Emma Stone enchants with her grown out pixie crop

Vogue Singapore8 hours ago

We've seen the beauty realm evolve in a multitude of ways over the past decade. Long gone are the days when celebrity beauty ops would be dedicated solely to the red carpet with techniques used often obscured from the public eye. We've fast moved on to an aspirational age of social media: how-to tutorials by the professional artists themselves, established content creators sharing their own cosmetic hacks and even full-face routines by some of the biggest A-listers. And we've all emerged the better for it.
It's undeniable—the likes of Instagram and TikTok have given us all a space for unabashed self-expression. And for some, an artfully made-up mien or a customised change of talons are the perfect canvases to do so. Pop culture has had significant influence in the sphere. Experimentation is abound, with novice creators and popular personalities alike attempting to ace a make-up look that is all the rage or share a thematic one-off look for others to recreate.
Then begs the question: how do we sieve out the best of all? Make-up trends surely begin somewhere, and learning from our seasoned celebrities is never a bad place to start if you're feeling overwhelmed. Vogue Singapore might be of help to you on that front—with our monthly curation of captivating beauty moments, courtesy of our favourite faces from Hollywood, the K-pop scene and more, just for that fresh jazz of inspiration.
This month, June heralded the start of the northern summer—and there's plenty of pointers to heed for a seasonal beauty refresh. Celebrities like Sofia Richie Grainge and Somi make stunning cases for the chic bob haircut, while Emma Stone's grown out pixie crop is as alluring as it was when she debuted it. Conversely, on the beauty front, Jodie Comer and Nara Smith opted for romantic shades of berry pink and dusty rose for their Mediterranean make-up looks.

The allure of Emma's angelic pixie crop is only enhanced by Nina Park's make-up artistry. Pairing prettily with her tousled strands, a classic jet-black eyeliner and mascara combination adds a touch of definition to her warm-toned base. Getty

As the second season of Wednesday draws closer, Jenna Ortega looked every part the gothic glamour girl at Netflix's Tudum event. Her hair stylist Cesar Ramirez '[drew] inspiration from vintage hairstyles [in] homage to iconic Hollywood' while creating this defined-curl hair look. @sofiagrainge

The razor-sharp bob remains an eternally chic crop. Just ask Sofia Richie Grainge, who debuted her own 'French bob' at the hands of hair stylist George Curran while on holiday in the South of France. @somsomi0309

Another star making the case for the classy chop is Somi. Poised to make a comeback with her new song Extra next month, she shows off her own shortened locks in a promotional still. @simoneashley

Trust celebrity make-up artist Nina Park to serve up a bombshell-worthy beauty look. On Mia Goth, a winged smokey eye, Old Hollywood waves and a dusty pink pout more than fulfil this criteria. @naraaziza

13 / 14 Jodie Comer
We've been loving taking in the soft yet impactful make-up seen on Jodie Comer whilst she does press for 28 Years Later. Seen here in Paris, make-up artist Naoko Sofia Patrizia Scintu created her classic beauty base, whilst hair stylist Christian Wood tended to her wavy tresses. @konichan7

For a Chanel event, Nana matches her vampy fit to tousled hair and lashings of jet-black liner to make an arresting impression.

BBC regrets not cutting Bob Vylan Glastonbury livestream, calls chants antisemitic

Guitarist and singer Bobby Vylan of the punk-rap duo Bob Vylan delivers a message in support of Palestinians during his performance at the Glastonbury music festival, in Pilton, Britain, June 28, 2025, in this still image from video obtained from social media. ROCKAWAY PARK/via REUTERS LONDON - Britain's BBC said on Monday it regretted not stopping the livestream of Bob Vylan's set at Glastonbury music festival after a member of the punk-rap duo led what the broadcaster called antisemitic chants against Israel's military. Saturday's set included on-stage chants of "death, death to the IDF", a reference to the Israel Defense Forces fighting a war in Gaza, and "From the river to the sea, Palestine must be, will be, inshallah, it will be free". The national broadcaster's decision to keep the set streaming live was condemned by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and drew scrutiny from media regulator Ofcom. "From the river to the sea" is a hotly disputed phrase in Israel, often taken as a call for Israel's destruction and a denial of its right to exist, although many Palestinians dispute that. The BBC, which broadcasts the festival in southwest England, issued a warning on screen for strong and discriminatory language while the set was being streamed online, but said on Monday it should have gone further. "The antisemitic sentiments expressed by Bob Vylan were utterly unacceptable and have no place on our airwaves," the BBC said in a statement. "The team were dealing with a live situation but with hindsight we should have pulled the stream during the performance," the BBC added. "We regret this did not happen." 'I SAID WHAT I SAID' The rap duo's lead vocalist, who also goes by the stage name Bobby Vylan, wrote on Instagram: "I said what I said," adding he had been "inundated with messages of both support and hatred". "Teaching our children to speak up for the change they want and need is the only way that we make this world a better place," he said in the post, apparently in reference to the incident. Bob Vylan, known for their mix of grime and punk rock, have been outspoken about their support for Palestinians in the past. Their songs tackle a range of issues including racism, homophobia and the class divide. The BBC said it would look at its guidance around live events so that in future its teams were clear on what is acceptable content to be shown. Earlier on Monday, Ofcom said it was "very concerned" about the BBC's livestream of the performance and that it "clearly has questions to answer". "We have been speaking to the BBC over the weekend and we are obtaining further information as a matter of urgency, including what procedures were in place to ensure compliance with its own editorial guidelines," an Ofcom spokesperson said via email. Police have said they were considering whether to launch an investigation, but did not name Bob Vylan or Irish rap band Kneecap, who also performed at Glastonbury and criticised Israel. The Israeli embassy in London also condemned the incident, while Starmer demanded answers from the BBC on "how these scenes came to be broadcast." Political statements by musicians on stage have been in focus since a member of Kneecap was charged last month with a terrorism offence for allegedly displaying a flag of Hezbollah, the Iranian-backed militant group that is proscribed as a terrorist organisation in Britain. He denies the offence. Israel has repeatedly denied committing abuses in its war in Gaza which began when Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, killing nearly 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and taking 251 others hostage into Gaza. Israel launched a military campaign that has killed more than 56,000 Palestinians, the majority of them civilians, according to local health authorities in Gaza. PHOTO: ST FILE Taiwan's Jam Hsiao to perform in Singapore in October, will sing for three hours Taiwanese singer Jam Hsiao will be staging a concert in Singapore in October. The show's confirmation came from the 38-year-old's lips, when he attended the 35th anniversary celebration of health and wellness company Best World Lifestyle as a special guest. During the June 26 event at Singapore Expo, the star took the stage. He sang rock number Princess (2009) while holding a yellow microphone and dressed in a grey get-up and black tie. Local concert promoters Live Nation Singapore and One Production posted a video of the performance to their Instagram pages on June 28. In it, Hsiao addressed the crowd and said: 'I will be coming to Singapore to hold a concert (in October). Hope to see you all there. We will sing for about three hours then, okay?' Details such as the date and location are not yet available. He last held a concert here in 2018 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, and also headlined the Sundown Festival in 2023 at Pasir Panjang Power Station. While the Golden Melody Award winner appeared cheerful onstage, he recently had to deal with the death of one of his dogs. Gabi was hospitalised in Taipei due to health conditions a few days before the singer had to leave for Shenzhen to hold a concert on June 21. In a post on June 24, the singer said he and his wife and manager, Summer Lin, had stayed with the dog for a while before they left . When they arrived in Shenzhen, things in Taipei seemed to be under control. However, before the final rehearsal for the Shenzhen show, they received the news that Gabi had died. Hsiao wrote: 'Summer and I cried loudly in the lounge for a long time. I almost collapsed on the day of the performance, and still shed tears during the final curtain call.' On June 22, he took the earliest flight back to Taipei to deal with the dog's funeral. He said: 'Our whole family needs time... Because I have to let you know, she is my child. 'May Gabi be happy and joyful in heaven, away from illness.' Join ST's Telegram channel and get the latest breaking news delivered to you.

Beyonce pauses concert after car prop mishap left her dangling over crowds

Beyonce performs at her concert in Houston on June 28. PHOTO: PARKWOOD/INSTAGRAM A car prop in which Beyonce sang high above the crowds suddenly tilted sharply to one side at her concert in Houston on June 28. PHOTO: PARKWOOD/INSTAGRAM NEW YORK - American superstar singer Beyonce gave thousands of fans a scare during a concert in Houston on June 28, as a car prop in which she sang high above the crowds suddenly tilted sharply to one side in an apparent malfunction. The moment, which was caught on video, showed Beyonce wearing a white cowboy hat with an American flag by her side performing her song, 16 Carriages (2024), from the back of a red convertible when it slanted in the air over the crowds. 'Stop. Stop, stop, stop, stop. Stop,' Beyonce calmly announced as she paused the performance over the roaring crowd, which called for her to be brought down. The car and Beyonce were harnessed to cables and she could be seen gripping one as the vehicle continued to dangle over concertgoers, who held up their illuminated smartphones like candles. Beyonce, 43, was slowly lowered to safety, much to the joy and relief of her fans who cheered her. 'OMG, she scared me,'' one fan shared in a video. In another clip when she was back onstage, Beyonce told the crowd, 'If ever I fall, I know y'all would catch me.' It was not clear what led to the mishap. Parkwood Entertainment, Beyonce's management company, said in an Instagram post that 'a technical mishap caused the flying car, a prop Beyonce uses to circle the stadium, and see her fans up close, to tilt'. The company said: 'She was quickly lowered and no one was injured.' A representative for NRG Stadium, where the concert took place, did not give further details. In a compilation of images from the show, the company also included one of Beyonce performing from the dangling prop. The concert, in her hometown, was the first of her two shows at NRG Stadium last weekend. The concerts are part of her international Cowboy Carter Tour, which opened in April in Los Angeles, to support her 2024 album, Cowboy Carter, which won Album of the Year and Best Country Album at the Grammys in 2025.
