What to know about Red Sox on Day 2 of the MLB Draft, list of picks
The Red Sox picked four college players — pitchers Kyson Witherspoon (Oklahoma), Marcus Phllips (Tennessee) and Anthony Eyanson (LSU) as well as Virginia middle infielder Henry Godbout — on Day 1.
Day 2 of the draft is a big one as we go through rounds 4-20. The Red Sox start off with pick No. 118 overall in Round 4 and finish with pick No. 598 overall in Round 20.

ROUND 4 (No. 118): Mason White, SS, Arizona – The junior infielder was named to the All-Big 12 Second Team and was a Second-Team All-American by Perfect Game.
ROUND 5 (No. 148): Christian Foutch, RHP, Arkansas – That's a fourth right-handed pitcher from the SEC for the Red Sox in this draft. Foutch has a monster fastball that is up in the 98-100 MPH range.
ROUND 6 (No. 178): Leighton Finley, RHP, Georgia — Finley is huge (think 6-foot-5, 225 lbs.) and like basically everyone else the Red Sox have drafted this year, has SEC pedigree. His 2025 numbers (4.85 ERA) didn't stand out. Finley wasn't ranked as a highly-touted draft prospect so he's likely a below-slot sign.
ROUND 7 (No. 208): Myles Patton, LHP, Texas A&M — You guessed it: Another SEC arm. This one is of the left-handed variety. Patton spent two years at Long Beach State before transferring to A&M, where he struggled to a 5.26 ERA.
ROUND 8 (No. 238): Dylan Brown, LHP, Old Dominion — Another big pitcher from the college ranks, this time from a smaller school. Brown is 6-foot-5 and 230 lbs. but somewhat surprisingly, not a power guy. He's more crafty than anything, per scouting reports.
ROUND 9 (No. 268): Jacob Mayers, RHP, LSU — A college teammate of fourth-rounder Anthony Eyanson, Mayers can hit 102 mph. The Nicholls transfer helped LSU win a College World Series title this year but was pushed down the depth chart on a talented Tigers team.

Beer and food workers on strike at Fenway for homestand between Dodgers and Red Sox
BOSTON (AP) — Hundreds of Aramark workers at Fenway Park are on strike and planning to stay out for all of a homestand between the Boston Red Sox and the Los Angeles Dodgers starting Friday night. Red Sox rookie infielder Marcelo Mayer goes on 10-day IL with right wrist sprain
Rookie infielder Marcelo Mayer was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right wrist sprain by the Boston Red Sox on Friday. Mayer, 22, sustained the injury in Wednesday's 9-8 win over the Philadelphia Phillies. He drew a two-out walk against Jesús Luzardo in the fifth inning, but hurt his wrist while swinging and missing at a slider during the at-bat. He didn't come out of the game immediately, running the bases and coming around to score on a Romy González grand slam. But Abraham Toro took over at third base in the bottom of the inning. 'I just felt a little tight grab in my wrist when I took a swing in my second at-bat,' Mayer told MassLive's Chris Cotillo afterward. 'I knew I really couldn't do anything after that so I just called it.' A natural shortstop, Mayer has mostly played third base while Alex Bregman was on the IL with a right quad strain. He's also played at second base and made a couple of appearances at shortstop during his 44 games. Mayer was Boston's 2021 first-round pick (No. 4 overall) and was called up on May 25 when Bregman went on the IL. Ranked as the Red Sox's No. 3 prospect before the season by Mayer has struggled with his hitting as a rookie, batting .228/.272/.402 with eight doubles, four home runs and 10 RBI in 136 plate appearances. Infielder David Hamilton was recalled from Triple-A Worcester to take Mayer's spot on the active roster. He was on the major league roster until Bregman was activated from the IL on July 11. Hamilton's best asset is his speed with 15 stolen bases in 18 attempts. He batted .179/.229/.276 in 133 plate appearances before being demoted. Bregman (.290 avg., .899 OPS) will start at third base for the Red Sox on Friday's series opener versus the Los Angeles Dodgers with Ceddanne Rafaela (.270 avg., .780 OPS) playing at second base. Boston is currently third in the AL East at 55-49, 6.5 games behind the Toronto Blue Jays (61-42) and two games behind the second-place New York Yankees (56-46).
