'He's a competitor, clearly,' McLain said.
So when Burns takes the mound Tuesday, June 24 for his major-league debut and stares down the barrel of Aaron Judge's bat in the first inning of a start against the New York Yankees, the advice from his new big-league teammates is pretty simple:
Lean into the fight. And enjoy.
'He pitches with a lot of emotion already anyway,' Pagán said. 'He always pitches kind of toeing that red line, so don't change that. Instead of trying to tone it down and trying to maybe be something you're not, just be you. And just remind him to have fun.'

Burns has roared through three levels of the minors this season, dominating at each stop with a powerful fastball, two excellent breaking pitches and competitive fire on the mound that looks at times like another gear.

'That's usually when you get the most out of guys that are like that,' McLain said, 'and enjoy that environment.'
Chase Burns, throwing batting practice in February during his first big-league spring training, is scheduled to make his major league debut against the New York Yankees on Tuesday, June 24 at Great American Ball Park.
Much like Rhett Lowder, who went from being drafted seventh overall to the big leagues last year in 13 months, Burns was in big-league camp this year in his first pro season, throwing his first professional pitch in his lone inning of work in the Cactus League before heading to minor-league camp to start working on the path that led to Tuesday.

'I caught him in spring, and his stuff is legit,' catcher Tyler Stephenson said. 'I'm excited to see what he can do.
'He's got to trust himself that he deserves to be here.'
Thirteen starts this year at three levels showed that much as Burns, 22, went 7-3 with a 1.77 ERA and 89 strikeouts in 66 innings. He walked just 13 batters, including just four in eight starts during his stretch at Double-A Chattanooga.
'Obviously, he hasn't done it at the big-league level,' Pagán said, 'but what he's shown up to this point in college and coming through the minor leagues, nothing's really fazed him to this point.

'Spending time with him during the Reds Caravan he seemed like an awesome kid, super sure of himself, pretty dialed in on his process and how he goes about his business,' Pagán added. 'All those things are important to leading to success in this league. You put all that together with the stuff he has physically, his natural ability, and it's exciting.'
Veterans in the clubhouse say they were impressed with the way Burns handled himself in camp, professionally, with purpose.
Like Rhett Lowder, center, Chase Burns was in major league spring training after being drafted the previous June. Burns will make his MLB debut after only 13 starts in the minor leagues.
'What he does is more than enough,' said McLain, who made his own successful debut just two years ago and expects to talk with Burns before Tuesday's start. 'He doesn't need to be anyone other than himself.'

Veteran pitcher Brady Singer's advice for Baseball America's eighth-ranked prospect in the game as he faces a Yankees team that leads the American League in scoring and home runs: 'Trust your stuff.'
'He's very lucky to have some of the best stuff I've ever seen from a young pitcher,' Singer said. 'So trust yourself in the zone. You don't need to be as perfect as you think you might need to be. Try to treat it like another game that you're pitching, try to not do too much. Calm down and collect yourself and just go to work.'
Easier said than done for any player making his debut, especially in that first inning when butterflies and adrenaline rushes are all but inevitable.
'He's worked his whole life to get here,' Pagán said. 'And there's no need to put any added whatever by trying to be something you're not. Just go be Chase Burns. That's been good enough this whole time.'

2025 has been an unprecedented offseason for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Pittsburgh took a hyper-aggressive approach to roster building, including some huge free-agent additions and two blockbuster trades. Broderick Jones has moved to left tackle after taking a step back in his second season and new right tackle Troy Fautanu is coming off of a serious knee injury and is a completely unknown. It's been almost impossible to escape the Coldplay "kiss cam" incident this week. The viral moment has made global headlines, and social media has been flooded with memes. The sports world has also joined in, with parodies from MLB mascots and SportsCenter hosts. If ever there is evidence a moment is iconic, it's when goofy sports mascots recreate it. Rep. Jim Jordan to be questioned under oath on Strauss sex abuse scandal

Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) will answer questions under oath in relation to the Richard Strauss sex abuse scandal at Ohio State University, sources have told NBC4. After years of appeals, depositions are underway in the sexual abuse scandal involving Strauss, a former Ohio State University doctor. It has been seven years since the first lawsuits were filed against the university. Jordan is set to be deposed on Friday in Washington. Former Ohio State Athletic Director Andy Geiger was deposed on Wednesday in Los Angeles. Columbus says village's speed cameras are straining city's resources Jordan and Geiger are being questioned as part of civil lawsuits against the university. Neither have been charged with any crimes, but many have questioned what they knew about Strauss' behavior. In a statement, a spokesperson for Jordan repeated earlier denials. 'As everyone knows, Chairman Jordan never saw or heard of any abuse, and if he had, he would have dealt with it,' the spokesperson said. Sources told NBC4's Colleen Marshall that Geiger testified for at least seven hours. Attorneys for Ohio State University have also questioned some of the survivors, whose Title IX claims accuse the university of knowing what Strauss was doing, facilitating it, and concealing it. Survivors have shared their anguished stories as they described being sexually abused, even being drugged and raped by Strauss. But they also shared their anger as they learned the Strauss assaults lasted for nearly 20 years, and they said university leaders, even their own coaches, knew. At least four former wrestlers and one referee are on record saying they complained about Strauss to Jordan, a then-assistant wrestling coach. HBO recently released a documentary about the scandal. Marshall was interviewed for the documentary after reporting on the scandal for many years. Ohio State was not involved in making the documentary. The survivors of Strauss kept quiet for decades, internalizing their trauma, but back in 2018, they started talking. Hundreds of the survivors of the 20-year-long string of sexual assaults by the Ohio State team doctor still have cases against the university pending in federal court. In a previous statement to NBC4, an Ohio State University spokesperson said: Ohio State led the effort to investigate and expose Richard Strauss, and we express our deep regret and apologies to all who experienced Strauss' abuse. The university is forever grateful to the survivors who participated in the independent investigation, which could not have been completed without their strength and courage. Since 2018, we have reached settlement agreements with more than half of the plaintiffs, 296 survivors, for more than $60 million. All male students who filed lawsuits have been offered the opportunity to settle. In addition, the university continues to cover the cost of professionally certified counseling services and other medical treatment, including reimbursement for counseling and treatment received in the past.
