Manager Danny Rohl leaves Sheffield Wednesday by mutual consent
The German became the youngest boss in the Football League when he took on his first managerial role in October 2023, at a time when Wednesday seemed destined for relegation from the Sky Bet Championship.
Rohl, a former assistant of the German national team as well as Southampton and Bayern Munich, turned around a sinking ship and last season led the club to a respectable 12th place in the second tier.
However, with less than a fortnight to go until the start of the new Championship campaign, the Owls, who travel to Leicester on August 10, have revealed the 36-year-old has left his position.
'Sheffield Wednesday can confirm the departure of manager Danny Rohl by mutual consent,' a club statement read.

Wednesday also confirmed backroom staff members Sascha Lense, Chris Powell, Neil Thompson and Sal Bibbo have followed Rohl, linked with a string of jobs in England and the Bundesliga, out the door.
Assistant Henrik Pedersen remains in South Yorkshire, having put pen to paper on a new deal earlier this month, and he is now the favourite to replace Rohl as manager although no announcement was made.
Rohl's future at Hillsborough had been uncertain for several months as he said after their final game of last season that he had made his position to the club's hierarchy 'very clear'.
Wednesday are under a three-window fee restriction imposed by the English Football League over late payments to players, and are also under a transfer embargo, while owner Dejphon Chansiri is looking to sell the club.
Rohl said on Instagram: 'A very special time is coming to an end and I am incredibly grateful for the experiences we have shared over 21 unforgettable months together.
'I thank our chairman for his faith and giving me the opportunity to take my first steps as a manager.
'I thank my players for such a successful collaboration, your tireless commitment and for being great humans. I am proud of all of your personal resilience and efforts.
'This summer has been difficult and, in the end, the club and I came to the mutual decision to part ways. I understand the different thoughts and reactions to everything that has been going on during these past few months.
'I am extremely grateful to have had this opportunity. Even during the difficult moments and setbacks, I have always continued to feel the support from everyone. I take so many special moments away with me that will remain in my heart.
'We achieved a miracle together and that will always be something truly exceptional. I wish everyone associated with Wednesday my very best. I will never forget you. The Gaffer.'

Ballyduff captain Jack O'Sullivan steeped in Kerry GAA tradition
When Gerald McKenna passed on in April 2022, there was widespread sorrow in Kerry GAA circles. The Ballyduff native was one of the most progressive officials in the association's history and held a variety of roles at county, provincial, and national level in an illustrious top-table career. One of his accomplishments, during his term as county chairperson, was the appointment of Mick O'Dwyer as the manager of the senior footballers. That set one of the greatest dynasties in GAA history on course. Now his grandson, Jack O'Sullivan, is captain of the Ballyduff senior hurling side who face Abbeydorney in a repeat of last year's SHC final and Jack speaks fondly of his late grandfather. 'I grew up in GAA,' he says. 'GAA was always a main topic of conversation at the dinner table growing up.' But his grandfather, who was president of Kerry GAA when he died, was not a man to issue advice to Jack on his hurling and football exploits, because Gerald believed academia trumped everything. 'Ger was always much more life outside of GAA first, so education (was a priority),' he says. '(A) vice principal in Causeway for several years. Always been a man for come home from school, get your bit of work done, do your homework and all that, football and hurling come after that then. 'While there was always a lot of knowledge coming from him and I suppose you always are aware of that growing up, there was never any pressure when it came to playing or I suppose getting involved with teams. 'But naturally, when you grow up in that household, you do want to play your own part in it and luckily enough I had an interest in it, and I suppose always encouraged by him.' But Jack is one of the few current Ballyduff players who has a county medal despite this being their third final in four years. 'I started with the seniors in 2017. So I'm one of the few that were around last time we won a Championship, first year of it. 'And look, you see a lot of faces come and go over the years. It's a funny one. I think it's my age there now. So while you're playing, when you look back, it feels like a long time, but it isn't really.' But injury will prevent O'Sullivan from leading the team out in the county final. 'It's obviously disappointing to have an injury,' he says, 'and nobody likes missing games, but, at the same time, it's a team game. 'Paul Costello is more than able deputy.' He also notes steady improvement in his side's performances in four games so far in the championship. 'I feel the last couple of performances, especially late on both games were very, very strong,' he says. 'I think you're definitely seeing (maturity) amongst our young cohort. 'It takes time for a team to get to the level number one or number two maturity to actually win a championship. And we've contested two finals. Probably, under performed in both finals and that was more down to players than it was management in both cases. 'You'd hope that we can carry this on and maybe make that last step the next day.'

Man Utd able to buy Benjamin Sesko NOW without player sales thanks to Marcus Rashford's Barcelona loan transfer
MARCUS RASHFORD has helped give Manchester United the financial wriggle room to land top target Benjamin Sesko - without selling ANYBODY else before the summer window closes. And their determination to land Sesko, 22, has been sharpened by the financial benefits of Rashford's loan move to Barcelona. Advertisement The Catalan club agreed to take on Rashford's £16m annual wage bill, an agreement which made a significant dent in United's debit sheet. United also raised £20.7m from sell-on clauses including Anthony Elanga's move to Newcastle and the £5m paid by Chelsea to pull out of their deal to sign Jadon Sancho. And successful negotiations with Wolves and Brentford respectively as part of the signings of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo have also helped. Rather than paying the bulk of the £130m total fees up front, United agreed to pay in multiple instalments, spreading the cost. Advertisement Not qualifying for Europe this season means United do not have to stick to Uefa's limit of spending no more than 70 per cent of their annual income on transfers and wages. Amorim refuses to guarantee Hojlund Man Utd future amid Sesko transfer push But while the club does still have PSR issues to juggle with, they have eased slightly after the controversial club cuts programme ordered by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos. Nevertheless, the huge transfer fees paid over recent seasons have lumbered the club with significant 'amortisation' costs that are still being carried. It means that, if Sesko joins Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha in a £200m-plus attacking trident, sales will have to be made before the end of the financial year on June 30.
