Alec Bohm, Kyle Schwarber homers power Phillies past Cincinnati Reds
That depth of star power can spoil plenty of good pitching, too.
On a day when Bryce Harper went 0-for-4 with four strikeouts against the Cincinnati Reds, Alec Bohm and Kyle Schwarber provided plenty of offense for the Phillies. Bohm took the decisive swing − a two-run homer in the sixth inning to break a 1-1 tie − in Saturday's 5-1 Phillies win over the Reds at Citizens Bank Park before a crowd of 42,045.

Schwarber, who was on-base for Bohm's homer, piled on with a two-run shot of his own in the eighth inning to put the game out of reach.

Bohm's homer came off Reds starter Nick Lodolo, and spoiled one of the finer starts of the Cincinnati pitcher's 2025 campaign.
The 400-foot blast to left-center field cleared the highest stretches of wall in one of the deepest corners of the yard.

Lodolo bent at the waist and stayed down for several seconds after Bohm's go-ahead blast. Through 5 1/3 innings, he'd only allowed three hits, struck out two-time MVP Harper three times and was in control.
"One of the few pitches I didn't execute," Lodolo said. "So, made me pay for it. Just trying to get the ball up. Obviously, didn't get it up."
Lodolo allowed three runs versus the Phillies, and all via the long ball. Edmundo Sosa also homered in the fifth inning to knot the game at one and cancel out Will Benson's go-ahead homer (his 7th) in the top of the fifth.
Nick Lodolo gave the Reds a solid outing in his 18th start of the season Saturday, July 5, allowing only three runs on four hits while striking out eight.
Schwarber, the Middletown native, punctuated the Phillies' victory with a towering, two-run, opposite-field shot (his 27th) to left field in the eighth. That made it 5-1, and the homer came off fellow Greater Cincinnati native, Brent Suter.

"Some of that's that lineup," Reds manager Terry Francona said. "They're pretty good, man. That kid (Schwarber) has a way of being in everything."
Prior to Bohm's blast, a pitching duel had broken out in South Philadelphia between Lodolo, who took the loss (5-6), and Phillies starter Ranger Suarez, who entered the game 6-2 with a 2.08 ERA but didn't factor in the decision for his five innings of work.
Lodolo went six innings in the Reds loss as they dropped to 46-43. The NL East-leading Phillies improved to 52-37.
"I thought (Lodolo's) changeup was probably the best we've seen all year," Francona said. "All their runs were on home runs, and all (Lodolo's) hits were on fastballs that just weren't located, probably, as well as they should have been."
Phillies second base Edmundo Sosa (33) makes a leaping catch for an out on a pop-up off the bat of the Reds' Austin Hays in the first inning Saturday, July 5.
Suarez allowed seven base runners but just the one run. He was then relieved by Jordan Romano (1-3), who earned the win, followed by Tanner Banks, Orion Kerkering and 2024 All-Star Matt Strahm.

The Reds had their chances, but went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position after having gone 6-for-12 in Friday's 9-6 victory.
The teams will decide their three-game series Sunday at Citizens Bank Park (1:35 p.m.) with probable pitchers Chase Burns (0-1, 13.50 ERA) and Phillies ace Zack Wheeler (8-3, 2.27 ERA) scheduled to throw.

Rams' Davante Adams says LeBron James would have been one of the best wide receivers in NFL history
Could LeBron James have thrived in the NFL if he had chosen to take his talents to the gridiron instead of the hardwood? Los Angeles Rams star wide receiver Davante Adams certainly thinks so. "He would have been one of the best receivers, tight ends of all time. No question," Adams said during a recent appearance on the "Dan Patrick Show." Adams cited James' speed as one of the reasons he would succeed in the NFL. "He can fly too. That's the thing. He's one of the fastest NBA players probably of all time," Adams said. "I've never seen somebody cover space on a basketball court. Maybe John Wall? Derrick Rose? Somebody like that, but he's up there with all of them." At six-foot-nine and 250 pounds, James certainly has the size to play tight end or wide receiver in the NFL, as he is bigger than some of the best to ever do it. James previously said his comparison on the football field would have been a combination of Randy Moss and Rob Gronkowski. "Probably like a mix between, you know, (Rob Gronkowski) or Randy Moss a little bit, but he's a lot smaller than me. He runs a lot faster, but he's a lot smaller than me," James said during an appearance on "New Heights" in March. The 21-time NBA All-Star compared his build to Hall of Famer Calvin Johnson, as James said they have "that same stature as far as build." James also brought up Tony Gonzalez, who played college basketball before eventually turning into a tight end and had an illustrious 17-year career in the NFL that ended in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. "Maybe Tony Gonzalez, with his size, and obviously he played basketball as well. I used to love his celebration when he used to dunk on the goal post too," James said. Gonzalez was six-foot-five and 243 pounds, while Johnson was listed as six-foot-five and 237 pounds during his playing career. The Lakers star said he only "seriously" considered joining the NFL in 2011, during the NBA lockout. "It was 2011 when we had the NBA lockout and, you know, I didn't know when we were going to make the deal with the owners and get our league back going. I actually thought about it a little bit back then. I was still young enough, you know, to get out there with y'all, but that's the only time I've actually seriously considered it," James said. Adams would certainly know what makes a good receiver, as the six-time Pro Bowler has been a top wide receiver in the NFL in his 11-year career. In 164 career games, Adams has 957 career catches for 11,844 yards and 103 touchdowns. Last season, across 14 games with the New York Jets and Las Vegas Raiders, Adams had 67 catches for 854 yards and seven touchdowns. Adams signed with the Rams this offseason and gives the team one of the league's best wide receiver duos alongside star Puka Nacua. Yankees designate 2-time batting champion DJ LeMahieu for assignment with about $22M left on deal
NEW YORK — The New York Yankees have designated two-time batting champion DJ LeMahieu for assignment, one day after manager Aaron Boone had said the aging infielder with a diminished defensive range would primarily be used off the bench. The Yankees, who owe LeMahieu about $22 million on the remainder of a six-year deal that ran through the 2026 season, made the announcement before Wednesday night's game against the Seattle Mariners.
