'Aside from commemorating SCC's journey over seven decades since 1955, this celebration also serves as a platform to set a brighter future direction, in line with the changes in the economic and technological landscape,' said George during his speech at the Alamesra Customer Centre, on Monday. According to him, SCC is not only providing financing but is also committed to guiding entrepreneurs in financial management, loan application processes and leveraging business opportunities to enhance competitiveness. 'Through the SME Empowerment Programme, we are determined to help create more successful local entrepreneurs, thereby strengthening the economic resilience of the state,' he said. In the Customer Engagement Day programme, SCC offered customers the opportunity to interact directly, share opinions, ask questions, and make suggestions to improve service quality. 'Customer feedback is crucial for SCC to continue innovating and ensuring that our services remain relevant and meet the current needs of the people of Sabah,' George said. The Eid al-Fitr Celebration, also held as part of this programme, reflects SCC's strong relationship with its customers, strategic partners, and the community, as well as fostering a spirit of unity. George reaffirmed that SCC is committed to continuing as a key driver of the State's socio-economic development by empowering the entrepreneurial sector, expanding financing access and adapting to new technologies in its services. 'We will ensure that each initiative is inclusive, fair, and focused on the well-being of the people for the benefit of future generations,' he said, while expressing gratitude to everyone involved in making the programme a success. * Follow us on Instagram and join our Telegram and/or WhatsApp channel(s) for the latest news you don't want to miss. * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Political stability drives Malaysia's MADANI government success

KUALA LUMPUR: The MADANI Government's success in achieving political stability has been the main driver enabling comprehensive policies that directly benefit the people, says Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said. She emphasised that this stability has allowed the government to achieve strong economic growth while ensuring that progress translates into real support for citizens. 'This has been made possible following the implementation of MADANI policies and programmes aimed at good and principled governance,' she said in a statement on Facebook. Azalina urged all parties to maintain unity and focus on national development for the wellbeing of Malaysia and its people. Her remarks followed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's recent 'Appreciation for the People' initiatives, which include cash aid, postponed toll hikes, and fuel price reductions. The minister also attended the weekly Cabinet meeting chaired by Anwar at Perdana Putra in Putrajaya. The session included Deputy Prime Ministers Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, alongside other senior officials. Among the newly announced measures is a one-off RM100 cash assistance under the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) programme, a fuel subsidy adjustment lowering RON95 prices to RM1.99 per litre, and an additional public holiday on September 15 for Malaysia Day. - Bernama

Water filter refund claim thrown out

Published on: Friday, July 25, 2025 Published on: Fri, Jul 25, 2025 By: Crystal E Hermenegildus Text Size: The Tribunal accepted the respondent's position and noted that the Claimant had fully utilised the product since 2016, and had received all the agreed maintenance services up to this point. Kota Kinabalu: The Consumer Claims Tribunal has dismissed a claim by a man seeking continued maintenance or a full refund for a water filter that has since been discontinued by the manufacturer. Tribunal President Salmi Zalinah Abdul Rahim ruled that the manufacturer, Coway Malaysia Sdn Bhd, was not contractually obligated to continue servicing the product beyond the stated service period, especially after production and spare parts had ceased. The Claimant had purchased a Coway Villaem water filter on December 23, 2016, under a five-year instalment plan with monthly payments of RM125. After completing his payment contract, he continued subscribing to annual maintenance services, paying RM693 per year until the agreed maintenance period expiry on March 31, 2025. However, the claimant was informed by Coway that the periodic maintenance service for his unit would no longer be available after that date, as the Villaem model and its replacement parts were no longer in production. Dissatisfied, he filed a claim demanding either: the respondent continue the maintenance service for his existing unit, or the Respondent Coway refund him the full price of the water filter and accept its return so that he could purchase a new one. In response, Coway informed the Tribunal that the Villaem model had been discontinued since September 6, 2019, and spare parts would only be supplied while stocks lasted. It explained that the model had been replaced with the Villaem II in March 2019, and more recently by the Villaem III in December 2024. The respondent also referred to the terms and conditions of its Service Application Membership Form, which states that while it will make 'best effort' attempts to continue maintenance services after discontinuing a product, it is under no obligation to do so beyond a reasonable period, and customers are not entitled to damages or compensation if services cannot be sustained. The Tribunal accepted the respondent's position and noted that the Claimant had fully utilised the product since 2016, and had received all the agreed maintenance services up to this point. In her ruling, Salmi said it would not be reasonable for the Claimant to expect a full refund for a product that had been used extensively over a number of years. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
