Shruti Haasan Calls 3 ‘Worse Than Heartbreak', Says It'd Trend Beyond Kolaveri Di Today

Aishwarya Rajinikanth's 2012 debut "3" is a cult classic known for "Why This Kolaveri Di." Shruti Haasan feels its take on love and mental health would resonate more today.
Over a decade since its release, Aishwarya Rajinikanth's directorial debut 3 is still a cult classic, not just for its viral song Why This Kolaveri Di, but also for its layered take on love and mental health. Actor Shruti Haasan, who starred alongside Dhanush in the 2012 psychological drama, believes the film was ahead of its time and would have resonated more deeply with audiences today.
Speaking in a recent interview with Prema, Shruti opened up about how much the project meant to her, and the emotional weight of seeing it underappreciated during its initial release. 'Regret I have is when some films I know are very special. And I know I gave a part of myself. And when they don't work, it's worse than heartbreak. But in general, I am not a regretful person," she said.
When asked to name the films she had in mind, Shruti didn't hesitate to mention 3. 'I wish 3 was a more commercial success. Now, everybody talks of pan-Indian films. But even back then, it had to be dubbed in Hindi; there was no OTT. I feel like if that film were released now, it would've been a rage. Much bigger than just the Kolaveri song," she explained. She also mentioned D-Day as another film she wished had reached a wider audience.
Released in 2012, 3 followed the story of Ram (Dhanush) and Janani (Shruti), a couple whose seemingly perfect love story takes a tragic turn when Ram is diagnosed with bipolar disorder. The film was praised for its emotional depth but struggled to find box office success despite the overwhelming popularity of its soundtrack.
Why This Kolaveri Di?, composed by a then-debutant Anirudh Ravichander and sung by Dhanush, became an internet sensation in 2011. It crossed millions of views within days, even earning a nod from then Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, who invited Dhanush as a guest to Delhi.
Meanwhile, Dhanush is gearing up for Idly Kadai and Tere Ishk Mein, while Shruti will next be seen in Coolie and Train.

I'm ready for an enriching new chapter in Telugu cinema: Chandrajith Belliappa

After his debut, Ibbani Tabbida Ileyali, filmmaker Chandrajith Belliappa — part of Rakshit Shetty 's Seven Odds writing team — had his sights set on developing his next script in Kannada. 'I was working on a subject I was deeply passionate about and trying to mount it in Kannada. While I did get offers and interest from the industry, I realised the scale of my story and current market conditions made it tough to execute,' he recalls. The turning point came with the digital release of his debut film. 'Once it started streaming, everything changed. Several teams from the Telugu industry reached out to me. After multiple discussions, I finally said 'yes' to the project I'm working on now.' 'AUDIENCES TODAY ARE OPEN TO STORIES FROM EVERYWHERE' For Chandrajith, this cross-cultural openness is both encouraging and vital. 'It helps filmmakers weather market challenges and allows stories to travel beyond their native borders,' he says. 'I'd love to keep telling stories in Kannada. But I also want to reach a stage where my Kannada films connect with audiences from other languages. Until then, I'll keep exploring, learning, and embracing opportunities,' he says. Alongside his Telugu film, Chandrajith is scripting a Hindi project — though not directing it — and will shift to Hyderabad for a year to focus on his new venture. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Pierce Brosnan's Wife Lost 120 Pounds - This Is Her Now Undo 'IT'S REASSURING THAT KANNADA CONTENT IS BEING EMBRACED WIDELY' On his upcoming Telugu debut, he says, 'Being offered a platform to tell a story in a different language is both heartwarming and challenging. Dedicate my win to incredible mothers of this world, says Rani Mukerji

Rani Mukerji, who bagged her first-ever National Film Award nearly 30 years after entering the film industry, says she feels "overwhelmed" to have received the honour. The award, for the Best Actress, was announced for her performance role in Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway, where she played a mother fighting to bring her children back home. Calling it a big moment in her long journey in cinema, the Mardaani actress shared her feelings in her statement, reflecting on the "incredible films" she has done and thanked the jury for recognising her work. Rani also shared the joy of the win with the team behind the film, calling it a 'truly special project.' 'I'm overwhelmed to have won the National Award for my performance in Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway. Incidentally, this is the first-ever National Award in my 30-year career. As an actor, I have been fortunate to have some incredible films in my body of work and have received so much love for them. 'I thank the National Award jury for honouring my work in Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway. I share this moment with the entire team of the film--my producers Nikkhil Advani, Monisha, and Madhu, my director Ashima Chibber, and everyone who worked on this truly special project that celebrated the resilience of motherhood,' she said. Rani also added that for her, this award means more than just recognition for a single film and shared that the honour is very 'emotional and personal' for her, as the film's message is close to her heart. 'I dedicate my National Award to all the incredible mothers of this world. There is nothing like a mother's love and her ferocity to protect her own. The story of this Indian immigrant mother, who went all out for her child and took on a nation, shook me deeply... a mother's love for her child is unconditional,' she said. 'I realised this when I had my own. So, this win, this film, feels deeply emotional and personal. A mother can move mountains for her children and also make the world a better place. This film tried to show this,' Rani added. Rani's role in Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway is based on the real-life case of Sagarika Chakraborty, whose children were taken by the Norwegian government in 2011. Rani plays Debika, the mother who fights the foreign legal system to bring her kids back. Since her debut in Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat in 1996, Rani has built a solid career. From winning hearts with Kuch Kuch Hota Hai in 1998 to playing bold and fearless women in many films, she has chosen many roles that show strength and emotion.
