Raj unveils new primary school curriculum aligned with NEP'20

Jaipur: The Rajasthan education department has announced a comprehensive overhaul of primary education textbooks, aligning them with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 guidelines.
The new curriculum, set to be implemented from July 1, will cover classes 1-5 and introduces a wide range of topics from Indian history to contemporary achievements.
The reformed textbooks will feature stories of national heroes and revolutionaries, including Maharana Pratap, Chhatrapati Shivaji, Subhash Chandra Bose and Vallabhbhai Patel. Students will also learn about modern achievements like the Chandrayaan Mission and cultural events such as the Maha Kumbh.
"These changes reflect our commitment to providing education that is both child-friendly and relevant to current needs," said Shweta Fageria, director of RSCERT.
The curriculum introduces practical subjects like road safety and municipal body functions, while also highlighting environmental conservation through stories like the Khejarli Balidan, which documents the sacrifice of over 360 Bishnois who protected Khejri trees.

Education minister Madan Dilawar emphasised that the new approach moves beyond traditional bookish knowledge. "Students will receive practical and interesting information about Indian culture, history and geography, along with stories of our brave warriors," he said.
In accordance with NEP guidelines, primary education will be conducted in local languages and mother tongues, with specially prepared dictionaries for various dialects.
The education department has established a clear timeline, ensuring that all students up to class 5 will receive their new textbooks by July.
A state-level committee formed in Nov continues to review the entire school curriculum. The initiative represents a significant step toward modernising education while preserving cultural heritage and promoting practical learning in Rajasthan's primary schools.
The new system will introduce revolutionary leaders and democratic concepts from class 3 onwards, integrated across Hindi, English and EVS subjects. By class 5, students will study detailed biographies of historical figures like Veer Durgadas Rathore and Dayanand Saraswati, providing a comprehensive understanding of India's rich historical legacy.

With the city reeling under monsoon-related issues, residents from across Nagpur raised concerns about drainage failures, poor sanitation, unsafe streets, and pending infrastructure projects. Ravindra Borkar, principal of a private school on Nari Road, appeared with 12 staff members to highlight the condition of a damaged sewer line running alongside the school premises. The broken line has caused gutter water to flood the school's playground daily, making it unusable. "Students have fallen sick repeatedly, and parents are pulling their children out," Borkar said, stressing that the issue has existed for years without any corrective action. Land registration freeze continues over ‘tampered' records in Andhra Pradesh
Vijayawada: The state govt is virtually left clueless to resolve the contentious free-hold lands issue. The registration of about 20 lakh acres of assigned lands has been put on hold on the suspicion of tampering of records. Although, the govt conducted village level revenue meetings to screen the land records, it could not resolve the free-hold lands issue in the last one year. Several lakhs of farmers have been struggling to sell their lands as the govt is delaying the decision to lift the ban on registration of the lands entered into the prohibitory lands register. The state govt has even appointed a Group of Ministers (GoM) to study the issue after the senior officials failed to come up with a solution. We wanted to protect the rights of the genuine landlords as well as the govt property," said revenue minister Anagani Satya Prasad. A large number of farmers and eligible assignees, thought that the govt will free up the freeze orders at least to the extent which were not on the suspicion list. Giving a shocker to the original assignees, the govt has extended the ban by another three months in the guise of further verification of records. "The govt looks keen to hand over the lands of the poor to landlords and corporates with such delay tactics. We demand that an all-party meeting be held immediately to formulate a comprehensive policy on the land issue," CPM state secretary V Srinivasa Rao. He explained that successive govts have stated that approximately 32 lakh acres of surplus land were distributed to the poor since 1970. However, previous govt declared that around 15 lakh acres were encroached upon by influential persons. "Before elections, Naidu had promised to take the assigned lands from the ineligible people back and given to genuine beneficiaries. Not even an acre was distributed besides resolution of the existing 22-A controversy," said Srinivasa Rao.
