Atlantic Starr founding member Wayne Lewis dead aged 68

Yahoo07-06-2025
Wayne Lewis, founding member of the R B group Atlantic Starr, has died aged 68. The American singer and keyboardist was a pivotal force behind the group's success in the late 1980s and early 1990s, which included chart-topping hits such as Always, Secret Lovers and Masterpiece, and died on Thursday (05.06.25), though news of his passing only came to light on Saturday (07.06.25.) His cause of death has not been disclosed. The news was announced on the band's official Facebook page, with a post saying: 'It's with great sadness we have to post the passing of Wayne Lewis on June 5, 2025. Please keep the family in your prayers and respect their privacy.' Tributes from fans flooded the page, describing Wayne as a 'legend' and the 'voice of a generation'. One wrote: 'RIP BROTHER… The voice of a generation!!!! My condolences to the family.' Another commented: 'Rest in Peace! Talented and Gorgeous.' Further tributes included: 'RIP thanks for the music,' and 'Thank you for the legacy condolences to the family and friends.' Wayne, who co-founded Atlantic Starr in New York, remained a core member of the group throughout decades of changes in its line-up. Alongside his brother Jonathan Lewis, also a founding member, Wayne helped shape the band's smooth blend of R and B, soul and pop. The group released their debut album in 1978 but found mainstream success nearly a decade later. Their 1987 single Always reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and R B charts, securing the band's place in music history. Their 1992 track Masterpiece also became a major hit, peaking at number three on both the US Pop and R and B charts. In recent years, Wayne had continued touring the US with Jonathan, their nephew Shammah Carter, and vocalist Melessa Pierce under the name Atlantic Starr Band. Wayne's death comes just three months after the passing of another 1980s R ands B star, Stedman Pearson, frontman of British band Five Star. Stedman, who died aged 60 in March 2025, was known for his family group's slick performances and success with tracks such as Rain or Shine. He was described by family as an 'amazing son, brother and uncle' and 'a gentleman to the very end'.

Cops called as Denise Richards shows up at ex's home amid restraining order

The cops were called on Denise Richards Sunday when the reality star allegedly showed up at the home of her estranged husband, Aaron Phypers, despite a restraining order the reality star has taken out amid their divorce battle. A divorce lawyer for the 'Real Housewives of Beverly Hills' alum, 54, told TMZ that Richards only arrived at the Calabasas home Sunday 'after confirming that Mr. Phypers was not present,' and did so 'to retrieve her dogs after learning that Mr. Phypers had put down one of her other dogs without her knowledge or permission.' Phypers, who denies Richards' recent claims of longstanding physical abuse, told the outlet that everything the 'Wild Things' star claimed was 'absolutely false. 'Denise's actions are willfully intentional in the slander and destruction of what is left of a family,' continued the 52-year-old 'frequency medicine' practitioner. 'This is after Denise chose to carry on an adulterous affair — after being caught not once, not twice, but three times.' Photos published by the outlet show the OnlyFans star speaking to a trio of deputies outside the home, which is owned by Phypers, his parents and brother. One image shows Phypers speaking to one of the officers, while another shows him hugging his elderly mother. Phypers, who wed Richards in 2018, filed for divorce July 7, three days after he said they separated. Richards has claimed he 'would frequently violently choke' her and subject her to other forms of physical abuse, including leaving her with a black eye in 2022. She was granted a restraining order against Phypers, which lasts until their scheduled court appearance on Aug. 8, and orders him to stay 100 yards from Richards, her home, car and place of business. Richards last week accused Phypers of disseminating her texts and illegally leaking her nude photos. 'Mr. Phypers has continued to harass Ms. Richards since being served with the Temporary Restraining Order by, among other things, disseminating private information from Ms. Richards' cell phone and laptop, which he stole,' her lawyer alleged in a statement to multiple outlets in late July. 'These actions continue to disturb Ms. Richards' peace. … Ms. Richards will not be responding to Mr. Phypers' false allegations in a public forum and will be addressing Mr. Phypers' abuse in Court.'

‘Real Housewives' Star Wonders If Stage 4 Cancer Was 'Payback' For Her Rumored Affair

Teddi Mellencamp opened up for the first time about a rumored affair with her horse trainer ― and how it affected her family and her health. The former 'Real Housewives of Beverly Hills' cast mate spoke about her alleged infidelity during an appearance on 'The Jamie Kern Lima Show.' 'I've never talked about it at all ― just because of the kids,' Mellencamp said during the interview, which was released Tuesday. Mellencamp, who was married at the time, shares three children with her now-ex-husband, Edwin Arroyave. 'And I've never wanted anybody to have a, you know, a guarantee whether it happened or didn't happen,' the reality star said. 'But what I can say is: Did I do things that hurt other people? Yes.' 'To this day, does it still hurt my heart and I wonder if that's why I got cancer?' Mellencamp said, as she began to cry. 'Yes. Like it was my payback.' Mellencamp, who is the daughter of famous singer John Cougar Mellencamp, was diagnosed with melanoma in 2022. She recently shared that her cancer had progressed to Stage 4, as her melanoma metastasized to her lungs and brain. 'Nothing goes without payment, I guess,' she said, adding that she was 'so broken as a human being during that part of my life that I did things out of my better judgment.' During the vulnerable interview, Mellencamp also spoke about her ex-husband's infidelity, which came to light just before she and her family starred on 'The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.' The podcaster said her husband was unfaithful with someone that she knew and that she had to 'beg Edwin to wanna stay with me.' 'I don't think he was in love with me at that point. I think we've gone through times in our marriage where we've been madly in love with each other, but that wasn't one of those times,' she said. 'And there was a while that I thought maybe I'll leave, and then it got better.' Mellencamp filed for divorce from Arroyave in November 2024 and announced the news on Instagram. 'After a great deal of care and consideration, I have made the difficult decision to file for divorce,' she said at the time. 'My priority is my children and ensuring that every care is taken with their privacy and wellbeing throughout this new chapter.' The former couple share three children together: Slate, 12; Cruz, 10; and Dove, 5. Related...
