Canoe Narrows, Sask., under full wildfire evacuation order for 2nd time this year due
Priority residents of Canoe Narrows, part of the Canoe Lake Cree First Nation located about 350 kilometres northwest of Saskatoon, were instructed to leave the community by 7 a.m. CST Wednesday in a Facebook post on Tuesday night by Michelle Morin, a resident and emergency management response co-ordinator.
The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) expanded the order overnight to include all residents.

This marks the second time Canoe Narrows has had to evacuate this year due to wildfires.
Morin said evacuees are being directed to Fort Saskatchewan, Alta., where registration will take place at the Wingate and Hampton Inn hotels.
Neighbouring Jans Bay remains under a full evacuation order as well due to the nearby Trail Fire, which is burning just south of both communities.
According to the SPSA, there were 49 active wildfires in the province as of 10 a.m. CST Wednesday, with seven considered contained.
The SPSA said 40 firefighters from Australia have arrived to support Saskatchewan's wildfire response, and another 40 from Mexico are expected later this week. They join crews from across Canada and the United States, including help from Quebec, British Columbia, Alaska, and several U.S. states.
"Saskatchewan is grateful to everyone who has helped with the unprecedented wildfire season," SPSA vice president of operations Steve Roberts said in a news release. "Thank you to everyone local and abroad for the immense support in the air and on the ground."

Thursday will be cool, wet, and windy with more rain expected this weekend
As expected, rain fell overnight in the Calgary area and will continue as a low pressure system crosses the southern Rockies and tracks west to east throughout the day. Thursday will be one of the cooler days over the next week and include north winds picking up in the late morning and remaining for most of the afternoon. In Calgary, sustained winds will peak around 20 km/h with gusts closer to 40 km/h. Rain is expected to pile up along the foothills due to the counter-clockwise rotation around the low meaning precipitation totals will be variable. Thunderstorms are also possible throughout southern Alberta Thursday with hail posing the biggest threat. Instability will persist over the next few days resulting in intermittent rain and thunderstorms across the region. Thursday will be cool, wet, and windy with more rain expected this weekend At this point, Calgary looks to be directly in the path of most of the incoming systems and could see as much as 30 millimetres of rain over the next few days. Daytime highs in Calgary will return to the low 20s to kick off the weekend, but still remain slightly below seasonal for until the middle of next week.

Edmonton weather: Partly cloudy and hazy with some showers on tap
The Air Quality Health Index rose to the high risk range early this morning as temperatures cooled and some of the smoke aloft sunk closer to the surface. We'll probably see the AQHI stay there through the morning and then improve to a moderate risk this afternoon. With light wind in the forecast, it's unlikely that the smoke completely clear out of the area until early tonight or early Friday. The smoke modelling (which has been very accurate of late) has a significant improvement for Friday in the Edmonton area. However, northeastern Alberta will likely get a very smoky day Friday and may see some air quality warnings issued. Aside from the haze, we'll be Partly Cloudy through today with temperatures rising to around 23 or 24 C. There's an area of low pressure bringing showers to southern Alberta today and on the northern edge of that system, we may see a scattered shower or thunderstorm develop near the Edmonton region this afternoon or early this evening. It'll be very hit and miss and I think most of the city will probably get missed. Friday night and early Saturday morning have a much higher potential to bring some precipitation to the Edmonton area. We'll be partly cloudy and gusty through the day Friday. But, another low-pressure system moving in from the west will bring some showers and thunderstorms to western Alberta through the afternoon and evening hours Friday. As that system moves eastwards, it should push some showers OR periods of rain through the Edmonton region Friday night/early Saturday morning. It's still looking like we'll get a break from the rain for the late-morning and early afternoon hours Saturday (probably even a few glimpses of the sun breaking through the clouds). THEN...a chance of scattered showers for the evening hours Saturday. That should be a lot more hit and miss and the risk of showers Sunday looks fairly hit and miss as well. Bottom line: YES, we will very likely get some rain this weekend, and probably both days. BUT, it doesn't look like we'll see two full days of steady rain. Afternoon highs will be between 18 and 22 C (depending on whether we get afternoon precipitation and the timing). I've split the difference and gone with highs of 20 C for both Saturday and Sunday. Here's the forecast for Edmonton and area: Today - Partly cloudy with wildfire haze. Light wind. Slight risk of a late-afternoon shower or thunderstorm. St. Clair Region Conservation Authority flood outlook in effect
Social Sharing The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority (SCRCA) has issued an early notice of potential flooding in the region. The flood outlook is in effect until 4 p.m. Thursday unless otherwise updated. Thunderstorms on Wednesday afternoon brought approximately 80 millimetres of rainfall to the watershed in Sarnia and 55 mm in Warwick, the authority said on its website. Environment and Climate Change Canada is forecasting the potential for further thunderstorms into mid-day Thursday, which could bring an additional 30 to 50 mm of rain with a peak rainfall intensity of up to 50 mm per hour. That could lead to increased runoff and localized flooding, ponding on roads and flash flooding, particularly in urban areas, the authority said in a news release. Coupled with the heavy rainfall Wednesday, water levels and flows are expected to increase and may elevate into low-lying areas surrounding rivers and streams. The authority is reminding people to avoid watercourses and flooded areas due to dangerous conditions, slippery banks and swift moving water.
