Sultan Mizan Graces Groundbreaking Of Uitm Bukit Besi Mosque
DUNGUN, June 26 (Bernama) -- Sultan of Terengganu, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin, today officiated the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a mosque at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Bukit Besi Campus.
Also in attendance were the Yang Dipertuan Muda of Terengganu Tengku Muhammad Ismail and Tengku Sri Setia Mahkota Raja Tengku Datuk Seri Muhammad Mu'az.
Their Highnesses were received by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, State Secretary Datuk Zulkifli Ali and other dignitaries.
UiTM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Shahrin Sahib said the mosque, to be named Pusat Hidayah, will be developed in three phases, with the first phase estimated to cost RM2 million.
He said the waqf-based project is funded through public contributions, with RM2 million raised since 2018. Phase one will include a prayer hall and an imam's room, with subsequent phases to follow once more funds are secured.
'Construction on the 0.61-hectare site is expected to begin soon and phase one is targeted for completion in 2027,' he told reporters after the ceremony.
The mosque, which can accommodate 1,500 worshippers, will serve 774 UiTM students and residents of Kampung Besol, as the nearest mosque is five kilometres away.
In the interim, the student hostel lobby, surrounding recreation areas and landscaped spaces are being used for prayers.
Once fully completed, the mosque will also serve as a centre for religious learning, community service, and the promotion of positive values among students and nearby residents.

KUANTAN, June 29 (Bernama) -- A total of 300 asnaf (eligible zakat recipients) in Beserah received food baskets worth RM60,000 in conjunction with the Indera Mahkota Al-Falah MADANI Carnival 2025 today. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar said his department also contributed RM100,000 in Musa'adah assistance to 17 religious institutions in Pahang, in addition to 10,000 school bags and supplies for students statewide. CITY HALL's (DBKK) new initiative to offer RM2 for every rat caught as part of a year-long rodent control campaign may seem like a creative solution, but it ultimately raises more questions than confidence. While the campaign, launched at the Central Market, aims to curb infestations and prevent diseases like leptospirosis, the idea of monetising pest control feels more reactive than strategic. Rats in urban areas are not just a nuisance — they're a symptom of deeper, systemic issues: poor waste management, unsanitary conditions and lack of consistent enforcement on cleanliness in public spaces. Offering financial incentives might lead to short-term reduction in rodent sightings, but it also opens the door to unintended consequences. Could people begin catching rats elsewhere just to profit from the scheme? Worse, might this distract from the city's responsibility to maintain hygiene standards year-round? What happens after July 31? The rats will be back unless the root problems are fixed. Cleanliness cannot be reduced to a seasonal campaign or one-off public clean-up — it requires long-term planning, daily upkeep, and stronger enforcement. City Hall's intentions may be good, but cleanliness should not depend on RM2 rewards It should be ingrained in daily operations and upheld through consistent infrastructure improvements, education, and accountability.
