2025 Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give Exceeds Goal, Raising $1.5 Million to Fight Hunger and Feed Communities in Need

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., June 15, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — The 11th Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give concluded today, crowning Carlota Ciganda as its 2025 champion. The event, held at Blythefield Country Club in Belmont, Mich., featured an exciting four days of top-tier golf and extraordinary community impact.
Tournament officials proudly announced the event exceeded its goal for the Meijer Simply Give hunger relief program, raising $1.5 million to help stock the shelves of hundreds of food pantries across the Midwest. Including this year's event, the Meijer LPGA Classic has now generated more than 100 million meals for hungry families.
'The Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give continues to grow in popularity and impact,' said Rick Keyes, President and CEO of Meijer. 'We are incredibly grateful for how the community embraced our event again this year, helping set attendance and volunteer records. More importantly, we are proud of the significant impact this tournament has on communities throughout the Midwest. This would not be possible without the staff, volunteers, sponsors, players, and spectators who made this a week to remember.'
Ciganda birdied the final two holes to win the Meijer LPGA Classic on Sunday for her first LPGA Tour victory in more than eight years. This was her third career LPGA Tour victory and first since the 2016 Citi Banamex Lorena Ochoa Invitational. The victory ties her with Beatriz Recari as the winningest Spanish player in LPGA Tour history with three titles. Additionally, she became just the second European to claim the Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give crown, following Leona Maguire's 2023 triumph.
'It feels amazing, obviously, after all these years,' Ciganda said. 'I love coming here. It reminds me of Spain where I'm from. Very similar. Lots of trees, peaceful. I love the golf course. Five par 5s, you can hit it hard here.'
This year's tournament featured a stellar field of competitors, including past champions, top-ranked LPGA players, and emerging talent, all vying for the title. With more than 1,400 volunteers, the four-day event also offered a variety of family-friendly activities, food experiences, and opportunities for fans to engage with their favorite players, making it a memorable week for the most attended Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give yet.
'The 2025 tournament was truly unforgettable, and we're proud to offer an experience that brings the community together in such a meaningful way,' said Cathy Cooper, Executive Director of the Meijer LPGA Classic. 'We're so grateful to have the opportunity to bring the LPGA Tour to West Michigan.'
Dates for the 2026 Meijer LPGA Classic will be released in the coming weeks.
In addition to the $1.5 million raised by this year's event, Meijer will donate $25,000 to a hunger relief organization of Ciganda's choice as part of a tradition the retailer started in 2021. Last year's Champion, Lilia Vu, chose to support The Other Way Ministries in Grand Rapids, Mich. Details on Ciganda's donation will be shared in the coming weeks.

Jeneath breaks through with maiden Major cut at British Women's Open

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's top amateur golfer Jeneath Wong made a breakthrough on Friday by making the cut at a Major for the first time at the British Women's Open in Wales The 20-year-old, competing alongside the 144-player world-class field at Royal Porthcawl Golf Club in Mid Glamorgan, carded rounds of even-par 72 and two-over 74 to post a two-over 146 total, finishing just above the cutline in a share of 53rd. Jeneath earned her place in the year's final women's Major through her victory at the Women's Amateur Asia-Pacific (WAAP) in March — a win that also handed her starts at the Chevron Championship and Evian Championship. However, she missed the cut at both events, making her breakthrough in Wales all the more significant. Adding to the occasion, Jeneath was drawn alongside two of the game's notable names — American Rose Zhang, a two-time LPGA Tour winner, and Australia's Hannah Green, who boasts six LPGA titles — for the opening two rounds. The experience proved invaluable. "I think just playing with the best golfers in the world gave me confidence, to see that I'm up to their level," said Jeneath. "They still make mistakes like amateurs do, but seeing how they minimise it really opened my eyes, how they can just bounce back so quickly." The Royal Porthcawl layout itself also made an impression on the young Malaysian. "Porthcawl is a beautiful course and demands creativity for all shots from tee to green, especially around the greens," she added. Jeneath's achievement is also notable as Malaysia's former sole LPGA Tour representative, Kelly Tan, made four appearances at the British Women's Open but never advanced to the weekend rounds. Making the cut is a big milestone for Jeneath, and she will now aim to climb the leaderboard over the weekend while gaining more experience competing against the world's best.

Sarawakian golfer Mirabel Ting clinches maiden pro win

The 19-year-old from Miri delivered a commanding performance to secure a nine-shot victory. — Bernama file photo KUCHING (Aug 1): Sarawakian golf star Mirabel Ting Ern Hui achieved a major milestone in her blossoming career, capturing her first professional title just weeks after turning pro on July 3. The 19-year-old from Miri delivered a commanding performance to secure a nine-shot victory at the PGM Royal Pahang Championship, held at the Pahang Royal Golf Club, finishing with a three-day total of 14-under-par 202. Mirabel was in control from start to finish in the 54-hole tournament, opening with a 67, then surging ahead with a brilliant 65 on Wednesday to take a five-shot lead into the final round. She closed with a composed two-under 70 on Thursday and was the only player in the women's field to shoot under par in all three rounds. This marks Mirabel's second career win on the PGM Tour, her first being at the Fortuner Cup in June 2023, when she was still an amateur. The win also earned her RM10,000 in prize money. Veteran pro Aretha Pan finished runner-up with a five-under 211 (68-69-74), while fellow Sarawakian Zulaikah Nasser claimed third place at even-par 216 (73-72-71). Reflecting on her win, Mirabel paid a heartfelt tribute to her late grandfather, Ng Siaw Pheng, who introduced her to the sport. 'He always hoped I'd turn pro and compete at the highest level,' she told the New Straits Times. 'He was always there for me and Malcolm (my brother) whenever we returned to Miri.' Mirabel said she was thrilled to be playing at home and alongside her brother. 'This win means a lot,' she added. The former world No. 2 amateur made her professional debut earlier this month at the Amundi Evian Championship in France, one of the LPGA's five majors. Although she missed the cut, she has now bounced back impressively on home soil. Mirabel Ting Ern Hui PGM Royal Pahang Championship
