Edmonton's Leon Draisaitl and Tampa Bay's Nikita Kucherov were the other Hart finalists, just ahead of Colorado's reigning MVP Nathan MacKinnon, as chosen by members of the Professional Hockey Writers Association. Hellebuyck was a landslide winner of the Vezina as picked by general managers.
Hellebuyck won the Vezina for a second year in a row and for the third time in his career. He backstopped the Jets to the Presidents' Trophy for the best regular season and the William Jennings Trophy for the fewest goals allowed before losing in the second round of the playoffs to Dallas.
Price was the last to pull off the Hart-Vezina double in 2015. Hellebuyck is just the sixth goalie to do it, joining Price, Jose Theodore in 2002, Dominik Hasek in 1997 and '98 and Jacques Plante in '62.
Kucherov, the Art Ross Trophy winner for leading all scorers with 122 points this season, was also chosen for the Ted Lindsay Award as most outstanding player, as voted on by his peers. The Russian winger was MVP in 2019 when the Lightning finished atop the standings.

Spain edges Canada in men's rugby test match with penalty kick on final play in Edmonton

Spain's penalty kick on the final play of the game was enough to defeat the Canadian men's rugby team 24-23 in Friday's test match. The host Canadians recovered from an 11-6 halftime deficit at Edmonton's Clarke Stadium to take a 20-11 lead on the strength of two tries by Calgary's Matt Oworu. Peter Nelson of Dungannon, Northern Island, contributed 13 points from the tee for Canada, but Spain capitalized on a last-minute penalty to snatch the win. Lopez Bontempo's 25-metre kick sealed the victory for the visitors. Back-to-back yellow cards to Canada's props — Calixto Martinez for a high tackle and Emerson Prior for collapsing a maul — had handed momentum back to Spain. A penalty try and another Bontempo kick brought the score to 23-21. The match wrapped July's test window for Canada ahead of the Pacific Nations Cup. Canada opens against the United States in Calgary on Aug. 22 in a match that doubles as the start of Canada's 2027 Rugby World Cup qualification campaign. "I think we showed we have the talent to hang with everyone," Oworu said after the loss to Spain. "When we were pushing to score at the end, we just slipped for half-a-second, and that's just test rugby. It's a game of inches, and we just missed on that last inch."

International water ski event will see young rising stars compete in Edmonton

(Sean McClune/CTV News Edmonton) Young athletes from around the world are putting on their skis and hitting the water for an international competition in Edmonton this weekend. The Junior Canadian Water Ski Open returns for its fourth year, which sees rising talent in the sport compete in three skiing events – slalom, trick and jump – from Friday to Sunday. Shalom Ski Park, which has a man-made lake nestled near the North Saskatchewan River, is hosting the event that is open to competitors under 21 years old. 'When I built it, I didn't really expect it to achieve this kind of success but some of the top skiers in the world have considered it to be the best place to ever ski,' Shalom Ski Park owner Ken Nelson told CTV News Edmonton on Friday, as water skiers were training on the lake. (Sean McClune/CTV News Edmonton) Nelson said the park is celebrating its 40th anniversary and he originally looked for a site for skiing under controlled elements. 'The size of the lake controls all elements, even on a windy day, (and) it's not very rough,' he added, saying the boats can go up to speeds of 35 miles per hour when skiers are jumping. Evan Kraus, a 20 year-old who has been water skiing since he was three, grew up in Calgary and now lives in Dallas. But he said he comes up every summer to ski in Edmonton. 'A lot of the athletes that are here today are going to be competing at worlds in a few weeks, so it's a really high level event and there's a lot of good skiing,' Kraus said, referencing the U-21 World Championships in Calgary at the end of July. (Sean McClune/CTV News Edmonton) Sixteen-year-old Sophia Zhang from Edmonton started being interested in water sports three years ago and began competing in slalom for the last two years. She said seeing skiers from around the world compete in her hometown is inspiring. 'It's really cool that so many people from around the world are coming here and it's really interesting to watch how everyone skis,' Zhang told CTV News Edmonton. 'I really love the sport and I'll just see where it takes me.' Nelson said hosting young athletes from as far as Germany and Australia is the goal of the event. 'The wonderful thing about working with these young kids is that they develop skills that put them at the point where they can actually get scholarships to go to university.' The event is free to watch and attend. With files from CTV News Edmonton's Sean McClune and Sasha Pietramala
