Animal rights group PETA pay unexpected tribute to bat-biter Ozzy Osbourne

PETA has paid an unlikely tribute to Ozzy Osbourne.
The Black Sabbath rocker, who died aged 76 on Tuesday (22.07.25), notoriously bit the head off of a bat during a concert in Iowa in 1982 but has been remembered fondly by animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals for the "gentle side" he showed to creatures after teaming up with organisation to campaign against the declawing of cats.
PETA posted on its website and social media channels: "Ozzy Osbourne was a legend and a provocateur, but PETA will remember the 'Prince of Darkness' most fondly for the gentle side he showed to animals - most recently cats, by using his fame to decry painful, crippling declawing mutilations.
"Ozzy may have been the singer, but his wife, Sharon, and their daughter, Kelly, were of one voice when it meant protecting animals.
"Ozzy will be missed by animal advocates the world over."
The Crazy Train artist joined forces with PETA in 2020 to speak out on the declawing of felines and featured in an advertising campaign feature his bloodied hands with the tagline: "It's an amputation. Not a manicure."
Ozzy said at the time: "Amputating a cat's toes is twisted and wrong. If your couch is more important to you than your cat's health and happiness, you don't deserve to have an animal! Get cats a scratching post - don't mutilate them for life."
The rocker claimed in his 2010 autobiography I Am Ozzy that he chomped down on the bat's head as he was convinced that it was just a rubber toy throw on stage by a rowdy audience during his Diary of a Madman Tour.
Osbourne wrote: "Immediately, though, something felt wrong. Very wrong. For a start my mouth was instantly full of this warm, gloopy liquid. Then the head in my mouth twitched.
"Somebody threw a bat. I just thought it was a rubber bat. And I picked it up and put it in my mouth. I bit into it.
"Oh no, it's real. It was a real live bat."
However, Ozzy told the BBC in 2006 that the bat wasn't alive when it was thrown on stage.
He recalled: "This bat comes on. I thought it was one of them Halloween joke bats because it had some string around its neck.
"I bite into it, and I look to my left and Sharon was going (gesturing no).
"And I'm like, what you talking about? She (says), 'It's a real dead bat.' And I'm... I know now!"

Pantera cancel gigs to grieve Ozzy Osbourne

Pantera have cancelled their upcoming gigs to give themselves time to grieve their hero Ozzy Osbourne. The rockers - who were among the performers at Ozzy's Black Sabath reunion gig Back to the Beginning on July 5 - have axed three shows and postponed two more because they "need time and space to grieve" following Ozzy's shock death on July 22, which came just two weeks after the big show in Birmingham, England. In a statement posted on Instagram, Pantera explained: "Ozzy wasn't just a legend who shaped the very foundation of heavy metal and inspired Pantera from the beginning - he was family. "A mentor, a brother, and a constant presence in our lives both on and off the stage. The bond we shared with him ran far deeper than music. "In light of this profound loss, we need time and space to grieve - to be with our families, our crew, and each other as we process and honor the life of someone who meant so much to us. "Out of respect, and to allow members of our team the time to mourn, we will be [rescheduling and cancelling a number of shows]." The Pantera show in Saratoga Springs, New York on July 28 has been postponed to September 9 and the concert on July 31 in Holmdel, New Jersey will now take place on September 9. Shows in Gilford, New Hampshire on July 29, Birmingham, Alabama on September 8 and Virginia Beach, Virginia on September 10 have been cancelled. The statement added: "We appreciate your understanding during this difficult time." Pantera's guitarist Zakk Wylde was previously a member of Ozzy's solo band and he was also part of the rocker's solo set during the Back to the Beginning concert. After Ozzy's death, paid tribute to his friend in a post on Instagram, writing: "Thank you for blessing the world [with[ your kindness and greatness Oz. You brought light into so many lives and made the world a better place. "You lived [with] the heart of a lion. "I thank the good Lord every day for blessing my life [with] you in it. I love you Oz. Beyond forever."

Geezer Butler was shocked by 'frail' Ozzy Osbourne

Geezer Butler "wasn't prepared" for how "frail" Ozzy Osbourne was during rehearsals for the Black Sabbath reunion gig. The band got back together for one huge final show - the Back To The Beginning concert - at Villa Park in their hometown of Birmingham, England on July 5 and bassist Geezer has admitted he was shocked to see singer Ozzy in such poor health. In an essay written for The Sunday Times newspaper, Geezer explained: "The rehearsals for that final show started a month before at a studio in the Oxfordshire countryside. Tony Iommi, Bill Ward and I ran through seven songs together. Of course, not having played together for 20 years, it took a couple of days to get rid of the rust. "Then it was time for Ozzy to join us. I knew he wasn't in good health, but I wasn't prepared to see how frail he was. "He was helped into the rehearsal room by two helpers and a nurse and was using a cane - being Ozzy, the cane was black and studded with gold and precious stones." Geezer went on to reveal his friend - who passed away on July 22 just two weeks after the concert - was unusually quiet during rehearsals because he found the work so exhausting. He added: "[Ozzy] didn't really say much beyond the usual greetings and when he sang, he sat in a chair. We ran through the songs but we could see it was exhausting him after six or seven songs. "We had a bit of a chat, but he was really quiet compared with the Ozzy of old." Geezer added that he wishes he'd been able to spend more time with Ozzy because he had no idea the appearance at the gig would be the last time they would ever see each other. He added: "I wish I'd had more time backstage with Ozzy, but wishes are redundant now. As Ozzy used to say: 'Wish in one hand and shit in the other and see which comes first. "Nobody knew he'd be gone from us little more than two weeks after the final show. But I am so grateful we got to play one last time together in front of his beloved fans." Geezer concluded the piece by writing: "God bless, Oz, it has been one hell of a ride! Love you!"

Aussie singer G Flip and US star Chrishell Stause marry for the fourth time in medieval-themed wedding

Australian singer G Flip and US star Chrishell Stause have celebrated saying 'I do' for the fourth time with a medieval-themed wedding. G Flip, who uses they/them pronouns, and the Selling Sunset star renewed their vows on Saturday in Los Angeles. The couple rented out a castle in the Hollywood Hills for the occasion, TMZ reported. For the ceremony, Stause wore a white off-the-shoulder gown with a lace corset, while G Flip was dressed in a red tunic with a sword on their back. Stause shared photos from the wedding on her Instagram stories, including the invitation. 'By royal decree, we request the honor of your noble presence to witness the wedding ceremony of Lord Flipo & Lady Stause,' it read. 'Lord Flipo & Lady Stause bid thee join in revelry and royal delight. 'Attire: Medieval, Renaissance, Regal and Festive attire encouraged. RSVP with haste.' Stause shared behind-the-scenes details from her big day, revealing that she'd written her vows on a scroll made from dipping paper into a pan with brown liquid. Two knights dressed in full costume also attended the ceremony, along with celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton. Stause and G Flip first met at a Halloween party in October 2021. G Flip then enlisted Stause to feature in their music video for Get Me Outta Here. Stause confirmed her relationship with the Australian musician in May 2022, during Selling Sunset's reunion episode. In July 2022, Stause and G Flip secretly tied the knot in Las Vegas in July 2022. They then renewed their vows a year later in a ceremony in Palm Springs in July 2023. In July 2024, the couple held a third ceremony in Melbourne while they were in Australia celebrating Stause's 43rd birthday. Speaking to Us weekly in May, G Flip revealed they have a goal to wed Stause every year. 'I think it's really healthy and it's good to update your vows every year. I think all couples should do it,' G Flip said. 'I reckon it makes you stronger, looking your person in the eyes and promising them new things every year.' Strause added: 'We normally plan it a week out, so it's super last-minute and then it's more spontaneous. 'We don't ever want to take the fun out of it, so it becomes a chore. That's the only rule: It can't be stressful. 'If you're newlyweds every year, that must help keep things spicy.'
