on Sunday over a notice issued to Banga Bhawan in the national capital seeking help to translate "Bangladeshi language" for an ongoing trial. The trial relates to eight suspected illegal immigrants from Bangladesh who had been arrested by Lodhi Colony police.
The CM called the notice, "Scandalous, insulting, anti-national, unconstitutional," and called upon all sections of society to rise in protest against the repeated "insult and humiliation" of Bengali-speaking people in India.
The notice, posted by CM on her X handle, showed a Lodhi Colony inspector's requisition to Banga Bhavan officer-in-charge in Chanakyapuri, seeking help to translate "texts written in Bangladeshi language" in Hindi and English.

"See now how Delhi Police under the direct control of the Ministry of Home, Government of India is describing Bengali as "Bangladeshi" language!" the CM wrote.
"Bengali, our mother tongue, the language of Rabindranath Tagore and Swami Vivekananda, the language in which our National Anthem and the National Song (the latter by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay) are written, the language in which crores of Indians speak and write, the language which is sanctified and recognised by the Constitution of India, is now described as a Bangladeshi language!!"
The notice uploaded by CM Banerjee refers to Lodhi Colony police station FIR no 51/2025.

Case details mention eight suspected illegal Bangladeshis being arrested. According to the police, the accused did not have valid passports or visas.
Police said the suspects were in possession of copies of IDs such as bank account information and birth certificates. The suspects are currently in jail on the basis of a court order, police said.
The notice uploaded by the CM read: "The identification documents contain texts written in Bangladeshi and need to be translated into Hindi and English.
Now, for the investigation to proceed further, it is requested that an official translator/interpreter proficient in the Bangladeshi national language may be provided for the aforesaid purpose." The notice promises to pay for translation bills.
CM Banerjee said, "This insults all Bengali speaking people of India. They cannot use this kind of language which degrades and debases us all. We urge immediate strongest possible protests from all against the anti-Bengali Govt of India who are using such anti-Constitutional language to insult and humiliate the Bengali-speaking people of India."
Abhishek Banerjee, Trinamool's national general secretary, also protested the notice, writing on X: "This is not a mere clerical error, it is yet another calculated attempt by BJP to defame Bengal, undermine our cultural identity and equate West Bengal with Bangladesh for narrow political propaganda."
"It is a direct violation of Article 343 and the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. There is no language called 'Bangladeshi'. To call Bangla a foreign language is not just an insult — it's an attack on our identity, culture and belonging. Bengalis are not outsiders in their own homeland," he added.
Singer Rupam Islam too spoke out against the notice. "What is this? Isn't Bangla one of the 22 official languages of India? Why must it be mentioned as Bangladeshi language? Height of ignorance and stupidity," he wrote on X.

Gurgaon: A liquor shop named "Court Complex Liquor Vend" in Sonipat was ordered to relocate by a court that termed the nomenclature "disparaging" to the institution of justice. In a strongly worded order, the court said, "Identifying the court complex with a liquor shop is not only undignified vis-à-vis the sanctity attached to the court, commonly called the 'Temple of Justice', but it severely impairs the honour attached to the institution of judiciary." Further investigation revealed that the vend had not obtained necessary permission from local authorities — as required under the excise policy. On July 18, the court ordered the shop to be sealed. The vend owners later produced the required permissions and proposed relocating the shop to Old Sonipat Road. After the excise department issued an NOC, the court allowed the shop to remove stocks and facilitate the relocation on Aug 2. The vend has since been moved to its new location on Old Sonipat Road.

2 drivers found dead in a parked car, CO poisoning suspected
Noida: Two cab drivers were found dead inside a parked car near National Institute of Biology in Sector 62 on Monday afternoon, with police suspecting carbon monoxide poisoning as the cause of death. The bodies of Sachin Sharma (27) and Lakshmi Shankar (50) — both residents of Khoda Colony in Ghaziabad — were discovered after family members broke the car's window. The families of the two drivers — friends for almost a decade — started looking for them after they did not return home on Sunday night. "They searched for them all night without success. Calls to Sachin's mobile phone went unanswered as well. Around 2pm on Monday, locals informed the family about Sachin's car parked near a private institution," a senior police officer told TOI. Guruji had jokingly said: "The condition of this chopper is bad and it can crash on the way. I am old now and it doesn't matter if I perish in a crash. He is a young man and he should not take the risk." The autumn of the patriarch began in 1995 when his eldest son Durga Soren won the Jama assembly seat. He started calling the shots within the party. He died in 2009. After Durga's death, his younger brother Hemant Soren took over as the successor of Guruji. This led to family feud as Durga's widow Sita Soren was unhappy with Hemant's move. She later joined BJP, but lost Jama assembly polls to JMM Candidate Lois Marandi in 2024 assembly polls. Guruji slowly started to keep himself out of the limelight. On April 15, 2025, Hemant became party president, replacing Shibu. It can be said to be the end of Shibu era in JMM. But Guruji was and will remain the biggest crowd-puller for JMM in days to come. He did not actively campaigned for the party in 2024 assembly polls, but JMM flags with his familiar face and bow and arrow party symbol, kept fluttering in remote areas of the state. JMM formed government in the state later, reminding people that his charisma remained intact.
