Hurricanes Savagely Troll Capitals After Playoff Series Win

Yahoo18-05-2025
The Carolina Hurricanes made quick work of the Washington Capitals in their second-round playoff series. Carolina dispatched the Capitals in five games, sending the top-seeded team in the Eastern Conference to an early-season ending.
The Hurricanes used strong defense to limit the Capitals throughout the five-game series, shutting down the normally strong Washington offense. The series win for the Hurricanes was a little surprising, but Carolina has fed off being the underdog before.

But following the series' end, the Hurricanes' social media account savagely trolled the Capitals. The Dulles Airport made a post going against the Hurricanes, and Carolina responded in the best way possible.
The Hurricanes are now awaiting the winner of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Florida Panthers series. Carolina knows that whoever they play will be tough, but they are ready for the challenge ahead.
"I think honestly it'll just be the same mindset," defenseman Sean Walker said. "We don't care who we're going to play. We're going to end up just doing our systems, our game plan going forward and make them play our game. Regardless of what happens, we'll be watching, but we'll just be preparing ourselves."

Goalie Frederik Andersen has been leading the way for the Hurricanes in the postseason this year. The veteran goalie holds a 1.36 goals-against average, a .937 save percentage, and one shutout over nine games.

The Hurricanes will look to continue surprising people in the Eastern Conference Final. Sleep on Carolina at your own risk, and to be honest, the team seems to be 100 percent okay with that.

Today's NYT Strands Hints (and Answer) for Sunday, August 3, 2025

If you're looking for hints and answers for Strands for Sunday, August 3, 2025, read on—I'll share some clues and tips, and finally the solution to the puzzle with the theme 'Sorry, didn't catch that.' For an easy way to come back to our Strands hints every day, bookmark this page. You can also find our past hints there as well, in case you want to know what you missed in a previous puzzle. (If you play Wordle, Connections, or Quordle, check out our hints for those games, too.) Below, I'll give you some oblique hints at today's Strands answers. And farther down the page, I'll reveal the spangram and the answers. Scroll slowly and take just the hints you need! Hint for the spangram in today's Strands puzzle Two words describing when an athlete literally doesn't catch something. (I'd start with the theme words today. The spangram is a bit vague.) Hint for the theme words in today's Strands puzzle Specific terms related to athletic mistakes. BEWARE: Spoilers follow for today's Strands puzzle! We're about to give away the answers to today's Strands puzzle. What is the spangram in today's Strands? Today's spangram is SPORTSGOOF. What are the theme words in today's Strands? The theme words today are: FAULT, FUMBLE, ERROR, BLOOPER, MUFF, BOBBLE, WHIFF. Here's what the board looks like when the puzzle is solved: How I solved today's Strands The phrase in the puzzle theme usually refers to not hearing something, but maybe it's about literally catching an object. Yes, there's WHIFF in the bottom right, a word for missing something, like a ball. 🔵 FOUL isn't a theme word. BOBBLE is above WHIFF. 🔵 (A baseball term.) GOOF isn't a theme word. FAULT is in the upper left. 🔵 FUMBLE is to the right of FAULT. 🔵 ERROR is in the upper right corner. 🔵 Oh, GOOF is part of the spangram: SPORTSGOOF. 🟡 BLOOPER is below the left half of the spangram. 🔵 (A baseball thing, I guess.) Lastly, MUFF. 🔵 (A football thing.) How to play Strands You can find the Strands game on the New York Times website and in the NYT Games app. When you start playing, you'll see a game board with an assortment of letters, flanked by a clue that gives a hint at the board's theme—this will be a phrase, like 'Better with age.' Your job is to find the hidden words within the board that reflect the puzzle's theme. A crossword crossed with a word search The most important word to find is the 'spangram,' a word that more explicitly states the puzzle's theme. (For example, the spangram for the puzzle with the theme "Better with age" is FERMENTED, which describes products that are, you guessed it, better with age.) The spangram will span the entire game board, either from left to right or top to bottom (hence the name). When you find the spangram, it will be highlighted in yellow. Solving the spangram usually makes the rest of the puzzle much easier to complete. In Strands, words can travel any direction (up, down, left, right, and diagonal), and you will only use each letter once. There is only one correct solution. When you correctly identify one of the puzzle's words (for example, KOMBUCHA, MISO, or KIMCHI), it will be highlighted in blue. If you are struggling to solve the puzzle, you can submit any non-theme words you see (as long as they are four letters or more) to receive credit toward a single hint. If you submit three non-theme words, the 'Hint' button will be clickable; if you click it, all of the letters in one of the theme words will be highlighted for you. You will still have to link these highlighted letters in the right order to form one of the theme words. If there is already a hint on the board and you use another hint before solving for that word, that word's letter order will be revealed. How to win Strands Unlike Connections and Wordle, you cannot fail Strands. When you submit guesses, you will either correctly identify an answer, receive credit toward a hint, or the text will shake back and forth, indicating that the word you submitted is too short or not valid. You can't run out of guesses, and there is no time limit. You win when you've correctly used all the letters on the board, meaning that you have identified the spangram and all of the theme words. Like other NYT games, upon solving the puzzle, you will see a shareable card that indicates how you performed that day: blue dots 🔵 indicate theme words you found, the yellow dot 🟡 indicates when you found the spangram, and a lightbulb 💡 indicates words that you received a hint for.

Life Has Changed For Jackson Blake In A Big Way

Hard work pays off in the case of Jackson Blake. The Carolina Hurricanes rewarded Blake with an eight-year, $45 million contract after an impressive rookie season in the NHL. Last season, Blake was fighting to make the Hurricanes' opening-night roster, and now, he's in a much better and more secure position with the organization. 'A year ago today, I probably would have told you you're crazy,' Blake said via Kurt Dusterberg of "It's been an absolute whirlwind. I'm not going to lie. I didn't know if I was going to make the team last year, and then to play on the team the full year and now have this long-term deal with Carolina, it's pretty surreal.' The 22-year-old forward recorded 17 goals, 17 assists, and 34 points in 80 games while averaging 13:51 minutes. It was playing in a truly unique Hurricanes system, and specifically under head coach Rod Brind'Amour that allowed Blake to truly flourish. Brent Burns Reveals Why He Didn't Retire Former Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Brent Burns will embark on a new opportunity at 40 years old. 'Obviously, Rod did a good job with me,' Blake said. 'He knew maybe playing less minutes in the first half – seeing the game and developing me that way. When he thought I was comfortable and ready to take that next step, he gave me that opportunity and I took advantage of it. Playing with Sebastian and some of those guys was huge for my confidence to grow into the player I believe I can be.' With a new contract in hand, expectations are certainly higher for Blake, who also has high expectations for himself going into his second season in Carolina. 'I would have expected more from myself regardless of the contract or not for this year,' said Bake. 'I thought last year was pretty good, but I always strive for better in every single area.'

Dillon Gabriel's hamstring is latest addition to Browns' quarterback injury questions

BEREA — The Browns' plan for this week's joint practice and preseason opener at the Carolina Panthers may have had a major wrench thrown into the mix. There's a legitimate question about the number of quarterbacks they'll have healthy enough to play. The latest? Try rookie Dillon Gabriel, who coach Kevin Stefanski announced Aug. 4 was battling a hamstring injury. Stefanski mentioned Gabriel's injury prior to the Browns' 10th training camp practice. He said the rookie third-round pick out of Oregon was going to be limited in what he could do in practice. "He will be limited," Stefanski said. He'll be in some drills." Fourth-year pro Kenny Pickett remains limited for the third consecutive practice with the hamstring injury he sustained July 26. Rookie fifth-round pick Shedeur Sanders is returning to practice after sitting out teams drills Aug. 2 after complaining about arm soreness during individual drills. The only quarterback to not have missed any training camp time due to some kind of injury issue? The 40-year-old Joe Flacco. Based on the injuries at the position, it could be that Flacco ends up having to play in the Aug. 6 preseason opener along with the playing time he was expected to get in the joint practice Aug. 8. Stefanski wasn't going to say for certain. "I'll wait to discuss those type of things later," Stefanski said. "But yeah, Joe's ready to go if we need him." Carolina coach Dave Canales has already said the Panthers plan on playing their starters in Friday's opener. Stefanski said the Browns would "hold some players out," but did say some regulars were expected to play. This is a developing story. Check back here for updates.
