Bridal Waltz does it again with Bletchingly Stakes triumph as Peter Moody aims higher
The Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman-trained favourite defied a late challenge from backmarker Kin to get the result from gallant Yellow Sam.
Second-elect New York Lustre finished off late to run fourth.
Drama ensued an hour before the Bletchingly, with Baraqiel, the pre-race favourite, scratched on vet advice.

Racing Victoria vets deemed the comeback sprinter lame in the near foreleg upon inspection.
Moody, who won back-to-back Bletchingly Stakes in 2011-12 with Mid Summer Music and Ready To Rip, was pleased to get the result with Bridal Waltz.
Bridal Waltz won the Listed Creswick Stakes (1200m) at Flemington last start, her main winter target, but did so well post Moody and Coleman tried the Bletchingly.
'I thought her last couple of runs, she probably goes for a spell, but we'll probably take her home and rinse and repeat, take her down the beach and assess her,' Moody said.
'It'd be nice to lift the bar a little bit … do we find a mares' Group 2 now we're a Group 3 winner or have a few weeks off and come back to Flemington in November?
'Chase a stakes race there away from the A-graders, you never know, she might become an A-grader one day the way she's going.'
Bridal Waltz stalked leader and reigning Bletchingly winner Recommendation and let down strongly.
'I was very pleased with where she was in the run,' Moody said.
'Recommendation took her to the right part of the track and carted her well up the straight.
'Good tough effort … we have spaced her runs all the way through, she looks like a hairy little goat.
'She spends most of her time outdoors and down at the beach … in the cold most of it, holds a lot of hair, so she's not overly attracted in the yard but she enjoys that little gap three or four weeks.'

Jockey Ben Melham enjoyed a second win on Bridal Waltz and managed to dictate tempo albeit from behind the leader.
'Initially I thought he was going to go a little bit slower than I would've liked, I stayed out there and forced him to come up inside me and go the tempo I wanted him to go basically,' Melham said.
'It worked well for us, he got going before the corner … she certainly hasn't gone backwards from that (Creswick Stakes).
'The key to her is not to go too slow, she can actually sustain good gallop and good sectionals and hold it right through the line.'
Godolphin were denied a fairytale Melbourne swan song with Kin best of three starters for James Cummings in the Bletchingly.
Kin snagged back to last from a wide barrier and burst through late to grab second. Inhibitions and Kallos, also trained by Cummings, were unplaced.

Windstorm ends 1750-day drought
- Brad Waters
Victoria was in the grip of Daniel Andrews' enforced COVID-19 lockdowns the last time Windstorm won a race.
The former Perth galloper won the Listed Weekend Hussler Stakes at Caulfield in October 2020, indicating he was a top-class performer in the making.
Few, including previous owner Bob Peters, would have known that would be Windstorm's last win for 1750 days.
Peters moved on Windstorm after a few more injury-plagued years but the imposing galloper finally saluted at the 15th attempt for Cranbourne trainer Gavin Bedggood in the Sportsbet More Places Handicap (1400m).
Jockey Luke Cartwright brought the gelding from last as the $41 chance shattered many quaddies when the pair saluted by a length.
Bedggood said Windstorm had drawn some unwarranted criticism during his long winless period.
'I feel sorry for the horse because people along the way called him a 'nonny' (non-winner) and a cheat and it's not the case,' Bedggood said.
'It's taken a while to figure him out.
'I've wanted to put blinkers on him for the last six months but they haven't been the right races.
'Maybe he doesn't run much past this, a good speed over 1400m, and his three wins have been over that trip.
'We'll try to replicate that type of race going forward.'
Windstorm completed a long-priced double for Bedggood after Behaviour won earlier in the day at $16.

She might be a prep away but has potential. SO YOU ARE (race 3, 2nd) This lightly-raced son of So You Think is still learning his craft and hit the line nicely over 1800m in the Highway. He will come into his own over 2000m plus. GLORIOUS MOMENTS (race 4, 1st) It was only a Benchmark 72 but it's easy to see the son of Brutal landing in better races soon. He's got stakes quality and will go through his grades quickly. SLINKY (race 7, 3rd) Put a line through her run two starts ago when she landed too close, she produced a far better run ridden cold. If she finds herself in a race with speed on next start she's worth backing. TRAVOLTA (race 10, 1st) He's won two of his three starts this preparation and can steadily go through his grades in his second preparation in Australia. Back him with confidence if the track is wet. STEWARDS SAY Open Secret (race 1): Did not feel comfortable on the soft track. Was found to be coughing post-race and will undergo further veterinary checks, including an endoscopic examination. Forecaster (race 2): Apprentice William Stanley was fined $500 for striking the gelding nine times before the 100m, four more than permitted. In Summer (race 3): Jockey Jason Collett felt the prevailing racing surface hampered her ability to close off as expected. Ruby Flyer (race 5): Did not travel comfortably on the soft track and failed to fire. Was found to be slow to recover post-race. Storm The Ramparts (race 8): A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding was slow to recover and lost his off-fore plate. He will be spelled. The Black Cloud (race 8): Did not let down under pressure and weakened in the straight. Another horse that was slow to recover post-race. Kazalark (race 10): Late scratching at 9.55am on vets advice after being found lame in the off-foreleg. CRUNCH TIME Nashville Jack (race 1): Surged home along the inside to finish his last 600m in 36.09 seconds. Wisnierska (36.08) and Koibito (36.03) both got home well in behind. Investment (race 6): She was last at one stage but relished the conditions as she was a race best split for every furlong from the 1000m to the finish. Her last 600m of 38.90 seconds was a clear best. Cigar Flick (race 8): Only had a couple of runners behind her in the run before doing her best work down the outside to finish her last 600m in 35.45 seconds. Her last 200m of 12.45 was the best of the race. Regimental Colours (race 9): Showed a terrific finishing burst, running the best final three furlongs of the race to win with splits of 11.62, 11.71 and 12.61 seconds. Her last 600m totally 35.94. TRACK TALK 'He is a nice horse, he has a bit of substance to him.' - Jockey Jason Collett on Nashville Jack. 'I was actually watching the race with Charlie (Duckworth) and said 'I don't know what this Tommy is doing, we said we were going to come through them and have the last crack at them'. Then I said after the race 'that's why Tommy is a jockey and I am a trainer'. - Chris Waller after Cigar Flick's win. 'He's a lovely horse. It's taken a fair while for us to get to this point but finally he's starting to show what we've known he has.' - Stable rep Keith Lam on Glorious Moments. 'If I get offered the chance I'll jump on a plane to come back and ride this horse. I'd go anywhere to ride him.' - Jockey Heavelon Van Der Hoven, who moved to Brisbane on Sunday, on Glorious Moments. 'I thought she could improve a bit today. I said to a few people she had a sneaky chance.' Joe Pride after $61 shot Investment saluted. 'Bit of a feel about her': New level Within reach for Baker filly
Don't miss out on the headlines from Horse Racing. Followed categories will be added to My News. Trainer Bjorn Baker is quietly confident exciting filly Within The Law can go to another level in the spring as he sets his sights on the upcoming Princess Series. Within The Law is one of several spring contenders set to step out at Tuesday's barrier trials at Rosehill Gardens with the filly set to line up in a 900m heat. SUBSCRIBE NOW! The daughter of Lucky Vega is on the third line of betting at $8 for the Group 1 Flight Stakes with Baker keen to follow the tried and true three-year-old fillies path through the spring, which kicks off with the Group 2 $300,000 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) on August 23. 'She is going super,' Baker said. 'We will go through the fillies series and I think she has come back a little bit bigger and stronger. 'You don't get carried away but she has the temperament and everything about her suggests maybe she can be a filly that can go on to that next level. 'With two-year-olds, it's always a bit of a question mark but I have a bit of a feel about her.' It was a remarkable two-year-old season for Within The Law that could have ended in disaster. She won the Group 2 Sweet Embrace Stakes before escaping serious injury when she went through the running rail and lost her rider in the Group 1 Golden Slipper. Within The Law was able to get back to the races to finish third in the Group 2 Percy Sykes Stakes and then came a close second to Nepotism in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes. 'She did a great job and is more of a raceday racehorse rather than a trackworker,' Baker said. 'From that point of view I think, she may be able to step up another level.' She won't be the only two-year-old stepping out on the morning with a plethora of youngsters lining up, including Skyhook, West Of Swindon, State Visit, Blitzburg, King Of Pop, Memo and North England. Baker also has last start Group 1 Sydney Cup winner Arapaho having his first trial over 1000m in a heat that also includes stablemate Perfumist. Group 1 performer Lindermann is among the Chris Waller-trained spring hopefuls set to step out while Canadian Group 1 winner Moira is in the same 900m heat. Waller will also saddle up his first trialist in the Godolphin royal blue with Commemorative in a 900m heat. Pinstriped on course for another memorable Memsie tilt
Don't miss out on the headlines from Horse Racing. Followed categories will be added to My News. The start will be the same but Enver Jusufovic wants a longer journey with stable star Pinstriped in his latest spring campaign. Pinstriped provided Jusufovic with his greatest high in racing when he won last year's Group 1 Memsie Stakes at Caulfield after a solid second in the Group 2 PB Lawrence Stakes a fortnight earlier. Pinstriped beat a strong field fair and square in the Memsie Stakes but Jusufovic was keen for more attempts at Group 1 level with the exciting galloper this time in. Pinstriped has scored important victories at his last two second-up appearances in the spring. 'History will show that he seems to go well in the spring at his first two runs and his form sort of tapers off a bit but I'm hoping this time in that I can get more than two decent runs,' Jusufovic said. READ: Beriman's appeal for concussion protocols to be strengthened 'He's due to win the PB Lawrence, I think, he's run second twice. 'There will be good horses in the Memsie Stakes, like there always is in Group 1 races, but it's a feather in his cap that he was able to beat the two highlight horses, Mr Brightside and Pride Of Jenni, and the new kid on the block Antino.' The son of Street Boss ran in last year's Makybe Diva Stakes but pulled up with a problem before unplaced runs in the Cantala Stakes and Cranbourne Cup to round out 2024. 'He should be cherry ripe for the Memsie,' Jusufovic said. 'Hopefully he'll go to the Makybe Diva after that. 'Last year, I thought I had him right but he pulled a muscle or something after that. 'I think that was the end of his campaign.' READ: Big bets review: Bookies clean up as shorties go under Pinstriped had two unplaced autumn runs but Jusufovic quickly identified a back issue as the course of irritation for the rising seven-year-old. He said he abandoned Pinstriped's autumn campaign to give him ample time to spell before his latest preparation, which has moved into the jumpout phase. 'We identified that his back was playing up and it was hurting a bit,' Jusufovic said. 'For that reason, we pulled the pin and he was able to have a really good break. 'He's come back well. He'll have a jumpout on Monday at Cranbourne but we're happy with the way he's progressing. 'His back is great at the moment.'
