Inda-Pak tensions disrupt Sikh pilgrimages, raise corridor security concerns

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has been forced to suspend planned visits to Pakistan and the
remains closed for daily pilgrimages to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib (Kartarpur Sahib) in Pakistan.
SGPC secretary Partap Singh on Monday announced that the committee would not send a jatha to Pakistan to observe the death anniversary of Maharaja Ranjit Singh on June 29, citing travel restrictions imposed by the Centre.
He said that a jatha scheduled for May 15, intended to commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of Guru Arjan Dev, also could not proceed for the same reason.
Singh appealed to the central govt to reopen the Kartarpur Corridor, stressing the importance of allowing devotees to fulfil their religious aspirations by visiting Gurdwara Darbar Sahib, Kartarpur Sahib, via the Integrated Check Post at Dera Baba Nanak in Gurdaspur district.
India had suspended the day-long pilgrimage to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib on May 7, just hours after the launch of Operation Sindoor, citing security concerns for pilgrims.
Meanwhile, a religious ceremony was reportedly held at Gurdwara Dera Sahib in Lahore on Monday to observe the martyrdom anniversary of Guru Arjan Dev. This follows an "unprecedented" symbolic reception ceremony organised by the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (PSGPC) at Wagah (Pakistan) on June 9, which media reports suggest was aimed at "inflaming Sikh religious sentiments as part of its ongoing anti-India agenda".

Meanwhile, as more details of Pakistan's alleged espionage network emerge, questions are being raised about the management of the Kartarpur Corridor. It is becoming increasingly evident, according to sources, why the Pakistani govt opted not to entrust the corridor's management to the PSGPC. Instead, it established a new entity, the Project Management Unit (PMU), placing it under the direct control of senior officials from the Pakistan Army and the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
Intelligence agencies indicate that all three people recently arrested on spying charges – Devender Singh Dhillon, Jyoti Malhotra, and Jasbir Singh – had visited Kartarpur Sahib, which is reportedly under the ISI's direct control.
According to media reports, Brigadier Muhammad Latif of the Pakistan Army was appointed as the PMU's first chief executive officer (CEO), later replaced by Muhammad Abu Bakar Aftab Qureshi, a senior ISI deputy director general.
Further concerns were raised when Pakistan constituted a nine-member management team, comprised solely of Muslim officials, to oversee the operations of Gurdwara Darbar Sahib, Kartarpur.
Indian intelligence sources have expressed concern that the appointment of Ramesh Singh Arora as the first Sikh minister in Pakistan's Punjab province may be a strategic move by the ISI. As president of the PSGPC, Arora is reportedly being positioned to expand the ISI's influence among Indian Sikh organisations, using religious outreach and cross-border engagements as a cover for intelligence operations.

As a result, DAP production in India has declined. Additionally, China has also halted the shipment of specialty fertilizers from June 26. These specialty fertilizers are used to boost the yield of fruits, vegetables, and other crops. It is important to note that this agreement will make DAP fertilizer easily available to Indian farmers. The Kharif crop season is currently underway. A shortage of DAP at the beginning could have affected crop production. DAP fertilizer is used immediately after sowing. How is the trade between the two countries? Both India and Saudi Arabia have agreed to strengthen bilateral relations by including other essential fertilizers like urea along with DAP. J.P. Nadda said that this agreement will be highly beneficial for Indian farmers. It will ensure timely availability of fertilizers and improve crop yields. India imported 1.905 million tonnes of DAP from Saudi Arabia in the financial year 2025, which is approximately 17 percent more than the 1.629 million tonnes imported in the previous financial year 2024.

"Lt Governor's Failure Took Us To Brink Of War": Omar Abdullah On Pahalgam
New Delhi: The gloves came off Monday morning after police manhandled Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to stop him from entering the Martyr's Graveyard in Srinagar to pay tribute to Kashmiri protesters killed by Maharaja Hari Singh's Dogra forces on July 13, 1931. Visibly furious, Mr Abdullah spoke to NDTV shortly after videos of police almost assaulting his ministerial colleagues and him made headlines, and repeatedly ripped into the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, first attacking the "idiots" for a "foolish, short-sighted decision" that could cost it the next election, and then demanding fulfillment of its promise to restore J&K's statehood. In the context of the latter point, NDTV asked Mr Abdullah if the Pahalgam terror attack was a setback, i.e., could it mean the federal government might delay statehood citing security concerns. A furious Chief Minister pointed out that Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, the centre's rep in J&K, had taken 'full responsibilty' for the intel failure leading to the attack. "The LG's failure," Mr Abdullah told NDTV, "took us to the brink of war." Mr Abdullah - who recorded a thumping win in last year's Assembly election, the first in a decade in the former state - also warned the BJP against underestimating the Kashmiri people, saying today's actions said the federal government does not care about the people of J&K. On J&K Statehood He then switched tack and took on the BJP over its promise to restore statehood to J&K, which had been bifurcated and divided into two union territories - that of J&K and Ladakh - after the BJP-led centre scrapped Article 370, which gave the former state special status, in 2019. Both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have said statehood will be restored, but neither has provided timelines for that to happen. Mr Abdullah, after he was sworn in last year, said he would work towards restoration of statehood but called for a cooperative approach between the central government and his administration to achieve that end. NEW DELHI: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Monday hit out at the INDIA bloc, dismissing any possibility of joining hands with the bloc ahead of the Bihar elections. Speaking at a public event, Owaisi was quoted by ANI as saying, 'One-sided love is not going to happen... The people of Bihar should understand that the accusations that were made against us were based on lies and were made because they do not want a leader of the poor and oppressed people to become their political leadership. ' Owaisi accused rival parties of attempting to suppress marginalised voices. 'They want the people of Bihar to be their slaves... We will fight our elections well,' he said. Backing the formation of an alternative to both the BJP-led NDA and the INDI alliance, Owaisi reiterated AIMIM's push for a third front. 'Our president, Akhtarul Iman, has said that we should try to form a third front... This was an effort from our side... Everything has come before the people of Bihar for a reason,' Owaisi added.
