Pakistan bites dust at UNSC as members seek accountability for Pahalgam terror attack
While Pakistan is trying to spread anti-India narratives on the international platform, reports are emerging that the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is seeking accountability from Islamabad for the Pahalgam attack. According to the Indian government sources, the UNSC closed-door meeting on the brewing diplomatic and military tensions between India and Pakistan has failed to yield any substantive outcome for Islamabad.
The source told The Times of India that the USNC put a dent in Pakistan's ambition to internationalise the matter and sought accountability from Islamabad over the Pahalgam terrorist attack. As per the report, the UNSC expressed concerns over Pakistan's nuclear rhetoric and missile tests.

The source told TOI that the views were expressed individually, and the international body is yet to collectively make any statement on the matter, which also worked in India's favour since Pakistan was hoping for a statement of condemnation.
What happened at the meeting?
The sources told TOI that in the 90-minute-long meeting, member states condemned the Pahalgam attack and posed questions about the likelihood of involvement of the UN-proscribed Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba. Former Indian permanent representative to the UN, Syed Akbaruddin, told TOI that the lack of response from the UNSC after the meeting says a lot.
'The lack of a response by the Council to Pakistan's briefing is a vindication of the Indian stance,' said Akbaruddin, who was India's ambassador to the UN when Pakistan last sought closed-door consultations through China in 2019. The meeting at that time also ended without any formal statement. In both instances, China helped Pakistan to push its narrative.
In the recent meeting, the source told TOI that members disapproved of the false flag narrative and also questioned the targeting of tourists based on their religious identity.
'There was broad condemnation of the terrorist attack and recognition of the need for accountability. Some members specifically brought up the targeting of tourists based on their religious faith,'' the source told TOI. The member states argued that Pakistan's missile tests and nuclear rhetoric were 'escalatory factors'. Overall, Pakistan's plan to push its narrative internationally backfired with the UNSC's silence.

India hits back at US over auto tariffs, proposes retaliatory duties at WTO
India has proposed imposing retaliatory tariffs on select US products in response to Washington's safeguard duties on automobile imports from India, according to a notification circulated at the World Trade Organization (WTO). The notification, submitted to the WTO's Council for Trade in Goods, outlines India's plan to suspend concessions or other obligations under the WTO framework. The move follows the US decision to levy a 25 per cent ad valorem tariff on imports of passenger vehicles, light trucks, and certain automobile parts from India, effective May 3, 2025. India has argued that these safeguard measures violate the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) 1994 and the WTO Agreement on Safeguards. New Delhi also noted that the United States has not officially notified these measures to the WTO, despite their significant impact on bilateral trade. 'The proposed suspension of concessions or other obligations would take the form of an increase in tariffs on selected products originating in the United States,' the notification of the WTO said, adding: 'This notification is made in connection with safeguard measures extended by the United States of America on imports of automobile parts from India.' As consultations requested by India have not taken place, the country has invoked its right under WTO rules to suspend equivalent concessions. According to the notification, the US tariffs are expected to affect Indian exports worth $2.895 billion annually, resulting in a projected duty collection of $723.75 million. 'Accordingly, India's proposed suspension of concessions would result in an equivalent amount of duty collected from products originating in the United States,' the notice states. India has also reserved the right to modify the list of targeted products and the level of tariffs as necessary, and to issue further notifications if required. 'India reserves the right to withdraw, modify, supplement or replace this notification,and/or make a further notification or notifications as and when required.' The move comes even as India and the United States continue negotiations on an interim trade agreement to strengthen bilateral trade ties. T.N. CM Stalin releases ‘Coimbatore Master Plan 2041'
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Friday (July 4, 2025) released the 'Coimbatore Master Plan 2041' — a Geographic Information System-based plan that has been prepared for the Coimbatore local planning area, spread over 1,531 sq. km — at the Secretariat in Chennai. The Coimbatore local planning area includes a municipal corporation, four municipalities, 21 town panchayats, and 66 revenue villages — all of them spread over 1,531 sq. km, an official release said. The document has been prepared by the Directorate of Town and Country Planning under the Housing and Urban Development Department, with inputs from over 40 departments and agencies. Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, Minister for Housing and Urban Development S. Muthusamy, Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam, and senior officials were also present on the occasion at the Secretariat in Chennai. MoU signed In another event, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed to operate the Cuddalore harbour. The pact was signed between the Tamil Nadu Maritime Board and Mahathi Cuddalore Port and Maritime Private Limited, in the presence of the Chief Minister. Minister for Highways and Minor Ports E.V. Velu and senior officials were also present. 'Will help plan development' With the new master plan, 'the public can clearly know the land-use pattern for every survey number, areas available for building new industries, and reserve forest areas, among others. It will help plan development properly,' said Rajesh B. Lund, president of the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Coimbatore. An official said the G.O. on the master plan is expected soon, and the plan will be uploaded on the government website. Mr. Lund said the master plan was a long-awaited demand of Coimbatore, and that it shows the growth of the region. The government should keep the plan open-ended so it can incorporate the demands and suggestions of the public when necessary. S.R. Arvind Kumar, president of Confederation of Real Estate Developers Associations of India, Coimbatore, said the plan released in 1994 had 59% of area earmarked for agriculture purposes. The revised plan has 33% earmarked as green area and has opened up the remaining area for development. It has incorporated ring road and sewage treatment proposals. The plan has envisioned the needs of the region when the population grows to about 60 lakh, he said.
