‘Simba's cooling duvet stopped me from overheating at night this summer'

Daily Mirror26-05-2025
The summer heat can make getting a good night's sleep feel impossible, so I put Simba's cooling duvet to the test to see if stopped overheating at night and helped me sleep better
Whilst we gladly welcome the summer heat during the day, when it comes to the nighttime it's safe to say we're all a little less fond of it. Trying to sleep in a warm, stuffy room can be a nightmare and it's no surprise that all that sweating and tossing and turning leaves us feeling a lot less rested the next morning.
If you're anything like me, the idea of sleeping with no covers at all is not an option, as I need something over me to feel comfortable and cosy. So I decided to swap my usual duvet for Simba's Summer Hybrid 4.5 Tog Duvet, which promises to help control your body heat to keep you comfortable all night.
The Summer Hybrid Duvet comes in all sizes from a single to a superking, and now is the perfect time to snap it up thanks to Simba's current sale. A superking is usually priced at £229 but is now £194.65, saving you £35, whilst a double has been slashed by £27 from £179 to £152.15.
Made with a lighter 4.5 tog fill, the duvet is just the right balance of airy whilst still having a little weight to it, which is how I like my duvets to feel. The gentle weight makes them feel luxurious as well as helping me feel more relaxed and settle myself down for the night, whilst the airiness helps it feel more cooling and less smothering in the heat.
The filling is made from Simba's renew bio fibres which have a down-like feel to them which made it feel even more luxurious. I will say the filling and material were slightly noisy and rustled a little, which can take a little getting used to if you're used to other fibre fillings – although if you're already used to a down-filled duvet this probably won't bother you.
The cover of the Summer Hybrid Duvet is also made from cotton which helps with breathability, as well as helping to wick sweat away from your body and improve air circulation. It's also been designed with Simba's Stratos 'cool touch technology ', which helps keep you feeling fresh and cool.
Whilst I wouldn't say it was dramatically cool to the touch, the duvet was a marked improvement on my usual duvet in terms of cooling and breathability. I didn't wake up feeling sweaty or too hot, which had been happening more frequently during the heatwave.
It's also machine washable, which is a huge bonus for me, and it comes with a handy storage bag so you can roll it up and tuck it away when the weather turns cold again. The quilted design also makes sure the filling doesn't shift or get too clumpy.
Elsewhere The Fine Bedding Company also has a big sale on, slashing the price of its Smart Temperature 100% Cooling Cotton Duvet from £120 to £84 for a double. This duvet also has dynamic body temperature-regulating technology, which activates when sensing an increase in body temperature and provides continuous evaporative cooling by wicking moisture away from the body.
Meanwhile at Dunelm you can also save 20% on the Fogarty Temperature Regulating Wool All Seasons Duvet, which comes with a 4.6 star rating from shoppers. It's made with a 100% New Zealand wool filling that makes it suitable for all seasons, helping keep you warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

My new Next drinks trolley looks like a £700 Soho Home model and gets so many compliments

If you're looking for a way to elevate your living room, this gold drinks trolley from Next is set to be your new signature piece, says our head of shopping There are certain pieces that just make a room feel finished. A well-placed lamp, a textured rug, a velvet armchair you'll never actually sit in, and now, I'd firmly place this gold drinks trolley from Next on that list. Since rolling it into my living space, it's become not just a place to perch a few bottles, but a talking point in its own right. It also looks so chic, I had one friend assume it was Soho Home. I didn't notice it at first but now I can definitely see it. The design echoes the same vintage-luxe aesthetic as Soho Home's brass drinks trolley, right down to the circular silhouette and glam glass shelves. But while the Soho Home model will set you back £699, the Next version comes in at £90. It's one of the most convincing high-street homeware alternatives I've seen in a long time. I love the Next piece because it actually looks luxe in person. The gold finish has a subtle warmth to it, not too yellow, not too shiny, and the structure is surprisingly solid. I've styled mine with a few of my best glassware pieces, some wine bottles and some disco balls (of course). Who knew a homeware item could make a girl so happy whenever she looks at it? It's easy to overlook how much impact a smaller furniture piece can have, especially one that technically serves a single purpose. But there's something about a drinks trolley, especially one as stylish as this, that just feels like you've got your life together. Even if the only thing on it is a bottle of prosecco and a candle you haven't lit. This isn't a 'save up to buy' Soho Home piece, and I can't say the quality is comparable between the two, but I do know that I've got a luxe designer look for £609 less. A win is a win. Elsewhere, in luxe-for-less homeware finds, I desperately searched for weeks to find a 'cloud' bedframe, but was left disappointed when the only one I could come across in my budget needed shipping from the US. Instead, I turned to Simba for a plush frame with free delivery and a luxury look. The model I went for? The Hoxton Bed – a beautifully designed frame with a padded headboard to rival a trending 'cloud' frame, lots of customisable options and the promise of easy, fuss-free setup.

Is a Simba bed worth the price? Our head of shopping gives her verdict on quality and delivery

Mirror's head of shopping shares her thoughts on a trending Simba bed frame, including how the delivery went and how easy it was to assemble These days, buying a bed isn't as simple as wandering into a showroom and pointing at the one that looks comfiest. With endless options online, styles that range from ultra-minimalist to extravagant, and delivery logistics that make you question your life choices, the process can feel more stressful than it's worth. These are also the exact reasons why I've kept hold of my old double bed for far longer than I should– especially now that I share it with a 6ft5 tall boyfriend who, most definitely, doesn't fit in it. But one name that kept popping up in my search was Simba. Best known for their high-tech hybrid mattresses, they've built a solid reputation for designing premium-looking sleep solutions ranging from mattresses to pillows and bed frames. And it was these bed frames that really caught my interest. By way of a quick overview before I share my order experience, their beds are made in the UK using FSC-certified wood, available in dozens of customizable and very on-trend finishes, and come with perks like whopping 10-year guarantees, free delivery and a 200-night trial. I'd already been sleeping on a Simba mattress (and loving it), so when I saw they also made proper upholstered bed frames – with clean and modern styling, and a delivery promise that didn't involve a headache – I decided to upgrade my old bed before I ended up having to downgrade to a smaller boyfriend. The model I went for? The Hoxton Bed – a beautifully designed frame with a padded headboard to rival a trending 'cloud' frame, lots of customisable options and the promise of easy, fuss-free setup. Here's how it all went... Customising the bed The Hoxton isn't a one-size-fits-all bed frame. There are six different base designs to choose from (including smart under-bed storage drawers, which come fully pre-assembled), and you can opt for a sleek, modern silhouette with or without a headboard. I chose the version with headboard for a more finished, hotel-style look – and it didn't disappoint. The tall, padded headboard has a minimalist design that still feels soft and welcoming, perfect for propping up a pillow and reading before bed. Then there's the colour and fabric selection – and this is where Simba really sets themselves apart. The bed is available in a huge range of 34 different colours and textures, from subtle neutrals to bold statement shades. I picked Oyster White in a matte weave fabric to match my other furnishings, but there are fabrics ranging from plush velvet to crisp linen and snug chenille. Basically, the selection process feels a bit like you're designing a room on The Sims – it was a lot of fun. Prices do range depending on the fabric you pick, but my king side bed frame was from £799 for the velvet and matte weave textures. The delivery process One of my biggest worries with buying a new bed was the delivery. Would it fit up the stairs? Would it come in 100 pieces and require a full toolkit? Happily, Simba has already thought all that through. The Hoxton arrives mostly pre-assembled, including the drawers if you've opted for a storage version. It's delivered in just two or three boxes, depending on the size you've ordered. The largest single piece – the base – maxes out at around 33cm high, 90cm wide and 200cm long, so it's long but slim enough to navigate through doorways and hallways. Everything was clearly labelled and well-packaged. The fixings are simple connector fittings – no complex construction or power tools required. I would love to say I put it together myself, but in honesty, I watched my boyfriend do it. But I wouldn't say he has too much in the way of DIY skill (though he'd argue that, of course), and he found it simple enough. The only slight issue we had was locating the pre-made holes for the headboard to connect to. For this reason, I'd suggest attaching the headboard before you push it all the way back to the wall. Even better, if you'd rather put your feet up, Simba also offers a specialist delivery and installation service for a small additional fee. They'll assemble the whole thing and even remove your old bed. I didn't go for that this time, as I'm selling my old bed, but it's a great option if you're short on time or patience. What it's like to sleep on Once built, the Hoxton Bed instantly elevated the whole room. It feels solid and sturdy – no creaking, no shifting – and the soft, upholstered finish gives it that premium boutique-hotel feel. I paired it with my existing Simba Hybrid mattress, and the combination has made bedtime feel like an actual treat. It's also worth noting the little thoughtful design touches – like the clean lines, quality finishes, and soft-close drawers (if you opt for storage). Everything just works, and looks good doing it. For these reasons, I think it completely justifies the price, considering there are much pricier frames out there that don't offer seamless delivery, assembly and storage solutions. Would I recommend it? Absolutely. In fact, my best friend is already scrolling through the fabric options for her own bedroom redesign. I would say it's worth paying decent money for a good quality bed, just because of how often it's used and how long for, but if your budget doesn't stretch to Simba, I have found some alternatives that give trendy designs for a smaller price. I also looked at Dusk's Madison Ottoman Storage Bed, from £359, which also looks very aesthetic. And Wayfair's Hucksley Upholstered Bed Frame, from £265.99, looks like a plushy dream.

Every Charm On Princess Charlotte's Pandora Bracelet Decoded

While the Wimbledon final brought in its usual wave of A-listers and royals, it was Princess Charlotte who delivered one of the weekend's most unexpected style moments. Sitting Centre courtside with her brother Prince George, the Prince and Princess of Wales, the ten-year-old royal wore a white dress with navy details, hair tied up neatly in a bow, and - look closely - a silver Pandora bracelet that's loaded with detail. Zoom in (we did), and you'll spot three tiny charms, each more meaningful than the last. First up: a green birthstone charm, which lines up with Charlotte's birthday in May. Whether she picked it herself or was gifted it, it's a personal touch that keeps things grounded. Next is a simple silver heart, which appears to be engraved. You can't make out the message from the photos, but it's the kind of thing you'd expect to be gifted by a parent or sibling - something with just enough mystery to make it feel special. Then there's the standout: a rose gold charm shaped like a lion cub, part of Pandora's Lion King-inspired range. It adds a playful edge to the stack and feels age appropriate without being too twee. Also, it's hard not to read into the symbolism - young royal, lion cub… you get the picture. All together, it's a subtle but telling style move. No heirloom tiaras or extravagant diamonds - just a well-chosen charm bracelet that feels personal, wearable, and totally accessible. In fact, every piece is still available to buy, which means one thing: Princess Charlotte may have just started a new jewellery trend. 1. Pandora, Barrel Clasp Snake Chain Bracelet Sterling silver This classic silver snake chain bracelet forms the base of Charlotte's stack. It features a secure barrel clasp for everyday wear. 2. Pandora May Gemstone A delicate stone in a vivid green hue, symbolising the month of May, Charlotte's birth month. 3. Pandora Engravable Heart Tag Dangle Charm Sterling silver Charlotte's bracelet includes a classic silver heart, engraved with what looks like a personal message or symbol. While the exact engraving isn't visible, its likely something sentimental. 4. Disney The Lion King Nala Charm 14k Rose Gold Plating A rose gold-plated charm featuring a miniature Simba, this piece is part of Pandora's official Disney x Pandora collaboration. Whimsical yet elegant, it's a playful nod to possibly Charlotte's own position. Renee Washington , Grazia's digital fashion and beauty writer, lives online.
