Bathinda
: Four persons, including foreign-based gangster Arsh Dala's father
Charanjit Singh
, were acquitted in a
murder case
in Bathinda. The accused were acquitted due to lack of evidence after the witnesses turned hostile and doubts arose over the recovered weapons.
Bathinda Mall Road Shopkeepers' Association president and owner of Harman Amritsar Kulcha, Harjinder Singh, also known as Mela, was killed outside his shop in Bathinda on Oct 28, 2023.
Angry over the killing of a shopkeeper in a broad daylight, the traders protested by closing their business establishments and blocking the main road in the town by placing the body. Congress leader
Navjot Singh Sidhu
and slain rapper Sidhu Moosewala's father, Balkaur Singh, were present.
Given the enormity of the situation, the district police announced a reward of Rs 2 lakh for information about the accused by releasing their sketches.
Defence counsel Harpal Singh Khaara said that a challan was presented against four accused — Arsh Dala's father Charanjit Singh, Paramjit Singh alias Pamma, Kamaljit Singh alias Komaljit Singh and Lovely Singh alias Lavi Singh.
As per the judgment by the court of special court/additional sessions judge Rajesh Kumar, on the overall appraisal of the evidence on record, the prosecution was not able to prove its case against the accused beyond reasonable doubt.
The material witnesses, complainant Aarti Johal, wife of Harjinder Singh; Jagmail Singh, manager at Harman Kulcha; and Vikram Singh, cook at Harman Kulcha, did not support the case of the prosecution. The remaining witnesses proved the formal investigation proceedings. There was no other independent evidence to prove the allegations leveled in the FIR. There was no substantive evidence on record to prove the charges framed against the accused.

Bizman arrested for Rs34cr GST Scam

Nagpur: The investigation branch of the Maharashtra State GST Department in Nagpur arrested one Mahesh Keshwani, proprietor of M/s K&K Brothers, for allegedly availing and passing fraudulent Input Tax Credit (ITC) worth Rs33.93 crore. The firm, registered under the MGST Act 2017, was found claiming ITC without actual procurement or movement of goods, sourcing credits from registration-cancelled suppliers. A recent investigation at the firm's Jaripatka office uncovered incriminating evidence, including system reports, indicating involvement in a larger network issuing fake invoices to facilitate tax evasion. Following his arrest, Keshwani was remanded to judicial custody until August 14 by the magistrate. The operation, part of a special drive against fake invoicing, was led by assistant commissioner Ramesh Dalvi under the guidance of senior officials, including additional commissioner Tejrao Pacharne. Gurgaon traffic cop in uniform makes Reels mocking law students, faces heat

Gurgaon: A traffic sub-inspector in Kharkhoda has drawn criticism for creating social media reels while in uniform with a police vehicle visible in the background. The cop, who used "official" in his social media account name to suggest it was a police department handle, angered the lawyer community by disparaging law students from Maharishi Dayanand University in Rohtak. Following a Bar Association lawsuit, the Kharkhoda court ordered him to stop making reels in uniform and remove existing videos. Additional Civil Judge (senior division) Kharkhoda, Vikrant, in his order dated August 1, directed Haryana police to identify the serving police officials who make and post videos on social media platforms while on duty and in uniform and take necessary action against them. He renamed the social media account and removed "official" so that the account is not misleading as the official account of a govt official.
