WE and CIB partner to offer advanced digital financial services in Egypt
Under the memorandum of understanding, CIB will develop financial products and services tailored specifically for WE customers, utilising the latest digital models and programmes within a Banking-as-a-Service framework. The partnership will leverage WE's extensive geographical reach, distribution channels, and services offered to millions of customers, creating added value for both organisations and contributing to financial literacy, the integration of the informal economy, and greater financial inclusion.
This initiative aligns with Egypt's digital transformation goals, promoting financial inclusion by integrating banking services within the WE digital ecosystem. The collaboration also reflects CIB's commitment to innovation and customer-centric banking, ensuring financial services are available anytime, anywhere.
By combining their efforts, WE and CIB are setting a new standard for cooperation between the banking and telecommunications sectors, paving the way for a more connected and financially inclusive future.

Sheikh Khaled leads UAE at BRICS summit in Rio de Janeiro
On behalf of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Sheikh Khaled Bin Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, is leading the UAE delegation at the 17th BRICS Summit, taking place in Rio de Janeiro, in Brazil, from 6-7 July 2025. The UAE joined BRICS during the 15th BRICS Summit, held in Johannesburg, South Africa, in August 2023. The UAE's membership reflects its commitment to multilateral cooperation and constructive dialogue through platforms that represent developing and emerging economies on the global stage, while leveraging cultural diversity to promote peace, security and development both regionally and internationally. The BRICS nations will convene for a summit in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday and Monday, with members hoping to weigh in on global crises while tiptoeing around US President Donald Trump's policies. The city, with beefed-up security, will play host to leaders and diplomats from 11 emerging economies including China, India, Russia, South Africa and host Brazil, which represent nearly half of the world's population and 40 per cent of its GDP. Brazil's left-wing President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva will have to navigate the absence of Chinese President Xi Jinping, who will miss the summit for the first time. Beijing will instead be represented by Premier Li Qiang. Russian President Vladimir Putin, who is facing a pending International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant, will not travel to Brazil, but is set to participate via video link, according to the Kremlin. Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian, fresh from a 12-day conflict with Israel and a skirmish with the United States, will also be absent, as will his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, a Brazilian government source told reporters. Tensions in the Middle East, including Israel's ongoing war in Gaza, will weigh on the summit, as well as the grim anticipation of tariffs threatened by Trump and due next week. Trump said that starting Friday, his administration would send countries letters stating their tariff levels, as negotiations to avoid higher US levies enter the final stretch. 'We're anticipating a summit with a cautious tone: it will be difficult to mention the United States by name in the final declaration,' Marta Fernandez, director of the BRICS Policy Center at Rio's Pontifical Catholic University, told AFP. The cable has now come ashore at Port Said on the Mediterranean […] Telecom Egypt, the countrys integrated telecom operator and a subsea cables provider, together with SubCom, the global supplier of subsea data systems, has announced the completion of two critical landings of the Southeast Asia-Middle East-Western Europe 6 (SEA-ME-WE-6) subsea cable system in Egypt. The cable has now come ashore at Port Said on the Mediterranean coast and at Ras Ghareb on the Red Sea. Telecom Egypt facilitated the connection between the two coastal landing points by ensuring diverse and resilient terrestrial crossing routes were in place. With this, the SEA-ME-WE-6 subsea cable has completed its landing activities in Egypt. SEA-ME-WE-6 is the sixth edition of the SEA-ME-WE cable system family. The system connects Singapore (Tuas) to France (Marseille), crossing Egypts territory terrestrially. SubCom serves as the contractor responsible for building the subsea cable system. Upon completion, the SEA-ME-WE-6 cable system will establish a strategic connection between Africa, Asia and Europe through its 17 landing points, significantly enhancing global network infrastructure. Spanning a distance of 21,700 km, the systems consortium comprises 16 major subsea cable providers, including Telecom Egypt, alongside BEYON B.S.C (Bahrain), Bangladesh Submarine Cables PLC, Bharti Airtel Ltd. (India), China United Network Communications Group Company Limited, Dhiraagu (Maldives), Djibouti Telecom, Microsoft (United States), Mobily (Saudi Arabia), Orange (France), PCCW Global , Singtel (Singapore), Sri Lanka Telecom, Telekom Malaysia, Telin (Indonesia) and Trans World Associates (Pakistan). Mohamed Nasr, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Telecom Egypt, commented: 'We are thrilled to announce the successful landings of the SEA-ME-WE-6 cable system in Port Said and Ras Ghareb, marking another significant milestone in our journey to expand Telecom Egypts global reach and strengthen our subsea infrastructure.
