SCENENOISE X CJC610 TO HOST 'ALL DAY' NOISESESSIONS APRIL 11TH
The first big post-Eid Cairo party is here – SceneNoise x Cairo Jazz Club 610 present #NoiseSessions at CJC 610 with a 12-hour day-to-night bash. The lineup brings together regional headliners Retro Cassetta, Disco Arabesquo, and Cheb Runner, with local giant El Waili closing out the festivities, plus a host of Cairo's finest in support. It all kicks off Friday, April 11th at 2 PM on the outdoor terrace and rolls straight through till 3 AM in the club – a perfect comeback for Cairo's nightlife season.
During the day, expect sunshine grooves and a BBQ grill fired up with a generous happy hour with 50% off on burgers, beer and wine till 7 PM. Come early to soak up the sun before the nighttime mischief begins.
Starting off on the terrace at 2 PM, Armaal's Khalil will set a lush atmosphere with house-inspired grooves before Reham Mansour takes over, layering her soulful and minimal set. The increasingly tolerable Horrible DJs will then bring their eccentric act to the decks.
Closing off the terrace, Moroccan headlining crate-digger extraordinaire Retro Cassetta takes over, armed with a treasure trove of Maghrebian cassette gems. He's made a name reviving vintage chaâbi, raï, and gnawa tapes and splicing them into funky, genre-blurring club sets that celebrate North African musical heritage while keeping the dancefloor on its toes.
Then we'll make our way into the club where Moroccan maverick Cheb Runner will bring his fusion of traditional North African sounds and punchy house and techno cuts.
Local favorite Moenes will be up next with his trademark upbeat blend of disco and house influenced by late-'80s grooves, followed by Disco Arabesquo, dialing up the nostalgia with his signature Arabic disco and cassette-era pop edits. The Amsterdam-based DJ has built a cult following by turning '90s and 2000s Middle Eastern hits into dancefloor gold.
El Waili takes the reins for the closing set. The Cairo-born producer is a local electronic giant, known for mashing up electro-chaabi, trap, and MENA pop into a futuristic sound all his own. He'll be dropping trippy melodies, heavy basslines, and nostalgic shaabi samples until the very end, ensuring this marathon night finishes on an explosive high note.

Backstage: Stormy at Nawafiz Festival

We caught up with Moroccan rap sensation Stormy ahead of his performance at Utrecht's Nawafiz Festival, where we discussed his pre-performance rituals and creative process. Jun 28, 2025 Moroccan rap sensation Stormy has been unstoppable since his debut album 'ICEBERG' in 2024. His unflinching honesty, sharp flows in Darija and French, and affinity for meaningful worldplay established him as one of the most exciting talents in the region's hip-hop scene and earned him a dedicated following across Europe as well. Before his breakthrough in the scene, the Rabat-born wordsmith used to release freestyles on YouTube, where he would anxiously await feedbacks from listeners to improve his lyrical delivery. Now, as he took centre stage at this year's Nawafiz Festival in Utrecht with confidence and swagger for his Netherlands debut - further expanding his global footprint - Stormy remains as humble as he first started. For him, live performances are another means through which he tries to workshop his sound, by paying close attention to the crowd and which flows or verses of his songs they react to the most. Backstage, he was still as welcoming, warm and humble as he vulnerably shared with us his experience visiting the Netherlands for the first time, his pre-performance rituals, and creative process. Despite his chart-topping hits and almost a million monthly streams on Spotify, Stormy's intention is never about making hits, but rather creating something that accurately reflects his skills and persona, and most importantly, satisfies his thirst for creativity. Al Burda Exhibition Opens at the Aga Khan Museum in Canada - Middle East Business News and Information

Toronto, Canada – June 2025: H.E. Sheikh Salem bin Khalid Al Qassimi, Minister of Culture, in the presence of H.E. Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansoori, Foreign Minister's Envoy to Canada and Chairman of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce, inaugurated the ' As the Sun Appears from Beyond' exhibition at the Aga Khan Museum in Toronto. The exhibition commemorates the 20th anniversary of Al Burda Award and highlights the cultural partnership between the UAE Ministry of Culture and the Museum. Open to the public until 15 February 2026, the exhibition features over 60 contemporary works by Al Burda Award recipients, along with two special works from Al Badr Award, presented in visual dialogue with rare historical and archaeological artifacts from the Aga Khan Museum's collection. It explores the evolution of Arabic calligraphy, ornamentation, abstract painting, and the art of the word, highlighting an artistic journey that blends deep-rooted tradition with contemporary expression. Curated by Fatima Al Mahmoud, Sarah bin Safwan, and Sheikha Al Zaabi – three graduates of Al Burda Grant program – the exhibition embodies an artistic vision that reflects the spirit of the award and its future aspirations. It also serves as a testament to cultural exchange and creative empowerment across borders. Alongside the exhibition, a rich cultural program is taking place, offering a variety of talks, lectures, and hands-on workshops focused on Arabic calligraphy, Islamic ornamentation, and poetry. The program also features dynamic artistic performances and multidisciplinary activities that invite visitors to engage with Islamic art in an immersive and participatory way—extending the experience beyond the gallery space and highlighting the depth and vitality of contemporary expression. In conjunction with the exhibition, a commemorative book was produced to celebrate the 20-year legacy of Al Burda Award. Featuring contributions from renowned experts in Islamic art, the volume explores the Award's cultural significance and its role in advancing contemporary interpretations of Islamic aesthetics. Positioned as both a scholarly and creative resource, the publication enhances the exhibition's impact and reinforces the UAE's mission to preserve, promote, and recontextualize Islamic artistic traditions for global audiences. In his opening remarks, H.E. Sheikh Salem bin Khalid Al Qassimi emphasised the significance of this occasion as a key milestone in journey of Al Burda Award. H.E. stated: 'This exhibition represents a strategic effort to deepen cultural collaboration between the UAE and Canada and reflects our commitment to presenting Islamic arts through a contemporary lens that resonates with shared human values and fosters intercultural dialogue. Now in its 20th year, Al Burda Award continues to serve as a global Emirati platform for redefining the presence of Islamic art on the world stage.' His Excellency added: 'We are proud to partner with the Aga Khan Museum for this landmark exhibition. It reflects our dedication to cultural openness and our belief in the power of art to build bridges between civilisations. We look forward to cultivating more partnerships with international institutions that empower creatives and contribute to a more inclusive global cultural landscape.' Established in 2004, Al Burda Award has recognised more than 390 talented individuals specialising in Islamic arts, including poets, calligraphers, and visual artists from around the world. It remains a leading UAE platform that celebrates the richness of Islamic art and the beauty of Arabic language. The award also highlights the UAE's role in promoting creativity and intercultural dialogue globally, preserving the artistic heritage of Islamic civilisation, and presenting outstanding works to a global audience.
