Trump taps Sean Duffy to serve as interim NASA chief
"I am pleased to announce that I am directing our GREAT Secretary of Transportation, Sean Duffy, to be Interim Administrator of NASA," Trump posted to Truth Social. "He will be a fantastic leader of the ever more important Space Agency, even if only for a short period of time."
The president praised Duffy's performance at the Department of Transportation, calling his tenure "TREMENDOUS," and sharing his work on air traffic control modernization and infrastructure revival. Duffy, a former congressman from Wisconsin and longtime Trump ally, accepted the role enthusiastically. "🚀 Honored to accept this mission. Time to take over space. Let's launch." he wrote on X.

Isaacman, a billionaire private astronaut and longtime associate of Elon Musk, was nominated by Trump in December 2024 but faced mounting scrutiny over ties to Musk and SpaceX, which some officials viewed as a conflict of interest.According to The Associated Press, Trump said the decision to pull Isaacman's name came after a "thorough review of prior associations" and growing concern over "corporate entanglements."
NASA has increasingly factored into the Trump administration's national defense, innovation, and economic agenda. Trump has long emphasized the strategic importance of space, launching the Space Force during his first term.

Weeks after the University of Virginia's president resigned amid pressure from the Justice Department, the Trump administration is increasing its scrutiny of another large public university in the state. On Thursday, the Education Department said it had opened its second civil rights investigation in as many weeks into George Mason University, this one over the alleged use of race in the hiring and promotion of faculty. The department said it launched the investigation after receiving complaints from multiple professors.

General Motors future models 2025-35 (part 1)
Donald Trump's volatile regime of tariffs remain a major issue for so very many OEMs, General Motors being one of the hardest hit. Not only does the lack of firm mandates make even short term planning all but impossible, business cases for GM's own exports to the USA are in ruins. What happens if GM Korea loses its remaining plants? GM Korea is a major source of big selling SUVs for all three North American countries. Now even the viability of the entire operation has been called into question. The Chevy Trax and Trailblazer, along with the Buick Envista and Encore GX are currently built in Korea for North America. If the relevant GM Korea plants are indeed going to be shut down - nothing has been confirmed it should be stressed - then certain US factories could gain some of the existing production. General Motors remains silent on this topic but the red ink must be getting close to gushing level. Historically, the company has been ruthless when it comes to closing national and even regional operations. The Chevrolet brand once did good volume in Korea while in China it was quite a big deal. Nowadays, Chevy is in real trouble though at least in the PRC Buick is doing well. The latter brand will be one of two subjects - along with Cadillac - for the second part of this GM future vehicles series. Firstly though, this report looks at certain possible highlights of not only Chevrolet's next generation worldwide line-up, but GMC's and GMC Hummer's too. Chevrolet As trends in the US market evolve and buyers take their time warming to EVs, so GM has had to quickly adjust its future models. Chevrolet is no exception to this rule, though to a certain extent the opposite strategy is being deployed in China. Ever more electrification is taking place in each of Chevy's largest markets worldwide, with hybrids, electrics and plug-in hybrids slowly being added. After many decades in the Midsize segment, GM's biggest brand has now exited this interior size class with the end of the Malibu last November. Toyota Motor Sales USA and American Honda must not be able to believe their luck at this odd decision. A new Bolt in 2027 Fairfax Assembly, where the Malibu and Cadillac XT4 had been made, is now being retooled for the next Bolt. Production of the future EV is due to commence at the Kansas factory in December. And on the topic of sedans, Mexico's once very successful Cavalier has now been discontinued, GM again leaving a key size class to its rivals. The Chevy brand still does much business in many countries outside North America, China's SGMW JV with SAIC and Wuling being a key link in this chain. One such example is Egypt where Optra production started last December at the 6th October City factory, assembly of the old Optra having ended there in 2023. The new model, which is the same car as Mexico's Aveo, is also sold in South America as the Chevy Sail. Build is from CKD kits sent from China to Egypt by SGMW. Brazil, an even more important market for Chevrolet than North Africa and the Middle East, is also increasingly sourcing its models from the PRC. The latest example is the Spark EUV, a 4.3 m long EV. Announced in January, this is a rebadging of China's E260 platform Baojun Yep Plus. There will also be an MG brand variant for India starting later in 2025. All three will be facelifted in 2027/2028 and replaced in 2030/2031. Next Onix and Tracker: when? Still with South America, the Onix and Tracker have each just had their mid-cycle facelifts (announced a few days ago) so the future generations of these big sellers should be launched in 2028. An Onix-based crossover is to debut in 2026 it was announced in July 2024, the plant in question being Gravataí in Rio Grande do Sul. This additional model will join the Onix sedan and hatchback and be exported throughout The Americas and elsewhere. A year on from this vehicle's launch comes a replacement for the S-10 or D-Max (medium-sized pick-ups). This could be the first model for a JV with Hyundai, an alliance having been confirmed in November 2024. Wuling EV becomes a future Chevrolet EVs are not being overlooked for the Brazilian market either. Later this year comes the Captiva EV, a Chevy version of the Wuling Starlight S, also known as the Xing Guang/Xingguang 'Starlight' S. Having debuted at the Chengdu motor show in August 2024, this 4,745 mm long SUV will have a 150 kW motor and a 60 kWh battery as an EV. And as a PHEV, there is to be 78 kW 1.5-litre engine plus one motor. Both 9.8 kWh and 20.5 kWh battery options will be offered. Expect the mid-cycle restyle in 2028 and the replacement in 2031. Returning to North America, mid-2027 sees the arrival of the (gasoline-powered) Equinox on the line at Fairfax Assembly in Kansas. This in response to President Trump's insistence that more vehicle production takes place in the USA. However, in this case, Equinox build also stays at San Luis Potosí in Mexico. What's currently made in Mexico? San Luis Potosí Assembly presently manufactures not only the Equinox but the GMC Terrain too, while Silao Assembly produces the Chevy Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 pick-ups. A third site, Ramos Arizpe, is the source of the Chevy Blazer and Blazer EV as well as the Equinox EV and the Cadillac Optiq. Other shifts in the North American manufacturing footprint will include the addition of the Blazer (IC model) to the Spring Hill plant in Tennessee. It is not clear if that means Ramos Arizpe loses this SUV or remains the lead manufacturing location. C9 Corvette isn't going anywhere One model which we know won't be leaving its long-time home plant is the Corvette. The supercar has just had a minor facelift (2026MY) which means its replacement should be arriving in 2028. Production will naturally remain at the historic Bowling Green complex in Kentucky. There will surely be far more emphasis on electrification for the next generation but V8 engines won't be going away. A sixth-generation of the Small Block family will be produced at both the Tonawanda plant outside Buffalo in New York and at Flint Engine in Michigan commencing in 2027. GMC Excluding Hummer (see below) and the ancient Savana van series, the present line-up from GMC consists of the Terrain, Yukon and Yukon XL SUVs plus the Canyon, Sierra, Sierra HD and Sierra EV pick-ups. New for the 2025 model year, the third generation Terrain is therefore some four years away from a facelift and seven to eight from a successor. However, its 1.5-litre engine will likely be either replaced or supplemented by a hybrid powertrain in a few years' time. Production of this VSS-S platform (i.e. FWD & AWD) 4.7 m long model will remain at the San Luis Potosí plant in Mexico. AT4 and Denali variants are imminent, new for the '26 model year. Future PHEV pick-ups? The Sierra and its heavy duty derivatives are twinned with the Chevy Silverado and as such will be replaced for the '27 model year. It is also believed that a Sierra PHEV (and Silverado PHEV) are coming as part of the fifth generation line-up. The architecture will be General Motors' GM T1-2, this being an evolution of T1. Then in calendar 2027, the 1500 variants will be joined by a new 2500 HD and 3500 HD, these being on an adaptation of the same architecture. Due to it being a different model entirely, electric-only and launched fairly recently, the Sierra EV could have a long life cycle ahead, a facelift still being some years away. There will however, be a second production site for the model, Orion Assembly being due to add build from mid-2026. Factory Zero in Detroit remains the lead plant. The second generation is expected around 2031 though GM will be watching buyer interest in electric trucks closely: it is possible that the next EV will be delayed until 2034 should it be decided that the sixth generation Silverado and Sierra have a battery as standard. This decision likely won't happen until decade-end. Long life cycle for the Canyon? GMC's smaller - though it's 5.4 m long - pick-up was last renewed for the 2023 model year. Manufactured at Wentzville Assembly in Missouri, the Canyon is the twin of the Chevy Colorado and has a standard 2.7-litre turbocharged engine. Both trucks are due a facelift in a year's time and their replacements should debut for the 2033 or 2034 model years after a second facelift in CY2030. The successors could be electric though it is presently too early to say. Way before then, a hybrid powertrain should arrive in 2027. Generation six of the Yukon, which is GMC's largest SUV, along with its extended wheelbase XL derivative, is due in early 2028. For generation five, the Chevy Tahoe and Cadillac Escalade are more or less the same vehicle, all three being manufactured at GM's Arlington plant in Texas. That is unlikely to change for the next models. A hybrid powertrain is almost guaranteed, though V8 engines will continue, along with a ten-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. GMC Hummer There has been very little news from GMC division's Hummer brand these last years. Both models do sell fairly well though, the latest development being the Carbon Fiber Editions. New for the 2026 model year and announced in May, these will be the fastest Hummers yet when deliveries commence later in 2025. Zero to sixty miles per hour takes an official 2.8 seconds (Pickup) and the limited edition applies to both EV and Pickup. Power for the 3X variants upon which the Carbon Fiber trucks are based rises from 1,000 to 1,160 horsepower. Both Hummer models are due for mid-life facelifts probably next calendar year. The first of their eventual replacements should debut for the 2030 or 2031 model years. Smaller Hummers? Whilst rumours of smaller Hummer models come and go there is no publicly confirmed development programme. However, one or two vehicles to be positioned below the respectively 5.0- and 5.5-m long SUV and Pickup would be logical additions to the GMC Hummer line-up.
