Taylor Swift fans had no idea iconic song was originally written for movie

Taylor Swift fans have been left baffled after discovering one of the singer's tracks was actually written to be part of a 2013 film - and it's not one you'd expect
Taylor Swift fans are just discovering the origins of one of her lesser-known songs. The singer-songwriter has 11 studio albums to her name and has released hundreds of songs, including tracks that have been written as part of film soundtracks or standalone singles that don't appear on her albums.
But one little-known Taylor Swift track has got people talking lately, as some of her fans have only just found out how it came into existence. Following the 2019 dispute over the ownership of Swift's back catalogue, the singer began re-recording some of her earlier albums and often included unreleased tracks that hadn't been on the original release.

On the Tangerine Edition of 1989 (Taylor's Version), released in 2023, Swift included a track titled Sweeter Than Fiction. She also performed it live for the first time during her Eras Tour in Amsterdam in 2024.

But although the song had never appeared on an album before, it was not a new song - and it was actually released in 2013 as part of the soundtrack for a very unlikely film.
In a TikTok clip shared by the podcast Talk of the Townsends, co-hosts Benedict and Hannah Townsend talk about the little-known song and reveal that it was created for the 2013 film, One Chance.
One Chance is a biographical film about Britain's Got Talent winner and opera singer Paul Potts. It stars James Corden as the singer and Julie Walters as Paul's mother, Yvonne.
In the video, Hannah stated: "I genuinely think a Taylor Swift fact that a lot of people won't know is that she wrote Sweeter Than Fiction for the Paul Potts movie.
"At the time, Taylor Swift was out of cycle, meaning she wasn't releasing any more music until the next album. But the Paul Potts story, with James Corden, apparently, she was like, 'I have to be involved in that'. I'm not sure if she was just so enthralled with Paul Potts and his story.

"So she wrote Sweeter Than Fiction [for it]. And she sang it on The Eras Tour, I believe it was in Amsterdam. She sang Sweeter Than Fiction. A song from the Paul Potts movie was sung on The Eras Tour."
Swift previously spoke about wanting to be involved in the film during an interview with BBC Newsbeat in 2013, where she said her record label didn't want her to take on the project until she begged them to be a part of it.
She said: "My management, my label were like, 'No new music until the next album comes out.' Then I saw the movie and I was like, 'I have to be a part of this.'

"I think this movie is so incredible, it's funny, it's adorable, it's heart-warming, and I'm lucky to be a part of it."
The song even earned Swift a Golden Globe nomination for Best Original Song, although it lost out to Ordinary Love by U2, which was written for Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.
Commenters on the Townsends' video were baffled to learn of the song's origin. Even some who declared it their "favourite Taylor Swift song" had no idea where it came from.
One person said: "I do love Taylor, but sometimes I am just flabbergasted by some of the projects she's been involved in." Another added: "This is how I learn there's a whole Paul Potts movie."

Man buys hundreds of scratch cards on Ryanair flight - and is stunned by the winnings

A man bought hundreds of scratch cards on a Ryanair flight to see what his winings would be. But he was left astounded by the results. Vik on TikTok said his friend, Ethan, was interested to know how lucky he'd get, if he purchased all the scratch cards he could find on board the flight. But he wasn't quite expecting to get the results he did. In a travel video shared online, Vik was left stunned by what he was left with at the end of the journey. He bought so many cards that even passengers were helping him to scratch them off in the end, reports BelfastLive. Telling people what happened, Viktok said: "We are here on Ryanair and this man Ethan has bought every single scratch card on the flight. I've opened about 100 scratch cards, I've been opening these one at a time. "We have not won a single thing. We have won nothing - no one has won anything. I'll keep you guys posted." Vik then goes on to recount the journey, where it's revealed Ethan snapped up 68 packets of scratch cards. However, despite a lot of scratching, they don't seem to be lucky. He bought so many that passengers on the plane started to help him scratch them off, but nobody seemed to win any prizes. Someone is seen shouting: "No one won anything." Vik added: "You're supposed to match three - I can't even match two. We've lost again." They couldn't believe they didn't win anything at all. Since the video was shared, it's been viewed thousands of times, and people were quick to comment too. They had all sorts of thoughts to share. One said: "100% they won't allow mass buying on the flight again, lol." A second claimed: "I am cabin crew for Ryanair and there is so much more that you don't know. They can't sell you that many. There is a limit spend per passenger. Cabin crew in trouble!" A third replied: "I wonder how many people have ever won money on those." Meanwhile, a fourth also commented: "I remember winning like £26 of on board vouchers. When asking to buy something, I heard the cabin crew say 'someone's actually won'. That's how slim your odds are." Ryanair's scratch cards faced criticism years ago, after it was uncovered that anyone who "wins" the jackpot is later entered into a separate draw for the chance of winning the €1million prize. The 2016 report revealed the "lucky" winner would then be taken into a room with 125 envelopes that they must select from, with just one holding the top prize. At the time, Ryanair noted other envelopes contain €50,000, which meant a hefty sum could still be won. It was also said one car a month is won in the draw, as well as other cash prizes up to €5,000 also being up for grabs. The odds of winning the jackpot were also revealed, which was reported to be around 1.2billion to one. To put this into perspective, the odds of winning the Lotto here are said to be 10.7million to one, and the odds of winning the EuroMillions come in at 139.8million to one. With National Lottery, you are only permitted to purchase 10 scratch cards within one transaction, but is unclear how many you can buy with Ryanair. The company has been asked to comment on the claims made.

Influencer slams Kate Moss' 'overpriced' Glastonbury-inspired Zara range

Sustainable fashion editor, Dr Brett Staniland, is calling out the festival-inspired collection by Kate Moss and Zara for being "overpriced" and "plastic" - and says Gen Z won't be interested A sustainable fashion influencer is calling out Kate Moss and Zara for trying to 'cheat-code' their way into a festival edit - completely missing the point of festival dressing. The new collection is 'overpriced' and 'plastic' according to Dr Brett Staniland, who has accused Zara of haute-washing. Haute-washing - in the vein of green-washing - is an attempt by fast fashion companies to use marketing and aesthetics to project a muddled sense of craftsmanship to consumers. ‌ Kate Moss partnered with Zara for a second-time, launching a festival-inspired collection on the heels of Glastonbury. The collection features waistcoats, a silk print dress, camisoles, and shorts. ‌ Moss' Glastonbury style - much like Alexa Chung's - was era-defining, but Dr Staniland has claimed that Zara is using the famous icon to cover up a low-effort and plastic-heavy collection. Dr Staniland - known better as TwinBrett on social media - took to TikTok to share his take on the new collection. He told his 31.3k followers that the collection 'continues Zara's and the rest of fast fashion's 'haute-washing'; using high-end people and aesthetics to appear more luxury than they are.' Many companies doubled-down their investment in high-fashion models and aesthetic rebrands to monopolise on the 'quiet luxury' trend - without actually investing in exceptional craftsmanship or materials. 'I have no idea who they're designing this for,' says Dr Staniland. 'Gen Z not only don't really care for this style, but I'd even suggest that the name Kate Moss isn't that interesting to them.' ‌ He also cites that the core of festival dressing is about thrifting and re-wearing items from years prior. 'It's not a glam fest for the majority of festival goers outside of the VIP ropes, so I doubt people will be spending money on these types of clothes," he said. Not only does the collection miss the mark in terms of festival fashion, but its woefully lacking on the sustainability scale. 'The truth is, plastic weaves its way all the way through this collection' Dr Staniland says, calling out the 'silk' and lace shorts from the collection which are made of only 17% silk and have a 100% polyester lining. ‌ The collection is composed of 'overpriced, plastic, fast-fashion items' says Dr Staniland, who calls it a 'blatant cash-grab' for both Kate Moss and Zara who think they have 'cheat-coded their way to easy sales'. The Mirror has reached out to Zara about Dr Staniland's claims. Dr Staniland's advises those looking to get festival-inspired clothes to explore the second-hand market. Ahead of Glastonbury, The Mirror heard from veteran thrifters to understand how they curate their festival looks. Experienced thrift-shopper, Evie McCarthy, 24, from West Sussex reveals she enjoys wearing a mix of second-hand gems and custom pieces she has upcycled herself. Evie says: 'My favourite items of clothing in my wardrobe have come from the Glastonbury Oxfam shops.' Help us improve our content by completing the survey below. We'd love to hear from you!

My boyfriend is 27 years older than me - people say our relationship is disgusting and I'm only in it for money but they're just jealous

A young woman who is dating a man twice her age has hit back at people criticising her relationship. Sass, 27, from London took to social media to reveal the romance with her 'silver fox' boyfriend, who is 54. The self-described 'spoiled girlfriend' enjoys a luxury lifestyle with her much older boyfriend, regularly jetting off for sun-soaked holidays and skiing holidays together. Sass often shares scenes of her glamorous life on TikTok, where she has 3,500 followers, but more recently she's been criticised for dating someone so much older. The content creator recently opened up about their romance online, posting a picture of the two snuggled together alongside a caption revealing their years of birth - 1970 and 1997 respectively. People in the comments have blasted what they described as their 'disgusting' relationship and urged her to choose 'self-respect over money'. But Sass said she couldn't be happier and has defended her boyfriend, describing him as 'highly educated, emotionally intelligent, financially secure, a great personality.' Hitting back at the hate comments, Sass said their relationship was 'supportive and happy' despite the 27 year age gap. 'His family are lovely! If you know us as individuals, us as a couple makes sense. Those we know in real life understand, are supportive and happy for us,' she said. Responding to hateful comments, she said she 'doesn't date younger like the majority of women'. She said the negative comments were 'unfortunate' but insisted she wasn't letting them get in the way of their blossoming romance. 'It is unfortunate but I'm having fun. I'm not letting them get to me because they literally don't know anything about me or my partner,' she said. Her family don't mind the relationship - though she said she would date her 'silver fox' regardless of their input. 'My family are chill and even if they weren't, it's me that has to live with my decisions. I'm happy with my life,' she said. Sass's partner supplies her with a steady stream of gifts, recently unboxing a brand new pair of of Louboutin's worth several thousand pounds. The couple enjoy five-star holidays, staying only at the most expensive hotels and dining on Michelin star menus. However, some didn't see the happy side of their romance, accusing Sass of 'using him for money' while others denied the pair were truly in love. One wrote: 'It's better to date a man that's a bit older but a 27 year gap though? Come on, it's a lifestyle choice - you can just admit you want a soft life provided to you.' A second remarked: 'My dad was born in 1977 and me in 1994 if they're old enough to be your parent it's not right sorry.' 'Nah, it's about money,' another wrote while a fourth told her to seek 'self-respect over money'. In one tongue-in-cheek 'get ready with me' video, Sass helped cut her boyfriend's hair and said, 'contrary to popular belief, I'm the one that groomed him'. However, others urged them to 'ignore the haters', sharing their similar stories of dating older men. One wrote: 'Trust me girl, you are in winning strike, people think younger woman go for older men for money, there is more wisdom to an older man, and not to mention the way they treat their younger woman is the exact way a real woman want to be treated.' She said the negative comments were 'unfortunate' but insisted she wasn't letting them get in the way of their blossoming romance A second said: 'I don't even know why people are mad. It's giving financial security.' Another remarked: 'People are projecting in the comment section. Two grown adults with mental capacity to make decisions. meaning, the both know what they want and if they're happy with each are you to judge them. 'Just because you wouldn't be in such age gap relationship doesn't mean the rest of the world wouldn't.' And things appear to going well for the couple, with Sass light-heartedly telling her followers to 'expect your invites soon' - appearing to refer to a potential wedding.
