Joe Root is breaking records for fun in the ongoing India-England Test series. The 34-year-old right-handed batter from Yorkshire scored 150 runs for the Ben Stokes-led side in the fourth Test played at Old Trafford from July 23 to 27 and during the process also became the second leading run getter in Test cricket. After breaking multiple batting records in Manchester, Root came to bat at No. 4 for England in the first innings of the ongoing fifth Test at The Oval and scored 29 runs from 45 balls with the help of six fours.
However, during his 29-run knock as well, he broke a couple of batting records. By crossing the 22-run mark in the second session of the second day's play, Root took his tally of runs to 7217 runs in England, which is one more than Sachin Tendulkar's tally of 7126 Test runs in India.
Only Ricky Ponting of Australia has scored more Test runs in one country than Root now.
The legendary captain and right-handed batter played 92 Tests for the Baggy Greens in Australia and amassed a total of 7578 runs with the help of 23 centuries and 38 fifties.
