A TRAINSPOTTING star has hit out at a trigger warning being included on Irvine Welsh's new book.
Actor Simon Weir, 52, has defended the writer after he was slammed for using racist and misogynistic terms in Men In Love.

Welsh's follow-up to his best-seller has been branded 'juvenile' and 'embarrassing' after women characters were described using phrases 'posh f***y' and 'chunky bird' and a slur for Chinese was printed.
Fears over the book's content saw publishers force him to include a disclaimer.
Simon — who played Jailhouse in film T2 — has been helping Welsh promote Men In Love across the country.
He told The Scottish Sun on Sunday: 'The trigger warning is an unnecessary nonsense.
'What do you expect from an Irvine Welsh book?
'People would be disappointed if there wasn't offensive language.
'But the point that Irvine was making on tour repeatedly is these are the words of fictional characters.
'They are not the views of the author.'
Men In Love picks up where 1993's Trainspotting left off, with protagonist Mark Renton on the run after ripping off pals Sick Boy, Spud and Begbie following a drug deal.
Chapters are told from the point of view of the characters as they attempt to kick their heroin and alcohol addictions to pursue romance.

Potential partners are described as 'willowy' and 'toothsome', while women 'must' have 'mental health issues' which are 'best to err on the side of anorexia, rather than obesity'.
Another character is called a 'specky shaftoid' for wearing glasses.
Welsh, 66, grew up in Leith, Edinburgh, the working-class son of a dock worker and a waitress.
He says the language used is an accurate portrayal of attitudes the late 80s in the capital's council estates where Men In Love is set.
An 'author's note' inserted against his will says the work 'aims to replicate the speech patterns commonly used by many people' and is 'not an endorsement (or even condemnation) of such behaviours'.
Simon, from Hardgate, near Glasgow, added: 'Language evolves all the time and phrases that were used 30 or 40 years ago are not used now.
'I am worried about any censorship of this sort because it could change dramatic scenes and storylines if you can't use the language of a character or of that era.
'But if you really are easily offended then you probably should not be reading an Irvine Welsh novel.'
Simon had to film his own offensive scene when he went full-frontal for his role in Trainspotting 2.
That's after his character goes 'mental' when he realises he is being secretly filmed while having sex with a prostitute by Sick Boy (Jonny Lee Miller) who blackmails her clients.
He recalls: 'When I went for the audition Danny Boyle just held up a pair of boots and went, 'That's your costume'. So I knew it was full on from the start.'
However, Oscar-winning director Danny was so impressed by the Scot's performance he gave his uncredited character a name.
Simon adds: 'The part was originally just called Punter Two. But Danny had asked me to just ad-lib some dialogue so I came up with this horrific line, where I shout 'Give it to me Jailhouse-style doll.'
'I was expecting that to get cut, but Danny said he loved it and told me 'You're no longer Punter Two, I'm going to call you jailhouse'. So I got a credit at the end of the film too.'
Fraser Hudghton, director of Freedom Speech Union Scotland, said: 'Irvine Welsh's work is a rip-roaring ride through Scottish working class life. It is fearless fiction.
"You're not reading the Trainspotting sequel and mistaking it for Woman's Weekly. New writers are forced to self-censor just to be published - cutting off the creative juice at source.
"Just think of all the brilliant working class Scottish writers who can't get a book deal today just in case they upset someone with blue hair. It's a sin; publishers should quit deferring to DEI voodoo-meisters and get on with the job of letting everyone be heard.'

Being held in Wrexham for the first time in 14 years, hundreds descended on the Maes in Isycoed to celebrate Welsh culture and traditions. There were a host of competitions and shows taking place across the site, as well as activities for people of all ages. Traders showed off their produce at the dozens of stalls set up in the main area of the site, whilst numerous food vendors served up the best they had to offer. Into the night and there were a range of live performances across different venues at the Maes, from the pavilion to Ty Gwerin. Earlier in the day, Rhosllannerchrugog's very own Mark Lewis Jones addressed the crowd at the Maes. The famous actor from Wrexham has been named President of the Eisteddfod for the week and made a speech to kick the weeklong festival off. In his speech he said: "My grandfather, Jonathan Dafis, sang in the pavilion many times as a loyal member of the Rhos Male Voice Choir, as well as helping to organise the festival when he came to the area in 1945, but somehow when I was growing up I didn't feel that the Eisteddfod was relevant to me. And it took me a while to understand that I was wrong." He added his wife, Gwenno, runs a clothes shop in Cardiff, and would regularly hire a stall on the Maes. "One of my favourite memories of coming to the Eisteddfod (with Gwenno), was meeting and chatting with people who had travelled from afar to be part of the festival. "It became clear to me how essential the Eisteddfod is, supporting and promoting the arts in our country. I now have four sons, each one appreciating the importance of the festival, and Jacob, the youngest, is working on the Maes this week. "I have come to understand what Taid understood from the beginning - that the Eisteddfod is for everyone, for everyone. And if he was still with us I know he would be here, in the front row, with a proud smile on his face when he finally saw his grandson on stage."

TikToker Lucia, who goes by @luciasisland, shared the moment the battered case landed at her front door and admitted that she was suspicious from the start. Hopes of a case 'stuffed to the brim with cash and mini Kellys' were quickly dashed, though she joked it could've belonged to someone brave enough to check in an unlocked bag. In fact, Lucia said she knew someone who did exactly that including putting her engagement ring inside an unlocked suitcase. "Wild," she added. Unwrapping the suitcase, Lucia found it was 'battered' with a broken handle. The dodgy smell didn't help either and she admitted she feared the case might be packed with a man's 'dirty pants and socks'. But when she cracked it open, the mystery started to unravel. Lucia discovered the suitcase likely belonged to a Chinese girl, with the first items falling out being two Chinese books and a stash of period pads. She searched the bag for ID or return tags but came up empty-handed. 'There was nothing,' she said – no purse, no name, no way to trace it back. As the content creator continued to rummage through, she began to find random items such as a pair of men's shoes, little boys' shorts and an XXL women's dress. Lucia began to grow suspicious and even suggested the possibility of staff pre-opening suitcases and removing valuables before selling them. She said: "Does the company that I bought the case from open up all the suitcases, take out all valuables, jewellery and cash, and then top up the suitcases with other people's bits?". Fans were quick to agree, one user said: "of course they take out the valuables!". The clip racked up thousands of views and comments, with some fans eager to see what else she unearthed. However, others were curious as to why she'd want "other people's stuff". One user commented: "Why would you even buy other people's stuff". Another user said: "Buying someone else's suitcase just don't sit right to me." A third added: "I would be scared to open in my house."
