Aberdeen accordion player on decades of playing at Balmoral balls - and the time King Charles was late as he was 'watching Corrie'
Frank's years on the squeezebox took him around dance halls all over Scotland, playing to countless dances spanning decades.
He has even played the instrument before audiences in America, Canada and the Middle East – as well as all over Europe.
But as he receives a British Empire Medal in the King's Birthday Honours, it's his royal connections we ask about when we visit him at his Kingswells home.
And taking in the sun in his garden, Frank even treats us to a few tunes as he regales us with the story of 'amazing musical journey'.
After treating us to a selection of tunes, Frank, who has three daughters, recalls how he first fell in love with the accordion 75 years ago.
Frank, who was born and brought up in Perth but moved to Aberdeen in 1995, remembers when he started to show an interest in music.
He recalls his father playing the fiddle and bringing home an old wind organ.
But this was all while spending his working week in the banking industry.
And it was only when he took early retirement in 1995, that he began to really devote himself to his life-long passion.
'I thought I was going to spend the rest of my life on the golf course, like all my colleagues,' he chuckles.
'But I got a call from the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society inviting me to play for classes and dances in Aberdeen.'
As this new career took off, he became a regular on Robbie Shepherd's Radio Scotland show Take The Floor.
And soon enough, he found himself bagging quite a prestigious booking…
For 35-years, Frank played with Jack Sinclair's Scottish Band at more than 200 royal events, including the Ghillies Ball at Balmoral Castle and the Queen Mother's 100th birthday party at neighbouring Birkhall.
'We have lots of happy memories of the royal family,' Frank tells me.
'We became almost friends of the royal family, and it was quite special.'
The Ghillies Ball was one of Her Majesty's annual highlights during her beloved summer residences at her Highlands hideaway.
This tradition dating back to the days of Queen Victoria has even been immortalised in The Crown.
It was arranged as a thank you to staff, and the first tune would usually be the Dashing White Sergeant.
Experts say the event is private so no photographs or video are typically released – and it's only eye-witnesses like Frank who know what it was really like.
It's said The Queen 'did every dance and would stay up late into the night to just enjoy it'.
It's an event most of us would love a peek at, and Frank doesn't mind sharing some of his recollections of the annual tartan-clad extravaganza – and other special events.
Including one where the serving monarch, back when he was a prince, offered up an unexpected excuse for turning up late…
'I remember one night it was a fancy dress party, which took place every summer the family was staying there. We were sat there ready to play,' he recalls.
'It was always judged by Prince Charles then, and the fancy dress parade was always at half past seven.
'But this evening Prince Charles did not arrive at half past seven to judge the fancy dress parade. And about 10-15 minutes later we started to get worried as everyone was waiting for the music to start.
'Turns out he was wanting to finish an episode of Coronation Street!'
The King does appear to be a fan of the Manchester soap – having visited to mark its 40th anniversary in 2000, and even filming a small cameo.
On the Queen Mother's 100th birthday, Frank remembers her rolling back the years by dancing the St. Bernard Waltz and the Gay Gordons.
Frank adds: 'She was very gracious, very communicative, she loved meeting people and she was just a very kindly hospitable lady.'
And he is just as effusive in his praise for her daughter – the woman who would go on to become the UK's longest-serving monarch until her death in 2022.
The late Queen knew each of the musicians by name and Frank treasures the little interactions he was lucky enough to have with the historic figure.
'It was undoubtedly a huge honour and it was quite special because we were treated like royalty by the royalty,' he tells me.
'It is difficult to put into words. It's a period of my life I will never forget.'
Over the years, Frank has won many awards, and his music has taken him all across the globe.
'The amazing thing is how the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society has become popular worldwide,' he adds with pride.
Every summer he still attends the St Andrews Summer School – a major convention of dancers and musicians from all over the world which goes on for four weeks.
So is he slowing down, now that he's in his mid-80s?
Frank chuckles as he explains he still maintains a busy diary as he 'doesn't like to say no' to people.
And it's recently been packed with events at Haddo House, with a snow ball he has performed at for 54 years on the trot, a performance with Fiona Kennedy and plenty more.
'It is about getting out there and enjoying yourself,' he explains.
'There is no better activity to do than Scottish Country Dancing, it keeps the mind active and keeps the body fit… That's what Scottish Country Dancing is all about.
'When dancers need hips and joints replaced like anyone else, they recover more quickly because they are fit – they're up and about in the ward before anyone else!'
Ever humble, Frank 'thought there had been a mistake' when he was awarded a British Empire Medal (BEM) for his services to music and culture.
'It was unreal, I just thought there had been a mistake,' the twinkle-eyed gentleman tells me, still a bit surprised.
'I had to sit down and really nip myself. It makes me feel very very special.
'I'm quite humbled, but highly honoured without a doubt…
'There are nights in my sleep where I wake up and start thinking about the things I have done, and I wonder 'did I really do that!''

McDonald's ‘best burger by far' is finally returning — but there's a big catch
McDonald's customers are in for a treat as the fast food chain is preparing to switch up its menu at the end of the month. For six weeks from July 30 there will be a brand new McFlurry flavour available, plus two 'unmissable' new drinks, and several returning classics – including a burger that's been hailed the 'best by far' by diehard fans. We're talking, of course, about the Big Tasty and Big Tasty with Bacon, which are rarely featured on the menu, despite being incredibly popular. Last sold in 2024, the burgers both feature a beef patty, Emmental cheese, onions, tomatoes and a smoky sauce, all served in a toasted sesame bun, and one has some extra bacon. But there is a bit of a catch… the range won't be available nationwide. The Big Tasty range will only be a regional exclusive in East Anglia from the end of next week. Similarly, those in Tyne & Tees are also getting a special treat, as the Steakhouse Stack will be joining the line up in participating restaurants up north. But before those in these parts of the UK start feeling smug about their bonus items, it's worth noting that they'll be missing out on one other returning product: the Chicken Big Mac. The chicken version of the classic, which features two patties, a slice of cheese, pickles, lettuce and Big Mac sauce, will be back on McDonald's menus everywhere except for East Anglia and Tyne & Tees, for a limited time. But the whole of the UK will be able to enjoy a bunch of other returning fan-favourites, including Spicy Chicken McNuggets served with a Spicy Chilli Dip, the Fajita Chicken One, (a wrap made with creamy fajita sauce, tomato salsa, onions, cheese and lettuce with either crispy or grilled chicken), Chilli Cheese Bites and the Milky Way McFlurry with milk chocolate stars, malt flavoured pieces and a chocolate sauce. Aside from these, there are three brand new items to sip and sink your teeth into in August. McDonald's is going to be shaking up its drinks menu with a bold new way to customise their Sprite Zero drink. For the first time ever, customers will be able to add a pump of fruity syrup to their beverage, choosing from Green Apple or Mango & Passionfruit flavours. And those who want to cool off with an ice cream are going to be able to try a new Jaffa Cakes McFlurry, which sees the vanilla base swirled with chocolate covered shortcake pieces and an orange sauce. The new items being introduced mean we have to say goodbye to some of the current ones. The Chicken Katsu Wrap is being axed, along with the Halloumi Fries, Toffee Apple Pie, Toffee Crisp McFlurry and Cheesy McCrispy. More Trending The Big Arch burger will be sticking around on the menu for a little while longer though, as will the Frank's RedHot Mayo dip and the Squishmallows Happy Meal. Mcdonald's is also introducing a new game on its app, known as Side Missions. For four weeks from July 14, those with the app can play to unlock weekly food offers and a chance to win big prizes including £10,000 in cash, £100 Argos or Virgin Experience Vouchers, cinema tickets and free food. Benidorm tourists given urgent warning resort lure is actually 'a load of rubbish'
Frank - or "The Stag Man" as he is known online - regularly gives tips, tricks and advice to those visiting Benidorm as he lives in the Spanish resort with his "legendary stripper" wife Brits in or heading to Benidorm have been warned about charity scams on the sunny destination's beaches. Frank - or "The Stag Man" as he is known online - has told his followers Brits are falling for the popular con, which allegedly sees a group of men lie about a "petition" for charities in order to blag cash off people on the beaches. They say the money is going to good causes, such as to help disabled communities, but actually the men pocket the cash, Frank says in his video. The clip on Instagram has been viewed more than one million times and fans have left comments, thanking Frank for giving them the heads-up before their trip to the Alicante resort. Others have warned tourists similar scams are happening elsewhere, such as Tenerife. In the footage, Frank, dubbed the "King of Benidorm", says: "They're jumping on everyone, look," as he films a group of men holding clipboards. He explains: "And then once they've done that, they'll be looking at what's in your wallet to rob you later." The travel agent and bar owner, originally from Tottenham, north London, films various tourists being approached by these men. Frank's wife Jade films Frank himself, as he swiftly brushes the men off. Frank, 54, continues: "What you've just seen there is one of the scams that runs along the beach [...] it's kind of out of sight, out of mind... The way it works is this: normally, what they'll do is they'll say to you, for example, it's a petition and they ask you to sign it. Once you sign it, then they start pushing you for a donation." Jade, described in previous videos as Benidorm's "most legendary stripper", adds: "They'll say 'it's for the blind, it's for the disabled, for petitioning to get something sorted here in Spain' it's all a load of rubbish." Frank ends the video saying: "[They're] scamming and they will take your money. Some people even get their wallets out and give them a few quid and then once you've done that, then they know." As Luxury Travel Daily reports, social media users have flocked to the comments to share their reactions. One man said: "Benidorm is getting bad now, that's my opinion." Another posted: "I had this scam done to me and my partner luckily we had no cash on us." A further post reads: "Coming tomorrow for first time with misses. I'm more clued up thanks to this." Another tourist reacted with: "It's happening in Tenerife as well." The warning comes after footage captured a massive brawl break out by the swimming pool at a hotel in Benidorm recently. Punches were thrown in the ugly scenes this month.

English city that was once the country's ‘oldest town' is home to unique Barbie house and Harry Potter style train ride
DID you know that Colchester was once known for being England's oldest town? Despite this, it was actually given city status just two years ago as part of The Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations. 8 8 Colchester has a history stretched back thousands of years and was one of the very first Roman cities. The Essex city is also home to a train station that is barely used, and looks like something from Harry Potter. Chappel & Wakes Colne railway station in Colchester is around an hour from London, travelling to Liverpool Street station. Compared to some other regional train stations around the country, this one doesn't have many passengers. Just 28,000 people use it a year, working out to around 77 passengers a day. The train station is right next to the Chappel Viaduct, with the huge brick structure built in the 1840s and measuring 1,066ft. It looks very similar to the Glenfinnan Viaduct in Scotland, which was used in Harry Potter for the Hogwarts Express. Nearby is The Swan Inn pub right on the river, and their beer garden is found underneath the viaduct. And there is more history to Colchester too with it also being the place where the oldest hot cross bun in the world was baked. It was baked on Wyre Street in Colchester, on Good Friday 1807 - confirmed by the note on the bag it came in, and the bun is now rock hard. 'World's FASTEST bullet train' that can reach 280mph is unveiled - and it even has a dining car and plush business-class 8 Owned by a couple in Wormingford, the bun is older than the one kept in the British Museum, baked in 1869. While you won't be able to see the bun, something in Colchester you can't miss is the pink house. The six-bedroom mansion in Tiptree called the 'Eaton House Studio' is a dream to any fan of Barbie. The house boasts dozens of stylish rooms, each designed completely differently. There is a saloon and space-inspired kitchen, floral staircases, and unicorns in the garden. 8 8 8 It's attracted celebrity guests and was featured in Little Mix's Bounce Back music video. It was created by its artist owner Amy Griffith, who said she built it to "share my artistic vision with others". It can sleep 16 people and can be hired you even hire it out from £2,400 as it details on Host Unusual. Plus, the Victorian English park in Colchester with plans for huge new playground with castle attractions, zip lines and sand pits. And the UK garden named as one of the best places to see cherry blossoms, bluebells and tulips in the world. 8
