Marcus Rashford in Barcelona as loan move from Manchester United nears completion
The move to Barcelona is another chance for Rashford to revive his career. He was considered one of the foremost young talents in Europe at the time that he broke out of seemingly nowhere under Louis Van Gaal's stewardship in 2016. Spanish media said the one-year loan agreement with United would give Barcelona an option to buy Rashford for about 30 million euros ($35 million).
Barcelona had the best attack in Spanish football and one of the most prolific across Europe last season, but had been trying to add another piece to the frontline to go along with young star Lamine Yamal, Raphinha and veteran Robert Lewandowski.
Rashford has scored 138 goals in 429 appearances and won five trophies, including two FA Cups and the Europa League. With his career coinciding with Manchester United's fall since the retirement of Alex Ferguson in 2013, Rashford has never really come close to winning the English Premier League or the Champions League. He also struggled to consistently live up to the hype that surrounded him when he burst onto the scene as a teenager in 2016 – only managing 20 goals or more in three seasons. In his last two seasons at United he scored a combined 15 goals and added another four in 17 games on loan at Villa.
Barcelona won the Spanish league title with 102 goals, 24 more than runner-up Real Madrid. The Catalan club also led the Champions League in goals with 43, five more than champion Paris Saint-Germain, before being eliminated by Inter Milan in the semifinals.

London, July 22 (UNI) Crystal Palace have submitted an appeal against their demotion from the Europa League to the Conference League with the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The appeal is against Uefa, which issued the punishment, French club Lyon and Premier League rivals Nottingham Forest. The Eagles were punished for breaching multi-club ownership rules as American businessman John Textor owns a stake in the club and is the majority owner of Lyon, who have also qualified for the Europa League. Forest, who finished seventh in the Premier League last season, are expected replace FA Cup winners Palace in the Europa League should the punishment stand. In their appeal Palace have requested an annulment of the decision by Uefa's financial control body and readmission to the Europa League in place of either Forest or Lyon. A decision is expected on or before August 11, with the Europa League group stage beginning on September 24. The rules of European football's governing body state that clubs owned, to a certain threshold of influence, by the same person or entity cannot compete in the same European competition. Uefa's rules set a deadline of March 1, 2025 to show proof of multi-club ownership restructuring - a deadline Palace missed, according to a BBC news. Palace argued Textor does not hold any decisive influence at the club, but Uefa did not accept the Premier League club's defence. Speaking to The Rest is Football podcast last week, Palace chairman Steve Parish said he was "very hopeful" the decision would be overturned. "We don't think this is the right decision by any means. We know, unequivocally, that John [Textor] didn't have decisive influence over the club," he said. "We know we proved that beyond all reasonable doubt because it's a fact." UNI BM

Premier League club Crystal Palace has appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport against UEFA's decision to remove it from the Europa League over alleged breaches of multi-club ownership regulations, the CAS said on Tuesday. Palace was demoted to the Conference League, the third-tier European competition, by UEFA's Club Financial Control Body (CFCB) this month because John Textor, president of the Eagle Football Group, majority owners of Olympique Lyonnais, also has a controlling stake in Palace. Ligue 1 club Lyon, which also qualified for the second-tier continental competition, were allowed to compete. Palace, however, missed the March deadline to comply with the multi-club ownership rules before winning the FA Cup in May to earn their place in European competition. Nottingham Forest, which finished seventh in the Premier League, will replace Palace in the Europa League if its appeal fails.
