Texans QB C.J. Stroud dealing with a 'minor shoulder muscle' issue at OTAs
C.J. Stroud hasn't practiced since the start of organized team activities, and now fans have a better understanding of why.
According to KPRC 2 Sports' Aaron Wilson, Stroud is dealing with a minor shoulder muscle issue. The injury isn't regarded as a long-term issue and it is expected that Stroud could return to increased activity at practice as soon as next week.
Since OTAs are a more relaxed feel than training camp in August, the Texans are taking caution with the former NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year as he begins to prep for a breakout third season. With Stroud sidelined, backup quarterback Davis Mills has seen most of the reps with the first- and second-team while Kedon Slovis has worked with the third-team.
Texans coach DeMeco Ryans downplayed Stroud's activity level on Wednesday and emphasized players' routines will vary widely day to day. First-year offensive coordinator Nick Caley addressed the former No. 2 overall pick's absence, but also mentioned he wasn't concerned with the limitations during drills.
'He's locked in every step of the way,' Caley said Friday afternoon. 'No concerns whatsoever. I know DeMeco has already hit on this. Everybody has a specific routine relative to their own routine, specific to whatever. Whether it's football, whether it's athletic training, etc., he's doing a great job and he's out here and he's working.'
After a sophomore slump, Stroud enters Year 3 with a chance to cash in. He's up for a new deal this offseason and could become one of the league's highest-paid passers with a promising campaign.
The former Ohio State Heisman runner-up is being tasked with more responsibility and trust to orchestrate the Texans' offense under Caley. He'll be allowed to maked adjustments before the snap and change the play call or audible a new protection scheme with Caley calling the shots.
'It's like anything else,' Caley said. 'The more you can do, the better off you're going to end up being. He wants to have the ability to be able to have control. When you're at that position there is a lot of great value in being able to fix problems that come up or unscouted looks that come up."
The Texans return for OTA workouts on Tuesday at the Methodist Training Center.

Kirk Herbstreit ‘not a fan' of open fandom from ESPN colleague Elle Duncan — who claps back at him
Elle Duncan didn't appreciate catching a stray from her ESPN colleague earlier this week. During a podcast appearance on 'Net Positive with John Crist,' 'College Gameday' panelist Kirk Herbstreit sounded off on sports broadcasters who can't hide their fandom, mentioning Duncan, who is a die-hard Georgia Bulldogs fan, as an example of what not to do behind the mic. 'If you are a personality, like a Bill Simmons, or a Pat McAfee or a Stephen A. Smith… part of their schtick is kind of that… That's why Ohio State fans probably don't care for me, I treat Ohio State like any other team,' Herbstreit said during the interview. Adam Cairns/Columbus Dispatch / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images 'It might be different if you're in the studio, but if you're calling games and let's say you're an Alabama fan — and I'm calling an Ohio State-Alabama game — how the hell can you take what I say seriously if I'm saying, 'We, almost caught…' I would never do that. I don't think you can cheer when you do games on a national level… You watch 'SportsCenter' and Elle Duncan is sitting there cheering for Georgia, openly cheering. I'm not a fan of that personally. I think it hurts your credibility…' Duncan, who has been a 'SportsCenter' anchor since 2016, was seemingly caught off guard by Herbstreit's comments. Advertisement 'Didn't have this on my bingo card for today but my fandom doesn't impact in any way what or how we talk about teams on air. Ever. I… Also **whispers** I'm not the only one. So why I get singled out?' Duncan wrote on X on Friday. Elle Duncan is seen leaving her hotel on the way to the Disney Upfronts 2025 on May 13, 2025 in New York City. GC Images Despite his views on objectivity in sports media, Herbstreit admitted that he got emotional after his alma mater, Ohio State, won the football national championship in January. Advertisement 'Don't start with me,' Herbstreit said when Scott Van Pelt asked him a question on 'SportsCenter' after the Buckeyes' win over Notre Dame. 'I'm a little emotional. I'm just fired up for these guys. When I call these games, I'm incredibly objective. I love all of these Ohio State teams, but this team, because of what they went through to get to this point, you're just happy.' Herbstreit has also recently been defensive over Ohio State head coach Ryan Day and the football program, which has previously struggled to get over the hump on the big stage.

Georgia nabs commitment from 2026 4-star over Ohio State
The post Georgia nabs commitment from 2026 4-star over Ohio State appeared first on ClutchPoints. Georgia football is ending an epic June by topping Ohio State for a four-star recruit. The Bulldogs secured one more college football recruiting win before the calendar flips to July. Advertisement Georgia landed elite 6-foot-4, 260-pound defensive lineman PJ Dean Monday. Hayes Fawcett of On3 shared the Buckeyes were in the final running. So was Georgia's Southeastern Conference rival South Carolina. But Dean fired off this message after committing. 'A dawg always finds his way home,' he shared via Fawcett. Dean adds to a fast-growing 2026 recruiting class in Athens. Again, head coach Kirby Smart and his staff are aggressively putting a bow on their '26 class for the summer. Especially with universities everywhere getting the green light to host official visits in June now. Georgia grabbed new accolade on recruiting trail Joshua L. Johnson arrived to Georgia Sunday before Dean's decision. Johnson enters the class as the nation's top-ranked defensive lineman. But that handed UGA this new claim per Fawcett. 'Georgia is the only school to land TWO No. 1 Ranked Recruits at their respective positions in the '26 Class,' Fawcett posted on X (formerly known as Twitter). That's because quarterback Jared Curtis became the first five-star pledged to Georgia. Curtis chose the Bulldogs in May. However, one SEC rival caught up to the Bulldogs on the five-star end. Alabama now boasts a national-best three five-star commits as of Monday. Xavier Griffin boosted the Crimson Tide class by choosing 'Bama Sunday. The linebacker even heads to Tuscaloosa as a former USC commit. But Griffin additionally becomes an in-state loss for Smart and and the Bulldogs — because he hails from nearby Gainesville, Georgia. Advertisement But Georgia is still putting together stout results on the trail. Including beating Texas and Michigan for four-star Chace Calicut. Fellow four-star wide receiver Craig Dandridge turned down three SEC rivals for the Bulldogs.
