MPs to call upon individuals involved in allocating Hajj quota to private operators
The Sub-Committee of Senate Standing Committee on Religious Affairs and Inter-Faith Harmony which met here on Friday under the chairmanship of Senator Aon Abbas Buppi also directed the Ministry of Religious Affairs to provide all the correspondence that took place in the ministry since August 2024.
The meeting discussed the matters pertaining to reduction of the private Hajj quota and examining the procedure followed in awarding the tender of Mashaer Services to M/s Al-Rajhi.
The meeting was attended by Senator Bushra Anjum Butt, Danesh Kumar and secretary for Ministry of Religious Affairs.
Senator Buppi, while convening the meeting, finalise the TORs for the sub-committee focuses on the reasons that restricts 67,000 Hujjaj from performing Hajj.
The sub-committee will investigate the factors involved in blocking the IDs and how 50 million Riyals belonging to private Hajj operators have been transferred to DG Hajj Accounts.
Senator Buppi inquired that creating cluster of Munazim, merging them from 900 Munazim to 41, and how the ministry has taken such task which originally fell under the umbrella of HOPE.
The sub-committee also directed the ministry to provide a copy of minutes of the committee constituted to award the tender of Mashaer Services to Al-Rajhi. Senator Buppi also directed to provide copy of letter written by ex-federal minister, disagreeing with the process, along with the dissenting notes of other four members of the committee.
The sub-committee also finalised the timeline for the disposal of the matter, stating that the sub-committee will commence the process once the Hajj process is completed.

Briefing Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif about the devastation caused by the torrential rains in different parts of the country, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Chairman Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik said more than 1,600 homes have been completely destroyed, and 376 livestock lost due to the severe weather. Earlier, the prime minister reaffirmed the support of the federal government to ensure relief and recovery in the monsoon devastation affected regions of Gilgit Baltistan (GB) and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). The prime minister chaired a high-level review meeting to assess the human and material losses caused by the ongoing monsoon season, particularly in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). The session focused on immediate relief efforts, future preparedness, and federal support to the affected regions, a Prime Minister's Office news release said. In his remarks, Prime Minister Shehbaz expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of lives and extensive damage inflicted by torrential rains across the country, especially in GB and AJK. He reiterated the federal government's unwavering solidarity with the regional governments and the affected people. "The federal government stands shoulder to shoulder with the administrations and citizens of Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir in this hour of grief," the prime minister stated. "I will soon visit Gilgit-Baltistan to express solidarity with the victims, and a comprehensive federal relief package will be announced to support recovery and rehabilitation efforts," he added. The prime minister issued special directives to all federal agencies to collaborate closely with regional authorities to conduct damage assessments and expedite relief measures. He stressed the need to prioritize life-saving interventions and safeguard both human lives and property. Highlighting the need for better disaster preparedness, the prime minister ordered an urgent overhaul of the early warning system run by the Pakistan Meteorological Department to make it more proactive and effective. He also directed the concerned departments to restore and repair road networks and communication infrastructure on an emergency basis to ensure timely aid delivery and mobility in affected areas. The prime minister emphasized a coordinated and rapid response to minimize further damage and ensure that those affected receive timely assistance and rehabilitation. KSE-100 Index Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday expressed satisfaction over the landmark rise of the Pakistan Stock Exchange's KSE-100 Index, which surged past the 140,000-point level for the first time in history. Calling it a "positive reflection of investor confidence," the prime minister said the bullish trend in the stock market indicates growing trust in the government's economic policies. "The upward momentum in the stock exchange is a strong endorsement of our economic direction," he said in a statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office. Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed that facilitating business and investment remains a top priority for his administration.

CJCSC holds high-level meetings with top Egyptian leadership
ISLAMABAD: Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, held a series of high-level meetings with top Egyptian leadership during his official visit to Egypt for the 3rd round of Defence and Security Talks. General Mirza called on Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Defence Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Egyptian Armed Forces General Abdel Mageed Saqr, Admiral Osama Mounier Mohamed Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, and Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Professor Dr Ahmed El-Tayeb. Discussions centered on enhancing bilateral military cooperation, counter-terrorism, regional security, and defence collaboration. Both sides expressed their commitment to deepening military-to-military ties through joint training programs, exercises, and strategic partnerships. During his meeting with the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, General Mirza emphasised the role of interfaith harmony and religious understanding in countering extremism and fostering global peace. PM explains Pakistan's anti-terror plan
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to eradicating terrorism, citing the country's internationally recognised counterterrorism strategy and urging stronger coordination across government agencies. Chairing a high-level meeting of the Steering Committee on Counter-Terrorism and Establishment of State Authority – referred to as the 'Harden the State' initiative – Sharif was joined by Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, senior military officials, and federal and provincial ministers. The meeting focused on strengthening national institutions and addressing threats posed by extremist groups labelled by the government as 'Fitna-al-Hindustan and Fitna-al-Khawarij'. These terms, part of a broader psychological and semantic campaign, are used to delegitimise insurgent and terrorist actors. 'Our resolve to root out terrorism remains unshaken,' Sharif said, according to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office. 'The world recognises Pakistan's successful operations against terrorist elements, and we shall continue to build on this momentum.' The government's strategy, described as 'comprehensive, effective and workable,' includes a blend of military action, legislative reform, and public engagement aimed at dismantling extremist networks. 'Only a terror-free, peaceful, and strong state structure can restore international investor confidence,' Sharif said. He linked recent security gains to economic reforms, pointing to increased digitisation, tax system improvements, a record surge in the Pakistan Stock Exchange, and improved global credit ratings as indicators of renewed investor trust.
