a neglected stretch of sand into something reminiscent of the laid-back Los Angeles hotspot, Hermosa Beach. "Sadly the nimbys didn't like the café in the double-decker bus, the art classes, fundraising and yoga sessions, although Slater's licence has been extended until autumn next year. "The plan now is to win over the doubters by improving the adjacent lavatories — and installing a sauna." Southbourne is a Blue Flag award-winning beach with colourful beach huts, and has the Fisherman's Walk nature trail in the cliffs above it. Visit Dorset adds: "It is a narrow strip of woodland with a nature trail and plenty of wildlife. The zig zag path leads all the way down to the beach." Southbourne wasn't the only Dorset beach to feature on the list as Hive Beach in the western part of the county was also included. Southbourne beach has been well-received by visitors, earning a 4.7/5 score on Tripadvisor from 254 reviews. One person said: "Amazing stretch of sandy beach from Hengisbury Head to Bournemouth. "Very clean. Great for a walk, picnic or swim. Probably less crowded than Bournemouth beach in peak season." Another shared: "Lovely clean and looked after beach, lots along the strip with pubs, food outlets and local cuisine eateries." Will highly recommend this place." Another commented: "Simply love this beach, was introduced to the SoBo community and from Southbourne high street to the beach I cannot fault it, such a lovely place to be and thankfully not that full of tourists like myself. "Beautiful beaches, great local shops and always goes down well with the British summer!"

Everton closing in on loan for England's Robinson

Everton are closing in on an agreement to sign England winger Katie Robinson on loan from Aston Villa this summer, with an option to buy clause. The deal is not yet finalised but all parties are confident of an agreement with Robinson planning to carry out a medical at Everton on Wednesday. Advertisement Robinson joined Villa on a free transfer from Brighton in 2024 and has a year remaining on her current contract. The 22-year-old was the youngest member of Sarina Wiegman's Lionesses squad that reached the Women's World Cup final in 2023. She made 16 appearances in all competitions for Villa last season but only started five matches under new manager Natalia Arroyo between January and May. Robinson impressed during her time at Brighton and is considered a young forward with high potential. Everton manager Brian Sorensen has worked with young English talent before, enjoying success with Chelsea's Aggie Beever-Jones and Manchester City's Jess Park in loan spells at the club.
