The job increase exceeded forecasts, with 8,000 additional jobs created compared to May, based on the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), as reported by The Guardian. The rate of unemployment also decreased slightly, dropping to 4.1% from 4.2%, as per the report.

While, economists have also warned that the US labor market has just been slower to show sensitivity to the tariffs, even though the tariffs and trade disputes have shaken the stock market, which plummeted in the spring but has now bounced back, as per The Guardian report.

Private Sector Weakness Emerges
According to a Reuters report, the private payrolls rose by 74,000 jobs, but it was the lowest increase since October of 2024. Healthcare employed an additional 39,000 people, which was spread across hospitals, nursing and residential care facilities, as per the report. Even social assistance jobs rose by 19,000, as reported by Reuters.
While the manufacturing sector lost 7,000 jobs, wholesale trade lost 6,600 positions, and even professional and business services payrolls decreased 7,000 jobs, as reported by Reuters. Though retailers added a paltry 2,400 jobs, reported Reuters.
Participation Rate Drops to 62.3%
Even though the jobless rates fell in June, it was mainly because of a decrease in those working or looking for jobs as the labor force participation rate declined to 62.3%, which is the lowest level since late 2022, according to CNBC.
Concerns About the Second Half of 2025
According to Reuters, many economists have predicted that the jobless rate will increase through the second half of this year, and potentially encourage the Fed to resume its monetary policy easing cycle in September.
Chief economist at Raymond James, Eugenio Aleman, pointed out that, "Although the overall number of jobs was very strong, the weakness was broad-based across the private sector," adding, "The labor market continued to weaken in June, which is in line with our view and should reignite the conversation regarding the Federal Reserve's interest rate path," as quoted by Reuters.

After 'good' trials, roads min junks L1 bidding mode

NEW DELHI: In a major policy change, all highway agencies under the road transport ministry, including the NHAI, will soon replace the least cost (L1) mode for bidding out works for preparing detailed project reports (DPRs) with highest technical score (T1) for companies. The agencies will fix cost for consultancy service (bid price) and companies will be selected on the basis of their technical competence and ratings based on their past performance. Officials said the experiment of only fixed cost and highest technical score for bidding out works in the NHAI has been "good" so far, since its introduction in Sept last year. TOI on Sept 8 had first reported this crucial change in bidding parameters. "The new provision of rating of bidders and assigning 30% marks for technical score will further bring quality players to bid for projects," said a senior official. The policy change gains importance considering that there has been major deterioration in preparation of project reports after consultancy firms bagged projects quoting very low and unsustainable prices. Poor project preparation impacts quality of work and results in delay in implementation. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 2025 Top Trending local enterprise accounting software [Click Here] Esseps Learn More Undo In developed countries such as Japan and Australia, govt entities pay more attention and time to preparation for DPRs for perfect execution. Officials admitted that there have been several cases where the prices quoted for preparing DPRs was as low as Rs 70,000-Rs 80,000 per km. "At such a low cost, no one can prepare a good DPR. Field surveys cost more than such quoted price. That was the trigger for fixing the cost, which approximately comes to Rs 4-5 lakh for one km of 4-6 lane highway. This is barely 0.5% of the overall project cost. In most other countries the payment made for DPR preparation is around 10% of project cost," an official said. He added that provisions have been made where companies that have key personnel from top 50 reputed technical institutes, such as IITs and NITs, will get a better score. "So, the entire framework of technical score, including the marks for ratings, is aimed at getting serious and quality players to bid for DRP works,"an NHAI official said.

Focus will be on people-friendly policing, crime control, cyber security, says DGP

1 2 3 4 Jaipur: Ending weeks of speculation and interim leadership in state police, the Rajasthan govt Thursday appointed senior IPS officer Rajeev Kumar Sharma as the new Director General of Police (DGP). The 1990-batch officer of Rajasthan cadre assumed charge in the evening and was accorded a ceremonial guard of honour at the police headquarters here. Sharma's appointment follows his premature repatriation from central deputation, where he served as the Director General of Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPRD) in New Delhi. His return fills the leadership void created after former DGP UR Sahoo was appointed Rajasthan Public Service Commission chairperson on June 10 and the brief interim charge of the state police force held by DG (ACB) Ravi Prakash Meharda, who retired on June 30. In a formal order, the Department of Personnel announced that Sharma will serve as the head of state police for a period of two years, irrespective of his age of superannuation or until further orders, whichever is earlier. He has also been placed in the apex pay scale (Level 17) with a fixed monthly salary of Rs 2.25 lakh. Speaking the media shortly after taking charge, Sharma expressed gratitude to the state leadership, saying, "I thank the Chief Minister and the state govt for the trust they have placed in me." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trending in in 2025: Local network access control [Click Here] Esseps Learn More Undo Emphasising his commitment to public service, he said, "I will fulfil this opportunity to serve the people with utmost dedication and sincerity." Outlining his priorities, Sharma said the focus will remain on crime control, improved behaviour of police personnel and people-friendly police stations. He also stressed the importance of modern policing and tackling new-age crimes. "There will be effective efforts to control the growing menace of cybercrime," he said. He added, "We will strive to make Rajasthan a model state in the country in terms of policing." Sharma brings with him a diverse career spanning over three decades. He previously served as DG ACB, Director of Rajasthan Police Academy and DG State Disaster Relief Force. His experience at the field level includes postings as SP in Jodhpur, Jhalawar, Dausa, Rajsamand, Bharatpur and Jaipur North. He also served CBI at Jaipur and Delhi and handled Jaipur's traffic division. Originally from Mathura, Sharma holds MA and MPhil degrees. His first posting was in 1992 as Assistant SP in Jodhpur City. He was promoted to DIG in 2006 and later served in Crime Branch at the police headquarters. For his distinguished service, he was awarded the Police Medal in 2006 and the President's Police Medal in 2014.
