Supercars Darwin: Feeney completes clean sweep
Feeney started from pole position, again, and was headed only briefly over the 70-lap distance to take his third win of the weekend and sixth at the track for and his Triple Eight Chevrolet.

From pole he dominated the early going, building a small gap before he dropped the hammer on lap 10, building a 3s lead in four laps. But Grove Racing's Matt Payne made his first compulsory pitstop on lap 14, undercutting Feeney and seizing the lead when the Camaro driver emerged from the pitlane on lap 30. But Feeney, on much fresher tyres, duly reclaimed the lead two laps later.
In the second half of the race the two drivers stuck to their strategies. Feeney's second stop came with just eight laps to go and he resumed 2.4s in the lead, stretching that to six seconds at the flag, the first driver to sweep the Darwin races since Scott McLaughlin did it six years ago.
'The triple crown has always been a thing for me,' said a happy Feeney.
'I watched Scotty win it back in 2019 and I am so proud of this team. It is hard to put together a weekend like that. I tried to look after the tyres and I got three cracker starts, and I could put my foot down when it was needed.'

For Payne third would have to suffice, still a strong result from the third row of the grid, just behind of his team-mate Kai Allen, on the podium for the second day in a row. On fresher tyres than Payne the 19-year-old found a way past with five laps of the race remaining.

Jack Le Brocq took fourth for Erebus Motorsport after starting second, but only after a late fight to hold out the man he replaced last season. Will Brown had to play another recovery role, starting 11th after missing the top-10 qualifying shootout by less than a tenth of a second, and finishing a similar margin behind Le Brocq.
Chaz Mostert produced an impressive recovery drive for Walkinshaw Andretti United, having started from the pitlane after experiencing a clutch problem on the formation lap, but managed the problem during the race and brought his Ford Mustang home in 12th place.
Feeney leaves Darwin 183 points up on Brown, but Payne is now just 14 points in arrears in third place. Cameron Waters, whose Tickford Mustang shed a wheel with a lap to go, was classified 24th and is now fourth in the points, 320 – effective an entire round - behind Feeney.
Supercars returns to action at Townsville on 11-13 July for the seventh round of the season, with three races at the Reid Park street circuit.

‘Momentous for sport': Rugby star praised for withdrawing from team due to concussion symptoms
Irish rugby star Garry Ringrose has been praised after he withdrew from the British and Irish Lions squad for Saturday's second test against Australia after experiencing concussion symptoms. The 30-year-old had initially been selected in the starting lineup but approached head coach Andy Farrell on Thursday to report his symptoms. Advertisement Ringrose has 67 Ireland caps but he is making his first tour appearance with the Lions, a team comprising players from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. The tours take place every four years and rotate between Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. A concussion caused Ringrose to miss Saturday's 27-19 win over Australia. The centre returned on Tuesday in the 24-19 over the First Nations and Pasifika XV (a team made up of players of First Nations, Maori and Pacific Island heritage), coming on as a substitute in the 65th minute. Farrell said on Thursday that Ringrose had been picked to start on Saturday but after training, he withdrew from selection due to persistent effects from the concussion. Huw Jones will now partner Bundee Aki in midfield. 'It's head-related again, so I actually don't know at this stage (what's happened),' Farrell said at a press conference. 'It was literally as I was walking off the field, he came to me, and once it's mentioned, that's that. 'There was no incident, he was feeling good well in advance of Tuesday, fit and ready to play. No incident through the game at all, nothing yesterday and nothing this morning at all. 'But with these things, players are getting very good at telling the truth of how they feel. So it was a no-brainer to make the change straight away.' Lions captain Maro Itoje called Ringrose's actions 'selfless', with Farrell adding: 'It was very big of him and the right thing to do, 100 per cent. For the team as well, not just for Garry.' Headway, the brain injury charity, described Ringrose's decision as 'momentous for sport'. 'By flagging the ongoing effects of his brain injury, he has put the team first by stepping aside — allowing a fully-fit team-mate to take his place in one of the most high-stakes matches of the tour,' the charity said in a statement on Thursday. In doing so, he is also setting an incredible example to other sportspeople at all levels. 'It also highlights how difficult it is for medics to accurately assess players for the concussion — both in the immediate aftermath of a collision, and then the lingering effects, which can last for months. 'It takes players to be open and honest, admitting when they do not feel right. It takes incredible bravery, but it's a decision that could make such a difference to his long-term health.' Luke Griggs, chief executive of Headway, added: 'Garry's decision is incredibly brave. It's also selfless and potentially transformative in the way sportspeople at all levels consider brain injury. 'In doing so, not only has he protected himself from a potentially much more serious brain injury, but he's also set an incredible example for others. 'Looking after yourself and looking after your team are not mutually exclusive. No concussed player will be an effective team-mate, and no game is more important than your long-term health.' World Rugby launched a brain health campaign in November 2021 'to educate and support current and former elite players who might be concerned about their wellbeing and brain health'. Former France international Sebastien Chabal said this year that he cannot 'remember a single second' of his career. Now 47, Chabal appeared 62 times for France between 2000 and 2011, helping them win the 2007 Six Nations Championship.

Australian pitches will challenge England
Australian pitches will provide a different challenge for England's batters in this winter's Ashes, says Steve Smith. The first Ashes Test begins in Perth on 21 November, a highly-anticipated series after the thrilling draw in 2023, with England looking to regain the urn for the first time since 2015. Former captain Smith, who is representing Welsh Fire in this year's Hundred, averages 56.01 in Tests against England but is expecting a tougher challenge for batters this time around. "Their batters are going to be challenged a little bit differently to the wickets they have had over in England for a while, which have looked pretty flat and good for batting," Smith told BBC Sport. "The wickets in Australia in the last three or four years have been very tricky for top order batters. It is going to be a good challenge for them. "But it's going to be a wonderful series. I have been watching the India and England series and there has been some great cricket played there, so I think the Ashes this year is going to be an absolute belter." Smith, 36, also said the respective pace attacks were the strength for both teams. Australia's top order struggled in the recent series against West Indies on bowler-friendly surfaces where the highest team total was 286 across three Tests. And despite plenty of recent chat around Mitchell Starc, 35, Josh Hazlewood, 34, and Scott Boland, 36, coming to the end of their Test careers, the three combined to skittle West Indies for just 27 earlier this month - a performance so dominant that their skipper and fellow quick Pat Cummins did not bowl an over in the innings. However, Smith has also noted a change of approach from England in comparison to the 2023 series which was only a year into Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum's time in charge. "They have started to play a little bit differently in the last couple of weeks in terms of playing the situation, as opposed to going out and trying to be the entertainers that they said they wanted to be," Smith added. "They are actually trying to win the games now which is perhaps different to what was said in their comments previously." The Hundred to help Olympic ambitions Smith was originally signed by Welsh Fire for the first edition of The Hundred in 2020, but the tournament was postponed because of the Covid-19 pandemic. But he says playing in the competition is on his "bucket list" as he focuses on playing more franchise cricket around the world in order to regain his place in Australia's T20 side and to play in the Olympics. The Los Angeles Games in 2028 will see cricket featured for the first time since 1900. "I decided to stop playing one-day cricket so I can play more franchises, with the aim to make the Olympic team," Smith said. "So to play more shorter-form tournaments around the world is only going to be beneficial. "It has been a long run for me and I have been doing this a long time. I am still enjoying it and particularly the shorter formats, and want to keep putting my name out there." The Hundred starts on 5 August with a double header between London Spirit and Oval Invincibles, while Welsh Fire take on Northern Superchargers in their first game two days later. Proteas' big guns picked for Aussie white-ball tour
Batters Dewald Brevis and Lhuan-dre Pretorius have been included in South Africa's Twenty20 and One Day International squads for their white-ball tour of Australia next month. Offspinner Prenelan Subrayen has also earned a maiden limited overs call-up. The Proteas play their hosts in three T20 matches between August 10-16 before a three-game ODI series from August 19-24. Subrayen, 31, recently made his Test debut in Zimbabwe, as did Brevis, 22, and Pretorius, 19. All three players have been included in both limited overs squads.
