In 2013, James Howells was just an ordinary IT worker in Newport, South Wales, doing what most of us do, tidying up his office space. What he didn't realise at the time was that his routine clean-up would accidentally toss away a hard drive holding 8,000 Bitcoins, as per a report. Back then, those Bitcoins were worth $8 million, and today, that same digital wallet is valued at around $742 million, as per Daily Galaxy report. That single mistake turned Howells' life into a treasure hunt for more than a decade, and now after 12 years, his story is being turned into a docuseries and is set to be released in late 2025, as per the report.A Los Angeles-based production company called LEBUL has bought the rights to tell Howells' story in a new docuseries, podcast, and short-form content named 'The Buried Bitcoin: The Real-Life Treasure Hunt of James Howells," reported BBC.Howells had mined the Bitcoins in the early days of cryptocurrency, but like many at the time, he didn't fully grasp the value of what he had. The private key to the fortune was stored on a hard drive that ended up in a Newport landfill—lost under tonnes of trash, according to Daily Galaxy report. As Bitcoin's value skyrocketed, so did Howells' determination to recover what he'd lost, but it was not easy to dig up the landfill to find his hard drive, according to the report. However, Howells didn't just sit back and mourn his loss, he made plans for high-tech solutions, including AI-powered drones and robotic systems, to safely search the landfill without causing environmental damage, reported Daily Galaxy. He had even offered to fund the project himself and asked just for the Newport City Council's permission to access the landfill, but the permission never came, according to the report.Local officials denied permission due to the potential dangers of disturbing the landfill, which could cause the release of toxic gases and the contamination of water sources, reported Daily Galaxy.By 2024, his fight had reached its final chapter in court as a British judge ruled his recovery efforts had 'no realistic prospect' of success, as per the report. The judge also had highlighted many factors that made the case untenable, like the condition of the hard drive after more than a decade of exposure to moisture, pressure, and extreme temperatures, as per Daily Galaxy. After the ruling, his search came to an official end.It was tossed into a landfill in Newport, South Wales, where it remains buried under tons of waste.A docuseries titled 'The Buried Bitcoin' is in production by LEBUL, along with a podcast and short-form content.

Delhi-based venture capital fund raises stake in this LIC-owned NBFC stock. Check details

LIC-owned stock: Shares of Paisalo Digital snapped their three-day winning run on Friday, July 25, even as Equilibrated Venture CFlow acquired a stake in the company. The selloff in the Indian stock market and profit booking after a stellar run over the last few days likely promoted a decline in the small-cap stock, which is part of Life Insurance Corporation of India's (LIC) portfolio. According to a filing shared by Paisalo Digital, the Delhi-based venture capitalist Equilibrated Venture CFlow acquired 74,70,000 shares of the company via the open market, representing a 0.82% stake. The stake was acquired by the company on July 24 and July 25, as per the filing. With this, Equilibrated Venture CFlow's stake in the LIC-owned NBFC stock rose to 16.50% from 15.67% earlier. According to the latest shareholding pattern filed by the company earlier this month, LIC owns a 1.12% stake or 77,59,511 shares. Another PSU life insurer, SBI Life Insurance, holds an 8.96% stake. The small-cap NBFC stock also remained in focus this entire week following the announcement of its Q1 results for FY26 and dividend record date.

Sundar Pichai's Net Worth Hits $1.1 Billion After Alphabets Market Surge

Alphabet Inc.'s continued rally on the stock market has delivered a windfall not only for investors but also for its CEO, Sundar Pichai, who has now crossed the $1 billion net worth milestone. The 53-year-old, originally from Tamil Nadu, has seen his fortune rise to $1.1 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. This financial leap is driven largely by the surge in Alphabet's stock, which has soared over 120% since early 2023, adding over $1 trillion to the company's market capitalisation, reported Bloomberg. Unlike tech titans such as Meta's Mark Zuckerberg or Nvidia's Jensen Huang, who built their wealth through founding equity, Mr Pichai's ascent is distinct. He joined Google, now Alphabet's main subsidiary, in 2004, long after its 1998 founding. His early work on Chrome and Android laid the groundwork for his elevation to CEO in 2015. It was the same year Google restructured under the Alphabet umbrella. He was named the Alphabet CEO in 2019. Earlier this month, Mr Pichai became the company's longest-serving chief executive, completing nearly a decade at the helm. In Tamil Nadu, Mr Pichai's family lived in a two-room flat. They didn't have a car and only had a telephone when he was 12. In 1993, when he secured a scholarship to Stanford University, his parents spent over $1,000, more than his father's annual income, to buy a plane ticket to the US. 'One of the first things I did as CEO was to pivot the company to be focused on AI,' Mr Pichai told Bloomberg in an October 2024 interview. Alphabet has increased its investment in artificial intelligence under his leadership. An important turning point in the company's AI development was the $400-million acquisition of London-based DeepMind in 2014. Since then, Pichai has overseen a sharp rise in investment, with Alphabet spending close to $50 billion last year alone on AI infrastructure. The company released its second-quarter results in July 2025 that surpassed analyst projections. Alphabet shares climbed by 4.1% following the earnings announcement. It also disclosed a 16% rise in research and development spending. 'Our AI infrastructure investments are crucial to meeting the growth in demand for cloud customers,' Mr Pichai said on a July 23 call with analysts following the results release. Mr Pichai holds only 0.02% of Alphabet's stock, presently worth about $440 million. The rest of his wealth is primarily in cash, having offloaded over $650 million worth of stock in the past decade. Bloomberg estimates that his holdings would now be worth over $2.5 billion had he held on to all his shares.

Film on Mother Teresa by Macedonian director to premiere at Venice Film festival

Kolkata, Jul 25 (PTI) Acclaimed Macedonian director Teona Strugar Mitevska's film 'Mother', inspired by the life of Mother Teresa and partially shot in the city, will be premiered at the upcoming 82nd International Venice Film Festival. 'Mother', the seventh feature film by the Brussels-based, Macedonian filmmaker has Swedish actress Noomi Rapace playing the role of Mother Teresa, who later became Saint Teresa in a canonisation ceremony years after her death. The film festival will be held between August 27 and September 6. The film focuses on a brief period of her life, a few weeks after the end of World War II, before the nun founded her own congregation, the Missionaries of Charity and captures the period of 1948 in Kolkata.. A substantial part of the film was shot in the city in 2024 across the iconic Howrah bridge and locations like Kumartuli, Kalighat, Entally, Loreto Convent, where Mother had taught once, Prateek Bagi, one of the co-producers of the film, said on Friday. Having an international collaboration, the film is produced by several stakeholders – Sebastien Delloye for Entre Chien et Loup (Belgium), Sisters and Brother Mitevski (Macedonia), Vuk Mitevski and Labina Mitevska, Rainy Days in Sweden, Frau film in Denmark and Raging Film in India. Bagi recalled that the film crew was happy with the shooting experience in Kolkata, and the administration and local federation of cine technicians extended all help. 'The director thanked the office of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the administration, among others, for their help and promised to come back to the city for future projects," he said. Apart from Bagi, SRFTI alumnus and co-founder of Raging Films, Shaunak Sur, was associated with the film and its shoots in the city. The film 'Mother' by director Mitevska will have the honour of opening the Orizzonti section on the first competition day of this year's Venice Film Festival, the festival directorate said. 'The Orizzonti selection at the 82nd Venice Film Festival, which will open this year with the Macedonian film 'Mother', is intended for films that introduce new aesthetic and expressive directions in contemporary cinematography. Works with an innovative approach in storytelling, visual style and film language are particularly valued," it said. The film is in the competitive section.. This is the third time that Teona Strugar Mitevska has presented her film in the official programme of the Venice Film Festival. The producers of Mother said the director was enamoured by the amazing story of Mother Teresa's life. The director was born in Skopje in North Macedonia like her. She had initially wanted to make a documentary 'Theresa and Me', a project funded by the Macedonian Radio and Television and came to the city in 2010-11 for the first time. But as she came across more amazing facts of Mother's life during research, the script for a full-length feature film was developed, and she again came with the cast and crew in 2024, the producers said. The Orizzonti section, dedicated to showcasing innovative and emerging trends in global cinema, presents a lineup featuring both established stars and rising directorial talent, the festival directorate said.
