Dublin seven-time All-Ireland winner transfers to Meath side Dunboyne
DUBLIN'S SEVEN-TIME All-Ireland winner Eric Lowndes has transferred to Meath side Dunboyne.
A club official from the 2018 senior county champions confirmed the news to The42 with today, with Lowndes having featured in a club league game over the weekend.
The St Peregrine's clubman left the Dublin squad in 2021, six years after making his senior debut.
Lowndes first emerged as part of the 2011 Dublin minor team that featured Jack McCaffrey, Ciarán Kilkenny and Cormac Costello. He was also a talented hurler who represented Dublin in both codes as a minor. He played in both All-Ireland minor finals in 2012, wining the football decider against Meath and losing the hurling final to Tipperary.

Both of Lowndes's parents are from Meath and he also attended school in St Peter's Dunboyne.
Lowndes joins a Dunboyne side who contested the 2021 Meath SFC final where they lost out to Wolfe Tones.

The second of Saturday's All-Ireland Senior Football Championship quarter-finals sees Tyrone and Dublin collide at Croke Park. The match has a 6.15pm throw-in time, with the action only being shown live on GAA+. A one match pass for the game costs €12. Tyrone and Dublin's rivalry has been relatively quiet over the past few years compared to the 'Battle of Omagh' era, although that could well change tonight as both sides seek to book their place in the last four of the Championship. Allianz Football League Division One: Tyrone 2-20 Dublin 1-16 Tyrone lost their Division One status after a nine-year stint in the top flight despite an impressive final day win over Dublin at O'Neills Healy Park. Goals in either half from Darragh Canavan and Michael McKernan and a nine-point haul from Man-of-the-Match Darren McCurry wasn't enough to spare the Red Hands, who'll join Derry in Division Two next season. When Malachy O'Rourke sifts through the totality of Tyrone's campaign, there will be more positives than negatives as they claim the unwanted distinction of being the first team relegated from Division One on seven points. Yet, a few key moments contributed to their demise. Shane Walsh's last-gasp two-point free to salvage a draw for Galway in Tuam and their failure to score in the final quarter against Kerry despite the Kingdom losing David Cliford and Joe O'Connor to late black cards in Pomeroy spring to mind. Tyrone saved their best performance until last on a day when they realistically needed to win and hope one of Armagh, Kerry and Mayo didn't. They kept their end of the bargain despite an early blunder from Niall Morgan to gift Dublin an early goal. The Tyrone goalkeeper, who landed on his neck after making a great fetch in the opening minutes, came off his line to collect a David Byrne delivery, but failed to collect the ball, leaving Con O'Callaghan free to fire into an empty net. With Stephen Cluxton absent from the Dublin teamsheet, Gavin Sheridan was given the nod, but he could do little to prevent Tyrone from hitting the front via a stunning Darragh Canavan goal following a delightful pass from McCurry. The hosts were never behind from that point and kicked 10 points clear by half-time with the aid of a strong breeze with Kieran McGeary and McCurry (two) landing pointers while Canavan added a point from play after the hooter sounded. With results elsewhere going against them, Tyrone still had to take care of business. While they lost the second half 0-12 to 1-6, Michael McKernan's goal meant a second half comeback never materialised from the Dubs, despite a rally of five two-pointers. Goal-hungry Cork advance past Tipp and into inaugural All-Ireland U23 camogie final
Cork 3-13 Tipperary 0-15 Cork earned their place in the inaugural Glen Dimplex All-Ireland U23 camogie final with victory over Tipperary at Castle Road on Saturday. A powerful start to a wind-assisted second half saw them come from two points down to lead by three clear goals at the three-quarter mark with a pair of quick-fire green flags from Amy Sheppard and Rose Murphy in the 39th and 43rd minutes the decisive scores for Ger Manley and Danny Morrissey's charges. During that impressive third quarter the home side, who are unbeaten in this championship, outscored Tipperary 2-6 to a single point. The Rebels will meet Galway or Kilkenny in the final on Saturday, July 12. Cork trailed 1-3 to 0-8 at the interval but they had the ability to up their performance in the second half. They restarted in impressive fashion with Sheppard (tallied 1-7) pointing from a 45. Eimear Duignan, Sheppard, Ava Fitzgerald and Niamh McNabola followed from open play. It was the goals, both applied with clinical finishes, that decided the outcome. It would have to be said it was a valiant effort from Bill Mullaney's team. Aoife Dwyer and Danielle Ryan constantly rallied the troops with their contributions of eight and four points respectively. Goalkeeper Áine Slattery was another to leave her mark with some eye-catching saves. This was the third time these sides met - the provincial and round-robin both going the way of Cork (the Munster final after extra-time). Once again, the inclusion of three members of the senior panel - Millie Condon, Meadhbh Ring and Fitzgerald - was beneficial. A fourth member, Orlaith Mullins played with the seniors against Wexford and this will rule her out of the final. Cork got off to a brilliant start when Claudia Keane had the sliotar in the net after just two minutes when she was alert to Slattery's save from Murphy. But the visitors' response was encouraging with Ryan, Anna Fahie and Dwyer points. Slattery was influential too, saving a Sheppard effort. Murphy ended a scoreless Cork period in the 17th minute but they would only add two Sheppard frees in the second quarter. Meanwhile, Bill Mullaney's outfit drew level in the 22nd minute through Hannah Burke and edged in front for the first time courtesy of Dwyer, 1-2 to 0-6. They maintained their advantage at the short whistle thanks to Dwyer sending over a free and Kate Ferncombe from play. But that was as good as it got for the Premier County with the momentum swinging Cork's way via their early second-half surge. Whirl denies Kalpana in pulsating Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh
Whirl gained Epsom compensation when edging out Kalpana in an enthralling Paddy Power Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh on Saturday. The Group One event looked a match on paper between Andrew Balding's proven Group One performer Kalpana (5-6 favourite) and Aidan O'Brien's narrow Oaks second, and so it proved as the pair served up a Curragh classic. Ryan Moore was quickly away, dictating terms aboard the 13-8 second-favourite, with Colin Keane never far away aboard the Juddmonte-owned Kalpana. He must have thought the race was his for the taking when Whirl was asked for maximum effort with two furlongs to run with Kalpana still travelling menacingly. However, Whirl was not for giving in and after a titanic tussle the Wootton Bassett filly pulled out extra inside the final furlong to shade a length and a quarter verdict and deny Juddmonte back-to-back victories in the feature event after Bluestocking 12 months ago.
