Casualty's Charles Venn reveals he discovered sister's tragic death while filming show
Casualty star Charles Venn, who plays Jacob Masters on the BBC medical drama, has opened up about the heartbreaking moment he discovered his sister had died while filming
Casualty actor Charles 'Chucky' Venn has shared the emotional turmoil he experienced while filming the popular BBC series.
Portraying paramedic Jacob Masters, known for his supportive nature on-screen, Charles found comfort in his castmates after receiving devastating personal news just before a scheduled break from shooting.
Only two days shy of his intended annual leave, the 52-year-old Londoner learned of his sister's sudden death.
In the midst of grief, he continued with his shooting commitments, leaning on his co-stars for support, reflecting on them as family.
Describing to the Mirror the most difficult part of being involved in a medical drama, Charles said: "It's about being switched on and delivering when the camera says 'action'.
"You might be all over the place in rehearsals, just figuring it out, mapping out what's going on and how you're going to deliver this.

Charles added, touching upon his personal struggles: "We're humans like everybody else, and then we go through what we go through. Speaking for myself, I've had challenges and still somehow being able to deliver, that's the hardest challenge."
He continued: "In my case, when my junior sister passed away, unexpectedly, this would have been three years ago on June 7. I was in my hotel room. I had to go to work the next day. She officially passed away around 4am. I had two days at work before I was due to go home," reports the Mirror.
"In my insane mind, I thought I could get through those two days. I really thought I would. It was still very raw in my head and my brain.
"I came to work, I was subdued, anybody who knows me would tell you I'm lively, full of energy, but I was very subdued, and it was still reeling, what just happened was very raw."

Reflecting on the support he received at work, he continued, "I believe I got through the scene, I think I did, someone asked me 'Are you ok?' in my dressing room and of course, I wasn't. They were kind enough to let me go home.
"But it's the that same thing of despite what's going on, the challenges, being able to put that to the side and deliver a performance, play the scene, play what's required for the character to tell his story - that's the biggest challenge."
Charles, who first made waves in Casualty back on July 18, 2015, has become a beloved character among the audience and co-workers over nearly a decade.

When speaking about his tenure on the show, he expressed surprise at its length: "I never foresaw that," referring to his long-standing role.

Expanding on his feelings towards the supportive environment on set, Charles remarked, "It's such a familiar feeling here and you feel as though you're not going through anything on your own.
"There's always someone to talk to and that's beautiful, it's really refreshing, somewhat rare. Any changes, interfaceable, it doesn't matter. As a team, guaranteed, we'll get through it together."
Casualty airs Sundays at 8:50pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

John Torode supported by Danny Jones after own scandal and other celebs standing by him
MasterChef host John Torode allegedly found out he has been axed from the cooking show after 20 years through BBC News as he is accused of using racist language John Torode has received the support of fellow celebrities after he was sensationally axed from MasterChef last night. The presenter and TV chef, 59, reportedly discovered his career on the show had come to an end through BBC News. He claimed he was never contacted by the BBC or MasterChef's production company Banijay about their decision not to renew his contract on the cooking programme he's been part of for 20 years. The decision came just hours after Torode unmasked himself as the person accused of using racist language on set. The claim came from an investigation into his former co-star Gregg Wallace's behaviour. Torode claimed he had no memory of making the comment and denies it ever happened. However, the BBC and Banijay both confirmed he has been axed from the show and his contract has not been renewed. Torode took to his Instagram late last night to address the scandal. He said: "Although I haven't heard from anyone at the BBC or Banijay - I am seeing and reading that I've been "sacked" from MasterChef and I repeat that I have no recollection of what I'm accused of. The enquiry could not even state the date or year of when I am meant to have said something wrong. "I'd hoped that I'd have some say in my exit from a show I've worked on since its relaunch in 2005, but events in last few days seem to have prevented that. Over the past few months, I have been considering my life and the shape of it now and in the future. Celebrity MasterChef, which I recently filmed with Grace Dent along with two fantastic Christmas specials will be my last. "Personally, I have loved every minute working on MasterChef, but it's time to pass the cutlery to someone else. For whoever takes over, love it as I have. I will watch fondly from afar as I now focus on the many other exciting projects that I have been working towards. "My tummy will be grateful for a rest after 20 years of eating, but what a joy it has been. Life is everchanging and ever moving & sometimes personal happiness and fulfilment lay elsewhere. Thank you for the many years of MasterChef. JOHN TORODE." Torode has since received the support of McFly singer Danny Jones, who liked the statement on Instagram and knows all too well what it is like to be centre of scandal. Earlier this year, married Danny was swept into a media storm when he was filmed kissing Love Island star Maura Higgins. After trying to stay low and brush off the attention into his home life, Danny went on to issue his own groveling apology to his wife Georgia and their seven-year-old son Cooper. He has since returned to the spotlight and embarked on a tour with his band. Torode has also been supported by Britain's Got Talent judge Amanda Holden, who liked his statement. She had also been keen to share her stance on the scandal earlier in the week when she also liked his previous statement. Piers Morgan branded Torode's axe a 'witch trial' as he fumed online: "Have I got this right? The BBC has fired @JohnTorode1 because he allegedly made a racially insensitive comment in a bar EIGHT YEARS ago, that he immediately apologised for, and now doesn't remember ever saying? Salem wants its witch trials back." The former MasterChef host has kept comments off on his latest posts. A statement from Banijay UK said on Tuesday evening: "In response to John Torode's statement, it is important to stress that Banijay UK takes this matter incredibly seriously. "The legal team at Lewis Silkin that investigated the allegations relating to Gregg Wallace also substantiated an accusation of highly offensive racist language against John Torode which occurred in 2018. "This matter has been formally discussed with John Torode by Banijay UK, and whilst we note that John says he does not recall the incident, Lewis Silkin have upheld the very serious complaint. Banijay UK and the BBC are agreed that we will not renew his contract on MasterChef." The BBC also said: "John Torode has identified himself as having an upheld allegation of using racist language against him. This allegation, which involves an extremely offensive racist term being used in the workplace, was investigated and substantiated by the independent investigation led by the law firm, Lewis Silkin. John Torode denies the allegation. "He has stated he has no recollection of the alleged incident and does not believe that it happened. He also says that any racial language is wholly unacceptable in any environment. "The BBC takes this upheld finding extremely seriously. We will not tolerate racist language of any kind and, as we have already said, we told Banijay UK, the makers of MasterChef, that action must be taken. John Torode's contract on MasterChef will not be renewed.'

Hollyoaks confirms major Joel twist that turns everything on its head
Hollyoaks spoilers follow for Wednesday's (July 16) episode that is now available to view on Channel 4 streaming. The episode in question will air on E4 on at 7pm. There's nothing like a great big twist right before a soap wedding to throw everything on its head – and that's exactly what Hollyoaks served up during its last episode of the week. With groom-to-be / serial killer Jez Blake (Jeremy Sheffield) all set to wed John Paul McQueen (James Sutton), he confided in Robbie Roscoe (Charlie Wernham) about how happy he is in life right now. In fact, he reckons he's never been happier. Robbie, who is being held captive by the murderer at the allotment, listened intently as Jez explained the catalyst in what led to such overwhelming joy. 'None of this would have happened,' he said. 'I wouldn't be in the happiest place I've ever been in my life if I hadn't killed Tommy and blamed Joel for it'. Talk about a twist . To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video The Tommy that Jez is referring to is, of course, Tommy Odenkirk (Brandon Fellows), the fake therapist who recorded his murderous confessions and used them to blackmail him. Tommy was murdered earlier this year, with Joel Dexter (Rory Douglas-Speed) – who was led by Tommy to believe that he'd killed someone – convinced that he was to blame. Joel confessed to the police and was subsequently jailed. But it turns out that Joel is actually innocent – it was Jez who committed the crime, framing Joel for it. Cleo McQueen (Nadine Mulkerrin), meanwhile, made it quite clear that she doesn't want Joel in her unborn baby's life due to the fact he's killed someone. If only she knew! More Trending And on the subject of shock twists, that wasn't the only one in store for fans during the episode in question, with Bobby Costello (Zak Sutcliffe) learning from Martha (Sherrie Hewson) that Jez was the one who murdered his social worker. With Jez believing that all his loose ends have been tied up ahead of tying the knot, the question is: will the truth of his heinous crimes come spilling out via Bobby? And will Joel get justice? EXCLUSIVE Prince William channels Beckham's style and classic Hollywood charm while also appearing nearly identical to another VERY famous A-lister, according to expert
Prince William 's appearance at Wimbledon on Sunday was a sign of the 'very glamorous future of our monarchy' with a touch of Hollywood, according to an expert. All eyes were on Kate, Princess of Wales, who made a surprise appearance at the Women's Final on Saturday where she wore a striking white Self-Portrait dress and her iconic Wimbledon bow. Royal observers had speculated whether Kate would be seen at the championship this year after she pulled out of Ascot and spoke openly last month about her challenges following her cancer treatment. The following day, the Princess was accompanied by two of her children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, alongside William, who observers couldn't help but point out how handsome he looked. William, named the world's sexiest bald man for two consecutive years, usually sticks to autumn colours but wore a pair of crisp, white linen chinos and a double-breasted blazer to attend the tennis tournament. One MailOnline commenter, aptly making a joke about the tennis tournament, wrote: 'William is serving!' A Threads user posted two pictures of William at Wimbledon on Sunday with the caption: 'That's got to be the hottest heir apparent that I have ever seen. 'That suit is tailored unlike any suit I have ever seen! When did he become so good-looking?' Prince William, named the world's sexiest bald man for two consecutive years, usually sticks to autumn colours but wore a pair of crisp, white linen chinos and a double-breasted blazer to attend the tennis tournament The thread, which received more than 2.4K likes, included comments from people commenting on how 'handsome' and 'hot' he looked. A comment beneath the thread read: 'William looks amazing... He definitely brought the heat to Wimbledon.' Hilariously, William's outfit was almost a total match for Hollywood actor, Henry Cavill, who also wore a navy blazer and white trousers and an almost identical shirt at the All England Club. Brand and Culture Expert, Nick Ede, told MailOnline: 'William is looking really good and it looks like he's embracing his 40s with style and sophistication. 'You can see that he's been grooming and also his style, although it has not changed for many years, looks smart and much more tailored than usual. 'Traditionally, the Royal Family have always gone for suits that are well-fitted but not particularly tailored. I think he's taking a leaf out of his friend David Beckham's book and showing that you can look great at any age. 'This is our future King who was a poster boy for many teens when he was younger and now he's beginning to take care of himself and looking more like a Hollywood leading man than a traditional royal. 'He's tall, fit and handsome and it feels like this glow up, along with Kate, shows them to be the very glamorous future of our monarchy.' William is known to be a long-time friend of David Beckham, 50, who was knighted last month in recognition of services to sport and to charity. Husband to fashion designer Victoria Beckham (aka Posh Spice) David is known for his overtly masculine style, signature leather jacket and muted colour palette. And it seems William could be following suit. Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams told MailOnline: 'William's outfit at Wimbledon shows his fashion sense is reflecting his transition from heir to the throne to King one day. 'He looked stunning, his crisp white trousers were symbolic of the Wimbledon dress code, especially as Catherine had looked stunning in a white Self-Portrait two-piece outfit on the Saturday. 'His white shirt was complemented by a blazer and the effect was striking as it was intended to be. 'His beard has given him a rather rugged look which has enormous appeal. 'He has always been stylish, tending to prefer autumnal colours, but his outfit at Wimbledon reminded me of Queen Elizabeth's comment 'I must be seen to be believed".' Kate, known for her sophisticated working wardrobe, has a great eye for fashion and once worked as an accessories buyer for Jigsaw. On X, one royal fan asked: 'Can we talk about William's white pants?!?' Beneath this a user replied: 'Unexpected choice but ate nonetheless.' Another X user expressed their approval for William's appearance by captioning an image of him in the Royal Box: 'Prince William, whatever you're doing or eating, keep at it. 'Because honestly, you're looking hot. And whoever told you to wear that outfit? Keep them close. They clearly know exactly what they're doing.' William also looked dapper on Friday during The Royal Charity Polo Cup 2025. The Prince previously played in charity polo matches with his estranged younger brother Prince Harry, who lives in Santa Barbara with wife Meghan Markle, son Archie and daughter Lilibet. Ironically, it seems William is the one bringing Hollywood glamour. This comes as The Mail on Sunday exclusively reported that King Charles and Harry's senior aides held a secret peace summit, marking the first significant move to resolving their family feud. Sources said last week's meeting was the initial step in a 'rapprochement process' to restore the broken relationship between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the rest of the Royal Family. It is not known whether it was Charles or Harry who extended the olive branch, but insiders said the summit is the strongest sign yet of the determination on both sides to resolve the bitter House of Windsor feud. 'There's a long road ahead, but a channel of communication is now open for the first time in years,' said a source. 'There was no formal agenda, just casual drinks. There were things both sides wanted to talk about.' Harry was represented by Meredith Maines, his chief communications officer and head of his household in Montecito, California, who flew in from Los Angeles. She met Tobyn Andreae, the King's communications secretary, at the Royal Over-Seas League. Also present was Liam Maguire, who runs the Sussexes' PR team in the UK. It was Ms Maines who organised Harry's BBC interview in May in which he said he 'would love a reconciliation' with the Royal Family, but that the King 'won't speak to me because of this security stuff'. The Duke was referring to the removal of his automatic police security detail in Britain, which he called an 'old-fashioned establishment stitch-up' and suggested his father could have resolved the situation. Ms Maines is understood to have reported straight to the Duke. She is based at the Sussexes' £15 million mansion, from where they conduct their affairs, rather than using a separate office. A seasoned Silicon Valley strategist with past roles at Google and a software company, Ms Maines spends most days at Meghan and Harry's home managing their day-to-day operations and overseeing a team of eight staff. She is the most senior aide in the newly formed 'Sussex Royal Household', which was formed last month in a bid to emulate the rigid hierarchical structure Harry operated in when he was a working member of the family at Kensington Palace. Ms Maines is said to have masterminded the unveiling of the duchess's Netflix show With Love, Meghan, and her lifestyle brand As Ever. Nick Ede said: 'I think it's interesting that these peace talks are happening. 'Charles has been sick and no one knows the extent of his illness but he is probably getting things in order for when he decides to pass on the Crown to William. 'I am sure that he wants to spend the rest of his life with a relationship with his son and his grandchildren. 'It will be interesting to see how this maps out but I'm sure both parties will want some kind of resolution before it's too late and they regret their actions 'I think there is still a long way to go with Brand Sussex – they still don't know what they stand for and who their target audience is. 'Harry's private life is just that, private. And although he's used it to make money like any kiss-and-tell celebrity, he also does have a lot of life ahead of him and a family that protected him and loved him for many years. 'I think that he could possibly carve out a relationship with the King and I hope he does.' This brings fresh hope to the possibility of a reconciliation between the brothers and King Charles. In the meantime, royal observers will keep a close eye on William's evolving wardrobe.
