DMT launches new value housing programme in Abu Dhabi
The initiative, which will be rolled out in strategic phases, aims to improve the living standards for individuals and families alike, strengthening social integration and foster community bonds– which form key elements underpinning the Year of Community.
By ensuring the housing units are both affordable and of exceptional quality, the programme underscores a commitment to cultivating dynamic and inclusive communities.
As part of this effort, DMT signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sdeira Group (formerly KEZAD Communities) to develop a range of residential units and commercial assets. The Group was selected for its strong reputation in Abu Dhabi, with extensive expertise in real estate, investment, and asset management.
DMT has also signed an MoU with Central Holding Group (CHG), a leading investment, asset management, and real estate firm. CHG was chosen for its proven expertise in real estate development, both locally and internationally, mixed with pioneering strategies that integrate cutting-edge technologies across the Group's real estate projects.
By leveraging their extensive global experience, the partnership between DMT and CHG aims to drive collaboration, share knowledge, and amplify the effectiveness and impact of affordable housing across Abu Dhabi.
Commenting on the initiative, Mohamed Ali Al Shorafa, Chairman of DMT, noted that the MoU agreements aim to create vibrant and thriving neighbourhoods that would set new benchmarks for quality and innovation.
'These partnerships underscore our dedication to delivering housing solutions that adhere to our principles of inclusivity and sustainability. They are a crucial step in addressing the growing demand for housing in the Emirate, while improving living standards and providing avenues for everyone to access housing that enhances their well-being,' Al Shorafa said.
Furthermore, the Department is committed to working closely with investors, developers, and partners to identify new opportunities and drive the Value Housing Programme forward. By fostering strategic partnerships, it seeks to drive sustained growth, reshape the real estate sector, and ensure the versatility of Abu Dhabi's housing market by offering diverse options for all segments of society.
These efforts not only support the Emirate's high standards of liveability but have also contributed to Abu Dhabi being recognised as the most liveable city in the MENA region by the Economist Intelligence Unit's (EIU) Global Liveability Index 2024.

It is part of a comprehensive plan to improve the quality of services provided to them, ensuring a safe and comfortable working environment, especially during the hot summer months. It also aligns with the 'Summer Without Accidents' campaign and reflects both entities' commitment to supporting this vital workforce, which is considered a cornerstone of the logistics and delivery sector. The initiative also embodies the values of the 'Year of Community 2025' and underscores the importance of social cohesion and improving the quality of life for all segments of society. The rest stops are equipped with essential amenities to ensure rider comfort, including shaded and air-conditioned areas, comfortable seating, cold drinking water, and charging points for electronic devices. Safety and sustainability elements were also considered in the design, featuring amenities such as fire extinguishers, first aid kits, and dedicated parking areas equipped with tire air pumps. Additionally, both rest stops are environmentally friendly and powered by solar energy, in line with Abu Dhabi's sustainability principles. Nigeria: Real estate overtakes oil as third-largest contributor to Nigeria's GDP — Statistician General
Statistician General of the Federation, Mr. Semiu Adeniran says with the recent rebasing, Nigeria's real estate and sector currently accounts for a substantially larger portion of the country's GDP, increasing from of total GDP to 15.9 percent. Mr. Adeniran disclosed this in Abuja while addressing Stakeholders during the ongoing African International Housing Show (AIHS), with the theme: 'Re-imagining housing through innovation, collaboration and policy'. While stressing the need for urgent need to rethink Africa's housing landscape with fresh ideas, strong partnerships, and effective public policy, Mr. Adeola underscored the 'significance of reliable data in this regard is not in doubt. It guides policy formulation, fosters investor confidence, and supports sustainable solutions to the housing challenges on our continent. 'The housing sector acts as a cornerstone of economic development, creating jobs in construction, manufacturing, retail, finance, and beyond, while directly improving the quality of life for millions of Nigerians. 'With the recent release of the results of the rebasing of Nigeria's GDP, we have achieved a more comprehensive understanding of our economy, with the reference year having shifted to incorporate emerging sectors and capture recent economic dynamics, including the growing importance of real estate and housing within our national output. 'The rebased GDP figures reveal that the real estate sector now accounts for 10.7%, up from 6.2%, while the construction sector now accounts for 5.2% of total GDP. 'Combined, both sectors account for a substantially larger portion of Nigeria's GDP, increasing from 12.4% of total GDP to 15.9%. While this 3.5 percentage points increase may seem like a small increase, in value terms, we are talking about N14.6 trillion naira increase. 'This is highly significant by any measure and reflects the expansion of housing activities, from urban development to infrastructure projects, underscoring the sector's growing influence on national growth. Construction 4.2%, Real estate 7% – 2024. 'Growth in the real estate sector, which essentially involves the buying and selling of properties, including the management of the facilities, outpaced several traditional industries, contributing not only to GDP but also to employment, innovation, and value addition across supply chains. It is now ranked as the 3rd largest contributor to total GDP, overtaking Crude Oil and Natural Gas, due to the heavy involvement of informal operators in this economic activity. 'Nigeria's population has surpassed 200 million, with projections indicating continued rapid growth. The United Nations estimated that by 2050, Nigeria will be the third most populous country in the world, resulting in an exponential increase in housing demand. 'Urbanisation trends are accelerating—over half of the Nigerian population is expected to reside in urban centres within the next decade, fuelled by migration, youth demographics, and changing lifestyles. This urban influx intensifies the pressure on the existing housing stock and creates tremendous opportunities for new developments. 'Access to affordable housing, be it in terms of ownership or rent, is natural human desire and development objective. This is enshrined in the Sustainable Development Goal 11 (SDG11) of the global developmental agenda, which deals with ensuring access for all to adequate, safe, and affordable housing and basic services and upgrade of slums by 2030. 'Available data indicates that only 38.2% of urban dwellers own the houses they live in, making over 60% of those living in the urban areas so not own the properties they live in. This not only highlights the need for more housing but also underscores the significant opportunities and demand in the rental market. 'Investment in housing and construction generates powerful multiplier effects, stimulating demand for materials such as cement, steel, glass, tiles, and providing livelihoods for millions in manufacturing, trade, and professional services. 'Given these new realities in the housing space, the demand and opportunities that exist within the sector. The need for more granular and sector-specific data on housing, real estate, and construction is now more apparent than ever. 'Till now, the available data on housing have been generated through general household or firm-level surveys, where only little information on the sector is collected, analysed, and reported. With the increased contribution and relevance of the sector, more investment is needed to produce the data required to maximise the potential and exploit the opportunities within the sector.' Abu Dhabi Department of Energy organizes awareness sessions for gas system safety
Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE), in partnership with the Majalis Abu Dhabi at the Presidential Court, has organized a series of awareness briefings concerning safety procedures for gas systems inside buildings. These sessions took place during the first half of 2025 as part of the DoE's ongoing efforts to promote social awareness and consolidate public safety practices in the Emirate. This initiative is intended to spread best practices for the safe use of gas in both domestic and commercial environments, and to elevate the community's readiness for responding to emergencies. Such measures are instrumental in protecting lives and property and in raising safety levels throughout the different areas of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. There was broad community participation in the sessions, which took place in various community Majalis throughout Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Al Dhafra. Those present were provided with the opportunity to put forward their questions, provide their comments, and share their own experiences. A number of DoE officials and employees were in attendance, with the objective of developing initiatives that yield a sustainable socio-economic impact. The importance of direct outreach to residents and the use of community Majalis as essential platforms for enhancing constructive discussion and listening to the feedback and suggestions of society's members was affirmed by Eng. Ahmed Alsheebani, Petroleum Products Sector Executive Director at DoE. He noted that this approach supports the evolution of services delivered within this vital sector. Furthermore, Al Alsheebani indicated that the DoE maintains its cooperation with gas service suppliers for the purpose of updating systems and adopting latest practices, with the objective of mitigating risks related to gas use and reinforcing the overall safety ecosystem. Falling under the umbrella of the "Year of Community," this initiative is also a component of the DoE's efforts to reinforce effective communication with the public. It does so by engaging with different societal segments and capitalizing on the essential function of the Majalis in promoting awareness and reinforcing a culture of safety. Sessions were conducted at a number of community Majalis, namely: the Mohammed bin Zayed City Majlis, Khalifa City Majlis, Al Falah Majlis, Al Rahbah Majlis, and the Hilal Zaid Al-Shehhi Majlis, along with the Remaah Majlis, the Al Alia Majlis in Al Ain City, and the Al Sila Majlis in the Al Dhafra area.
