Footy great launches blistering attack on former teammate who called him a coward and got VERY personal: 'Don't ever mention my son's name again'
At the time, a fired-up Hoffman defended his close friend - Queensland coach Billy Slater - after Woods labelled the decorated fullback a 'grub ' on Triple M radio.
Ex-Melbourne Storm forward Hoffman claimed Woods asked Slater to take a photo with his son Buster earlier this year in Brisbane during Magic Round - before suggesting the prop turned media identity then slammed the Origin coach on air to create an aggressive narrative.
Speaking on the Kenty podcast recently, Woods offered his version of events.
'Ryan Hoffman came out and called me a coward, and then he backflipped and said he didn't,' Woods said.
'We had a conversation. I said, "Look, you can call me whatever you want, just don't ever mention my son's name again with things that didn't happen", because Buster didn't get a photo with Billy.'

Woods then recalled what actually unfolded with Slater.
'We were up at the top boxes of Suncorp Stadium (during Magic Round), I was going to take my little fella downstairs, Buster, because he was going to be a ball boy for the three o'clock game on the Saturday arvo, which was Newcastle versus Souths,' he added.
'As I was going down the lift, we were right at the back, everyone jumped in, then we get down to I think level 3, that's where the Channel 9 and Fox (Sports) boxes are.
'Billy Slater rocks in with his producer from Channel 9. We go downstairs, everyone gets out, Billy's there at the front, I literally walk out, I walk past, I shake his hand, 'hey Bill', I say to Buster to shake his hand.
'Once he shakes his hand we walk away, Buster goes 'who's that Dad?'
'I go 'mate, he's one of the best fullbacks to ever play the game'. My young bloke is only five. And that is all that happened.
'So from that, there's only three people that would've said something to Gordy (Tallis) about that. So someone's dropped the lip and had a little complaint, wasn't too happy.'
It followed NRL 360 panel member Gorden Tallis also taking aim at Woods for labelling Slater a grub ahead of game two at Optus Stadium.
An emotional Slater responded by suggesting Woods was perhaps unaware of the mental health concerns his words could have on people, before referencing late Maroons coach Paul Green, who suffered from CTE.
Slater later retracted his comments and rang Green's wife Amanda to apologise.

Former NRL TV presenter Tiffany Salmond has accused Fox Sports of leaking false stories about her - including one claiming she gatecrashed a work party the pay TV giant held last year. Salmond has been vocal about her inability to find TV work since being dumped from her role reporting on New Zealand NRL games for Fox Sports, RNZ and Sky. She recently claimed she's been unsuccessful in her job search partly because rugby league TV journalism is a 'boys' club' in which 'the men are allowed to be edgy, loud, have huge personalities and take up space but women have to toe the line of being attractive, but not too sexy'. On Thursday, Salmond took to Instagram to air her allegations against Fox. 'I've now been told Fox are allegedly trying to leak false stories to journalists about me,' she wrote. 'Apparently one of the stories they're pushing is that I gatecrashed a work party they held at a hotel last year. The former footy sideline eye claims one of the alleged stories is about her gatecrashing Fox's end-of-year work party in 2024 'Even though I'd already booked to stay at that hotel two months earlier - well before they'd even picked the venue. 'Imagine thinking I booked a literal hotel just to gatecrash an end of year work party for two free glasses of champagne. 'If anything, I wish I hadn't bumped into them in the lobby either.' Salmond has also recently spoken out about the scandal over her late-night phone call to Fox Sports reporter Jake Duke, who was dumped by his Channel Seven star girlfriend Grace Fitzgibbon when the Daily Mail exclusively broke the story. A source close to the couple told Daily Mail Australia the call came to Duke, 30, 'in the wee hours', prompting a 'devastated and heartbroken' Fitzgibbon, 32, to end the three-year-long relationship and leave the couple's apartment in Freshwater, on Sydney's northern beaches. 'The phone call situation that was reported wasn't the reason I was removed. But once I started gaining visibility and attention, it felt like that moment became an easy narrative to use against me – despite senior staff being completely unfazed by it when it happened,' Salmond told the Sydney Morning Herald. 'I want to make it very clear: it was an innocent phone call I made all the way from New Zealand, to a colleague I considered a friend. Head coach Andy Farrell has opted to retain the vast majority of those players who started at the Melbourne Cricket Ground last Saturday, as the British and Irish tourists edged out the Wallabies 29-26 to win the series with one match to go. There was speculation that Farrell may choose to freshen-up his side or offer chances to other players who have had limited roles in the Tests, but instead he has put his faith in most of the same men to go again, in the quest for a 3-0 whitewash. That was always the ambition for this 2025 crusade; for the Lions to earn a series clean sweep and to win every match they played Down Under. Now that they are within reach of that objective, Farrell has shown his laser focus on completing the quest by demonstrating utter ruthlessness as a selector. He has not been swayed by sentiment; this is a statement that the Lions are back in business mode – after their protracted celebrations – and are going for the jugular. Just two starting changes is a very modest reshuffle in the circumstances. Kinghorn plays full-back for Scotland but he has been picked on the left wing for this game, having often operated there for Toulouse. He is a supreme asset as a runner, commanding aerial presence, kicker and distributor, and after a glittering cameo last weekend he is deservedly included at the expense of James Lowe, who has been a shadow of his normal self on this trip. Chessum is among the replacements this time but instead of an outside back filling the void left by Kinghorn's elevation, Farrell has opted for a six-two bench split. Ben Earl will act as additional back-row cover but also has the ability, at a push, to be deployed in midfield, in an emergency.
