Maalik Box Office Day 5: RajKummar Rao's Film Inches Close To Rs 20-Crore Mark

News1816-07-2025
Maalik opened with Rs 3.75 crore on Friday and witnessed a significant growth on Saturday and Sunday with a collection of Rs 5.25 crore on each day.
Maalik, the RajKummar Rao starrer gangster drama, has been struggling at the box office to get momentum. This could be due to its still competition with films like Superman and Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan. Despite that, the film maintained its steady grip on its first Tuesday and collected Rs 2 crore Nett in India, as per sacnilk.com. With this, Maalik's total 5-Day collection comes to Rs 18 crore in India.
On Monday, the film saw a significant drop in the numbers with a collection of just Rs 1.75 crore, its lowest single-day total so far. However, Tuesday (July 15) turned out to be a surprising day for the maker as Maalik witnessed growth at the box office on day 5. This could be the result of a positive word of mouth from the audience and low ticket prices on Tuesday at several theatres.
In the coming week, RajKummar's film shows might decrease as Saiyaara, Tanvi: The Great and Nikita Roy are releasing in cinema halls this Friday.
Maalik opened with Rs 3.75 crore on Friday and witnessed a significant growth on Saturday and Sunday with a collection of Rs 5.25 crore on each day.
Helmed by Pulkit and produced by Tips, the film also features Manushi Chillar, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Anshumaan Pushkar, Swanand Kirkire, Saurabh Sachdeva and Saurabh Shukla in pivotal roles.
Maalik follows the story of Deepak, a farmer's son who rises to power as a gangster in Allahabad (now Prayagraj) during the 1980s. The movie explores his journey from a simple man to a feared figure, driven by ambition and personal loss, and his entanglement in the socio-political landscape of the time.
The film marks RajKummar's first action thriller. Recently, during an interaction with Zoom, he shared that he had received offers for action films in the past as well, but was waiting for the right script. He said, 'There's a lot more inside me to explore as an actor that I haven't done before. Maalik was definitely one of the few things I wanted to do, and I was waiting for the proper script. It's not like I hadn't been offered action films before, but the story wasn't there. For me, action is more than just action; there must be a story, and action should be a part of it."
Up next, he will be seen in the comedy-entertainer Toaster with Sanya Malhotra and in Stree 3.

Son of Sardaar 2 opens lower than Son of Sardaar in India - Day One Box Office comparison

Son of Sardaar 2, starring Ajay Devgn, Mrunal Thakur, Ravi Kishan and others, has begun its box office run. Serving as the sequel to 2012 comedy film, Son Of Sardaar, the second instalment opened with a below-par figure. Son of Sardaar 2 opens lower than the 2012 released first instalment Directed by Vijay Kumar Arora, Son of Sardaar 2 debuted with just Rs 6 crore to Rs 6.50 crore net on its opening day, today. It is not only a dull start but also a lower figure than the opening day figure of its first instalment. For the record, Son Of Sardaar had collected Rs 9.50 crore net on its opening day. Even if one doesn't consider ticket inflation, the opening day figure of Son Of Sardaar 2 still looks dwarf in front of its prequel as the first film had faced a tough competition with Shah Rukh Khan 's Jab Tak Hai Jaan. The latest outing of Ajay Devgn also faced a clash with Dharma Productions' Dhadak 2, however, both have nominal buzz among the audience. Day 1 box office comparison of Son Of Sardaar and Son of Sardaar 2: Movie Net India Day 1 Son of Sardaar (2012) Rs 9.50 crore Son of Sardaar 2 (2025) Rs 6.75 crore The original movie had Sanjay Dutt, Juhi Chawla, and Sonakshi Sinha as the three main characters apart from Ajay Devgn. Moreover, Salman Khan had made a guest appearance in the movie, which took its buzz a notch higher. Son of Sardaar ended up doing Rs 88 crore net in its lifetime and emerged as a HIT venture. Looking at the current trends and initial word-of-mouth of Son Of Sardaar 2, it is likely to wrap its theatrical run much lower than its prequel. Don't be surprised if it ends up collecting just half of its first part. The movie has opened to average to poor reviews, which are hampering its business. If the movie had met with superlative word-of-mouth, things would have been much better. Stay tuned to Pinkvilla for more updates. F1, directed by Joseph Kosinski and starring Brad Pitt, Kerry Condon, Damson Idris, Javier Bardem and others, is still holding its own at the Indian box office. The film's collections have not been affected, despite it losing all of its high performing IMAX screens, and despite facing new local competition every week. After 5 weeks, the movie's collections stand at Rs 88 crore and it still has some steam left. There is news that the movie will release in IMAX screens and if that happens on a large scale, a Rs 100 crore touch-and go finish can't be ruled out. For now, it looks to cross Mission: Impossible 8 to become the highest Hollywood grosser of the summer. Now, it is expected to end its run in the USD 580 - 600 million vicinity, and who knows, the late legs can help it even go beyond USD 600 million. There's no doubt that F1 is the summer's biggest surprise, even though there have been more profitable films all summer. Lilo and Stitch, How To Train Your Dragon, Jurassic World: Rebirth and Superman are bigger hits but none of them surprised the trackers more than F1 did.
