Major visa fraud racket busted in Dubai, 21 convicted
The defendants, of various nationalities, were found guilty of illegally exploiting residence visas by operating fake companies, which they closed abruptly without regularizing the status of recruited workers.
Dr. Ali Humaid bin Khatem, Senior Advocate General and Head of the Citizenship and Residency Prosecution, said the case began after the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai flagged suspicious companies.
Investigations revealed these companies had no real offices and were set up solely to obtain residency visas unlawfully.
The prosecution's investigation covered 33 commercial establishments, uncovering misuse of 385 residency visas. Most of the fake companies secured licences using fictitious addresses, deliberately bypassing residency and labour laws for illegal profit.
Dr. Bin Khatem emphasized the prosecution's commitment to working with authorities to uphold residency and labour regulations.

The initiative enables fast content creation with consistent quality and multilingual capabilities. DEWA reported that the use of NotebookLM reduced production costs by over 99%. Turnaround time improved by more than 95% compared to traditional podcasting methods. The move aligns with the National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence 2031. It supports the UAE's goal to become a global leader in AI adoption. HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer stated that DEWA aims to be the world's first AI-native utility. He noted that integrating advanced gen AI technologies helps DEWA keep pace with digital transformation. Ziad Jammal of Google Cloud praised DEWA's efforts. He said the partnership shows the power of generative AI in driving business value and innovation at scale. DEWA confirmed the initiative is delivering annual cost avoidance of AED 25.5 million. Dubai Police bust gang promoting drug-laced sweets online
In a major anti-narcotics bust, Dubai Police have arrested a gang of 15 people for promoting drug-laced sweets on social media. Ten men and five women were caught in an operation dubbed "Drugs Flavour," which also led to the seizure of 48 kg of narcotic substances and over 1,100 pills, altogether valued at more than AED 2.4 million. The arrests were announced during a press conference at the Anti-Drug Awareness Exhibition at Festival City Mall. Brigadier Dr. Abdul Rahman Sharif Al Maamari, Director of the International Hemaya Centre, said the gang had been using social media platforms to sell sweets and chewing gum infused with narcotic and psychoactive substances. He credited the success of the operation to advanced surveillance, artificial intelligence tools and the dedication of Dubai Police's specialized anti-narcotics team. Al Maamari added that the group was part of an international network trying to infiltrate the UAE market with disguised drugs. A task force was quickly formed, leading to the arrests after round-the-clock monitoring. The suspects have now been referred to the Public Prosecution. Manal Ibrahim from Dubai Police's Security Media Department urged the public to stay vigilant, especially on social media, and warned against interacting with unknown messages or buying unverified products online. She reminded the public to report suspicious activity through the e-Crime platform or the 'Police Eye' feature on the Dubai Police app and website.
