Seattle switch-pitcher Jurrangelo Cijntje picked for All-Star Futures Game at Atlanta on July 12
A 22-year-old from the Netherlands selected with the 15th overall pick, Cijntje is 4-4 with 4.88 ERA in 12 starts and three relief appearances for High-A Everett in his first professional season, striking out 58 and walking 31 in 51 2/3 innings.

He has held 180 batters to a .165 average (26 for 158) with seven home runs pitching right-handed and 42 batters to a .360 average (9 for 25) with two home runs pitching left-handed.
Among other first-round picks from last year are Colorado first baseman/outfielder Charlie Condon (third), St. Louis shortstop JJ Wetherholt (seventh), Pittsburgh shortstop Konnor Griffin (ninth), Chicago White Sox outfielder Braden Montgomery (12th), New York Mets outfielder Carson Benge (19th), Toronto right-hander Trey Yesavage (20th), Minnesota shortstop Kaelen Culpepper (21st) and Arizona outfielder Slade Caldwell (29th).
There are 17 former first-round picks overall.
San Diego 18-year-old shortstop Leo De Vries is among 13 international prospects, including five from the Dominican Republic, three from Venezuela, two from Canada, and one each from the Bahamas, Cuba and Panama.

Detroit outfielder Max Clark was picked for the second straight year after going 1 for 4 at Texas last July.
Washington right-hander Marquis Grissom Jr. is on the NL team. His father, Marquis Grissom, is the AL manager, while the NL is managed by Braves Hall of Famer Chipper Jones.
Among 1,170 players who have appeared in Futures Games, 86.5% have played in at least one big league game and 250 total players (21.4%) have been selected for a major league All-Star Game.

Atletico Madrid adds playmaker Álex Baena from Villarreal
MADRID (AP) — Atletico Madrid continued boosting its squad by signing midfielder Álex Baena from Villarreal on Wednesday. The transfer was announced a day after Atletico said it signed 22-year-old Italian left back Matteo Ruggeri from Atalanta. Both have signed five-year contracts. Financial details were not immediately disclosed. The 27-year-old Baena helped Spain win last summer's European Championship and Olympic gold medal. Baena made his Spain senior-team debut in 2023 against Cyprus, scoring with his first touch of the ball two minutes after entering the match. He helped Villarreal win the Europa League in 2021 and spent the following season on loan at Girona. Atletico said Baena 'has great dribbling ability, shooting and vision, and throughout his career has played in every possible position in midfield, especially as a left winger, although he is naturally right-footed.' Atletico has parted ways with some players from last season's squad including Reinildo, Axel Witsel and Cesar Azpilicueta. Caitlin Clark says WNBA is 'sick' over Fever's Commissioner's Cup title
Caitlin Clark has finally snapped back at her opponents. Since making her WNBA debut last year, Clark has been the victim of hard fouls on the court and cultural wars off of it. The cries from fans saying Clark's opponents are jealous of her have been loud and clear, and they were recently amplified when players ranked her the ninth-best All-Star guard in the WNBA. Well, it appears Clark is hitting back. The Indiana Fever won the WNBA's Commissioner's Cup, an in-season tournament, with their 74-59 win over the Minnesota Lynx on Tuesday night, and the team celebrated in the locker room with some champagne and vodka seltzers. Fever forward Aaliyah Boston took to Instagram Live to give a behind-the-scenes look at the celebration when Clark, who did not play due to a groin injury, took a shot. "Guys, I just know everybody in the league is sick," Clark is heard saying from out of the shot. The teammates replied with laughter, with Boston adding, "They're p---ed." While celebrating, Clark also voiced an opinion on the tournament and the $500,000 prize for the winning team. "You get more (money) for this than you do if you're the (WNBA Finals) champion. It makes no sense. Someone tell [WNBA commissioner] Cathy [Engelbert] to help us out," she said in another video. It's been reported that WNBA champions win an extra $20,000, but the in-season tournament winnings come out to around $30,000 per player. Clark was the first overall pick last year after becoming the NCAA's all-time leading scorer in both men's and women's Division I basketball. Her games in both college and the pros have been among some of the most-watched of all time. Her return from a calf injury on June 14 garnered 2.2 million viewers, the third-most watched WNBA game ever on ABC. The game peaked at 2.8 million viewers, a 76% increase from last season's regular-season average on the network. The WNBA had its most-watched regular season in 24 years last season and its highest attendance in 22 years. Ahead of the WNBA season, the Fever had the 10 most in-demand games on StubHub, with most of their games being moved to larger capacity venues. Despite this, Angel Reese once said that the rise of women's basketball "is not just because of one person - it's because of me, too." A'ja Wilson also once said that Clark's race was a "huge thing" when it came to her popularity.
