Virgil Abloh Archive and Nike to launch Paris exhibition
Dubbed 'Virgil Abloh: The Codes', the exhibit opens on what would have been Abloh's 45th birthday, on September 30, and runs through October 10 at the Grand Palais in Paris.
Drawing from the designer's vast 20,000-object archive, The Codes will present hundreds of pieces, including prototypes, garments, footwear, sketches, photographs, and personal items.
Curated by Chloe Sultan and Mahfuz Sultan, the show builds on the 2022 Virgil Abloh: The Codes exhibition and expands it through his work in apparel, footwear, architecture, music, advertising, and more. The exhibition also explores Abloh's collaborations with several artists, designers, and athletes.
'This exhibit is just the beginning of our work to share Virgil's legacy and principles with the creative community and the broader world,' said Shannon Abloh, chief executive officer and managing director of Virgil Abloh Securities, founder and board president of the Virgil Abloh Foundation, president and chair of Virgil Abloh Archive.
'Sharing his personal collection, unfinished projects, and magnum opuses with the public is how we celebrate Virgil's legacy and his commitment to making information accessible and collaborative. Through the Archive, Virgil will live on as a source of inspiration and beacon of creative knowledge.'
In addition to the exhibition, a series of publications and public programs will be held throughout the run, including workshops, performances, screenings, and live dialogues with voices from Abloh's global creative community.
'It's an honor to stage two decades of Virgil's work in Paris. This exhibition at Grand Palais is a homecoming of sorts, a love letter to the city that inspired him most and shaped so much of his practice. Virgil Abloh Archive carries forward V's spirit of generosity by sharing his work, his methods, his 'codes' with anyone who wants to learn from and build on his ideas. This exhibition represents the first chapter,' added Mahfuz Sultan, director of Virgil Abloh Archive.

At the Avignon 'Off' Festival, Taiwanese artists give voice to their island
The departure for Europe was fast approaching, and the artists' excitement was palpable. At the Taiwan Traditional Theatre Center in Taipei, cultural representatives and several European diplomats gathered on Friday, June 20, to give a warm send-off to the dozen Taiwanese performing artists preparing to represent the island at two prestigious European festivals: the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in the United Kingdom, taking place from August 1 to 25, and the Avignon "Off" Festival in southeastern France, running through July 26. They also attended a special preview of the performances. In these three works presented in France, Taiwanese dance and circus performers drew inspiration from traditional forms, natural phenomena, daily observations and interpersonal relationships to stage the complexity and instability of the relationships – both human and geopolitical – that they experience. The first performance, Push and Pull, is a duet choreographed by Lai Hung-chung, founder of the contemporary dance company Hung Dance. In a choreography blending tai chi – a traditional Chinese martial art – with naturalistic contemporary ballet, two dancers, a woman and a man, dressed in simple, earth-toned outfits, confront each other in a series of movements juxtaposing softness and hardness, slowness and speed, explosivity and minimal force. This philosophy of movement is inspired by Taoism, a religion widely practiced in Taiwan. In the background, a continuous rumbling mingles with a looped piano melody shifting in tempo, while a microphone captures and re-broadcasts in real time the sounds produced by the dancers' bodies.

Topshop to launch Cara Delevingne collab, names key French, Danish stores as relaunch stockists
Topshop has been gradually releasing information linked to its full-scale comeback this year and the latest news this week is that two major European names will stock the now-online-only label in their physical stores. Reports said both France's Printemps and Denmark's Magasin du Nord (which used to be owned by Debenhams) will carry the relaunched brand. And in Ireland, department store McElhinneys will also be a stockist. On Tuesday, the retailer's Instagram page also showed a picture of supermodel-turned-actress Cara Delevingne with the words: 'Introducing Cara Delevingne. A bold new era begins. Sign up at to be the first to know about the launch.' That was the first hint of the fact that the brand is in mid-August launching a curated 30-piece edit in a collab with Delevingne in to kick off its high-profile comeback. It's a fitting link-up given her first appearance in a Topshop campaign was in 2010 with the model later being the solo face of the brand's AW14 campaign. Delevingne said: 'As a London girl, Topshop was the place where fashion felt fun, fearless, and full of possibilities. Coming back to Topshop now is more than a return – it's about starting something new. This collection is about owning your style, your story, and feeling empowered to express that every day.' As for the stockist news, it's known that it will be available in other European locations as well as stores beyond the continent but their names haven't yet been revealed, although the brand is already available at Nordstrom in the US through an earlier deal. There's also expected to be a single wholesale partner for the UK that will see the label available in UK physical locations in its home market again. Topshop and sibling brand Topman were part of the failed Arcadia Group and were bought by e-tail giant ASOS post-pandemic in early 2021 when Arcadia was broken up. ASOS took them online-only and later relaunched them. But ASOS's own problems got in the way of a full-on comeback and this year control of the business was acquired by Heartland. The holding company of the family behind Denmark's Bestseller deepened its close links with ASOS (it already has a major stake in the company) buying 75% of Topshop/Topman for £135 million, with ASOS retaining the minority stake and distribution rights. The plan is for a big relaunch of the two labels with teasers building up to this including a one-day London pop-up in May, a gamified teaser campaign and 'coming soon' holding pages for a new webstore. There will also be a major Topshop/Topman runway show for AW25 in London next month.

Danish trade platform CIFF boosts summer offering with Diesel
The Copenhagen International Fashion Fair is gearing up to hold its summer edition from August 5 to 7. It comes as no surprise that DK Company, Noisy May, and Minimum are organising events during the Danish fashion fair but Diesel 's presence should cause quite a stir. The label has been welcomed by CIFF as a special guest and will take over a large space in the Bella Center's D-Hall, located on the outskirts of the Danish capital. For its summer edition this August, CIFF will highlight the flagship brand of Renzo Rosso 's group OTB (Only the Brave), Diesel. This is a positive sign for the trade platform, which has focused on attracting northern European brands and multi-brand retailers in recent seasons following the decline of the Berlin shows. Moreover, G-Star, which is in the midst of a revival, will also be present in CIFF's central hall. For its 65th edition, CIFF will focus on the theme "A walk in the park", exploring a dialogue between the urban and the natural. The trade event will present collections from around 200 brands, including Diesel, as well as labels such as Marimekko, Wood Wood, Clarks Originals, Saucony, Façon Jacmin, Alohas, Bruuns Bazaar, Dr. Denim, La Fée Maraboutée, Mephisto, and Saint James. The Bella Center will also act as the venue for the first Fashion Commerce Summit on August 5, which aims to "look at how brands can successfully bridge the gap between e-commerce and retail".
