Amid Chhangur Baba's Shock, These UP Muslim Women Defy Norms To Marry Lovers In Temple
Swaleheen and Noorfatima decided to accept Sanatan Dharma, along with changing their names to Shalini and Neelam to marry Hindu men.
In Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, two Muslim women chose to change their faith and start a new life as Hindus by marrying Hindu men. Swaleheen and Noorfatima decided to accept Sanatan Dharma, and held their wedding ceremonies at the Arya Samaj Temple in Hapur, earlier this week. After their conversion, Swaleheen became Shalini and married Amit Kumar, while Noorfatima took the name Neelam and married Gaurav Kumar. Videos of the wedding celebrations, which were held according to Hindu rituals, have been circulating on social media
As per Amar Ujala, Shalini, a resident of Katghar, Moradabad said she had been in love with Amit for a long time. But as her family didn't accept their relationship, she stayed silent. She now fears for her safety and claims her family could harm her. Neelam, on the other hand, from Bhojpur, shared that she loves Gaurav and chose to convert on her own. Both women have said that their decisions were made willingly.
Reacting to the post, a user wrote, 'Not a good thing to share their video and whereabouts if they are under threat."
Another shared, 'Hope they are protected always and do not leave a forwarding address. Hope they have lots of kids and are happy till eternity."
'If Love is making them safe in life, then Love should not look at any religion. Obviously, Sanatan is Best," a comment read.
One more added, 'It's their personal choice. They are adults. No one should have any say other than the two adults marrying each other, it's simple."
So far, there has been no major controversy related to their marriages. But the local police are on alert to make sure everything remains peaceful. This extra care has been taken because Moradabad has a nearly equal number of Hindu and Muslim residents.
Shalini and Neelam's story comes at a time when there is already attention on the case of Chhangur Baba. He is accused of gaining wealth through illegal activities and was involved in converting Hindu girls by trapping them.

Over 80,000 candidates accept DUs UG seats in 1st round; fee deadline July 23
Agency: PTI New Delhi, Jul 21 (PTI) More than 80,000 candidates have accepted undergraduate seats in the first round of Delhi University's (DU) seat allocation, according to official data released by the university on Monday evening. According to the figures from the Common Seat Allocation System-Undergraduate (CSAS-UG) portal, 80,015 candidates accepted their allocated seats as of 7 pm on July 21. Of them, 31,088 have been approved by college principals and 17,702 have completed fee payment. This year, the university has made 93,166 allocations against 71,624 seats across 69 colleges and 79 undergraduate programmes, indicating that internal movement and reallocations are expected in the subsequent rounds. 'More than 93,000 allocations have been done based on the pattern and requirement of previous years, as many students shuffle their seats from one college to another," a senior DU official told PTI. The CSAS-UG system, which forms the basis of these allocations, factors in CUET-UG scores, candidate preferences and reservation norms. The allocations span various categories, including Unreserved (UR), Other Backward Classes (OBC), Economically Weaker Section (EWS), Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), Sikh Minority, Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD), Kashmiri Migrants, Single Girl Child and Orphan candidates. Under the Single Girl Child category, 1,325 allocations were made, while 259 orphan candidates — 127 females and 132 males — secured seats in the first round. Candidates had until 4:59 pm on July 21 to accept their seats. College-level verification and approval will continue until July 22, with the last date for fee payment set for July 23. In a step towards transparency, the university has allowed candidates to view the minimum allocation scores and ranks for each programme and college. These details are accessible through their dashboards and will also be published on the official admission website. Meanwhile, allocations for performance-based programmes, such as Hindustani Music, Karnataka Music, Percussion Music, Physical Education and Fine Arts, will be conducted in the third round. Candidates seeking admission in these categories have been advised to check the trial schedules on the respective college or department websites. The second round of seat allocation is scheduled to be announced at 5 pm on July 28. The academic session for first-year students will commence on August 1. Muslims greet kanwariyas with refreshments on temple route
Ranchi: As saffron-clad pilgrims marched toward temples on the second Monday of the holy month of Shravan , their journey was made smoother by Muslim volunteers who offered them water, medicines, and refreshments along the route. This annual tradition, now embraced by both communities, is a powerful symbol of unity amidst religious diversity. Volunteers set up stalls at Ranchi's Karbala Chowk, offering water, tea, refreshments, and basic medical aid to tired pilgrims. Aquilur Rahman, general secretary of the Ranchi Central Muharram Committee, said, "Religion teaches us compassion. We are not just helping Shiva devotees but nurturing our shared heritage of peace. We have been doing this for the past 10 years during Shravan. The kanwariyas accept whatever we can provide with utmost gratitude." A volunteer at the camp, Parvez Alam, said, "Acts like these bridge gaps and foster understanding. Our initiative exemplifies that the communities are in arms both in times of celebration and crisis. We will set up camps on the remaining two Mondays as well. We pray for everyone's well-being." What stood out was the mutual respect between the communities. Many kanwariyas, surprised yet deeply touched, folded their hands in gratitude and blessed the volunteers. "It's beautiful to see people from different faiths standing together. This is the real India," said a devotee, Vrijesh Pathak. The initiative also received accolades from several senior administrative officials present at the camp, including Ranchi (City) SP Ajit Kumar, (city) DSP K B Raman, DSP and OC of Lower Bazar PS, Dayanand Kumar.

Delhi govt mulling plan to install 150 outdoor air purifiers in Nehru Park
New Delhi, Jul 21 (PTI) Nehru Park may soon become Delhi's first 'clean air zone" with 150 outdoor air purifiers. For the plan to become a reality, it needs the support of 80-90 per cent of the residents. On Sunday, the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) launched a three-day survey in Nehru Park to gauge public opinion. The survey asks citizens: 'Would you like to have an air purifier in your park?" Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said that as promised earlier, local residents are being involved in the decision-making process. 'The project will go ahead only if 80-90 per cent of the residents say yes. If only 20-30 per cent respond positively, we will not pursue it," Sirsa told PTI. He said the survey responses will be compiled and the data will directly inform the government's final decision on installing high-efficiency air purifiers across the 85-acre park. This initiative is specifically designed for the public, particularly walkers and joggers, and their participation is being ensured in taking the final decision, he added. The project is being billed as a pilot initiative, the first of its kind, to maintain 'good' air quality even during peak pollution periods. Sirsa said the air purifiers, which are up to 9-ft-tall and filter PM2.5 particulate matter, will be installed throughout the park. Delhi witnesses hazardous pollution levels in winter. In 2023, two smog towers were closed in Delhi after the DPCC termed them ineffective. The new initiative will be implemented in partnership with a private company, Umeandus, under corporate social responsibility. Each purifier, priced around Rs 5 lakh, will cover an area of approximately 600 square metres. Clearance from the New Delhi Municipal Council will be required for the installation of the air purifiers.
