Little-known tanning brand beauty editors swear by gives the most natural glow
I'm no stranger to fake tanning, with Isle of Paradise and Bare by Vogue being two of my favourites, but recently I'd been seeing a lot about a range of tans that admittedly I hadn't heard of before: Three Warriors. A bit of digging later and I realised why it was on my radar: it's the brand of choice for James Harknett, the tan expert behind many a celebrity's golden glow, and the go-to for beauty editors ahead of their weddings.
Keen to see if the Three Warriors products could give me a similar type of luxe, natural bronze, I put Three Warriors' Hydrabronze Tan Drops, £38 – a serum that's to be mixed into your skincare serum or moisturiser, and my favourite way to tan my face – to the test, and I think I can see why it's such a favourite...
First up, a look at the ingredients list of Hydrabronze Tan Drops should let you know that it's going to be good; it's high in skincare ingredients such as hydrolysed collagen, hyaluronic acid and niacinamide.
The instructions state to add 2-4 drops to your moisturiser – I went for four drops, which was definitely a good shout, as even this maximum amount gave quite a subtle colour with the Light To Medium shade I picked (there's also a Medium To Dark). It mixed in really well with my favourite moisturiser, glided really evenly onto the skin, and dried quickly (don't forget to wash your hands!).
The next morning, I was so happy with the resulting colour – natural, even and non-orange, with the difference not so striking that people will know that you've fake tanned the night before (think healthy weekend in the sun rather than three weeks in the Caribbean).
If I was after slightly deeper colour, however, I'd be tempted to try the Medium To Dark shade, or else go back to my favourite Isle of Paradise Face Tanning Drops in Medium, currently £14.24.
Isle of Paradise also makes one of my favourite tans for the body: Glow Clear Self-Tanning Mousse, also in the shade Medium, and currently reduced to £15.96. It's easy to apply with a mitt, although being clear with no guide colour, you do have to be diligent about blending it in well, especially around drier areas such as the knees, elbows, hands and feet (I like to apply a rich body cream in these spots first, and then once again after applying the tan). However as it's transparent, it doesn't transfer onto clothing or bedding – a major plus in my eyes.
It makes my limbs look a very natural shade of golden, with any lingering greyness, redness or imperfections minimised. I felt really confident wearing my summery shorts and dresses while away on holiday recently, and not like some ghostly pale Brit who spends most of her life indoors.

READ MORE: The seven best beauty deals you can get in Amazon Prime day deal chosen by an expert LATEST: Elizabeth Taylor's perfume that 'every woman should have' now less than £20 on Amazon It has a tropical mango and guava scent to it, which might be a nice change for appliers that have experienced a biscuity-smell with previous fake tan products. The mousse is said to be lightweight, fast drying, non-sticky, and develops in two hours for a long-lasting tan. According to its description, "a little goes a long way", as each bottle has roughly 260 pumps and can last approximately 10-20 full body tanning sessions. If you are looking for a fake tan product that has a cheaper price tag, LookFantastic is offering a discount price on its Bondi Sands Liquid Gold Self Tanning Foam, which was £17.49 but is now £13.12. On Boots, the Isle of Paradise 30 Minute Express Self-Tanning Mousse 200ml, is sold for £21.95. The best way to apply fake tan, is to firstly, make sure your skin is all clean, deodorant, perfume, lotion or deodorant-free. Then, apply the fake tan in a circular motion, with a small pump for the tricky-to-tan areas, like feet, hands, face and ears. After two hours, shower in warm water and gently pat the skin dry with a towel. If you want a deeper, longer-lasting tan, it may be worth sleeping overnight with the coat of applied tan, but make sure you wear dark clothing to avoid any potential stains. The Coco & Eve self-tanner mousse is also cruelty-free, vegan, all natural and has never been tested on animals. The product has received a rating of 4.4 out of five stars and over 8,000 reviews. "I'm mega impressed with this one," one happy customer said. "I just wanted something for my legs as they never see the light of day and are pale. "This stuff is fab!! It goes on so easily, develops a lovely colour, no streaks and smells fab! I hate that fake tan smell, but I honestly can't smell it with this! Really happy and will be my go to from now on." Another shopper said: "I rarely leave reviews but this product is amazing. I'm a real novice using fake tan but I followed instructions of exfoliating and moisturising before using etc. "It didn't streak at all and colour is beautiful without being too dark for me as I'm quite light skinned. I used it for my daughter's wedding and had loads of compliments about it (guests thought I'd recently been away on holiday!). I will definitely buy more." While another reviewer described it as "outstanding" and added: "I am a very pale skinned person who has been advised to not sit in the sun. So Coco and Eve is the perfect solution! Easy to apply, no streaking and no horrid smell. I recommend this to all who want a tan without the sun . Don't buy any other product." They said: "Not a fan of this tan at all. Goes on green then once rinsed off is orange. I got the darkest tan and I'm pale and used 2 coats and wasn't dark at all. Not sure if I just received a bad batch as others seem to really like it but I would not purchase again when other tans are much better and cheaper too."

'I'm stocking up on my favourite streak-free fake tan this Prime Day'
As a shopping writer I've tried out a lot of fake tans, but this Isle of Paradise one is so good I'm stocking up on multiple while it's in the Prime Day sale As a naturally pale girl achieving a natural tan can be quite the challenge. It requires hours of sunbathing and given the UK's notorious lack of sunshine, coupled with the risk of skin damage, it's just not worth the hassle for me. However, I still like to have that 'I just got back from holiday glow', and after having tried many different fake tans over the years, I always come back to one. The tan in question is the Isle of Paradise Express Self-Tanning Mousse. And as Amazon Prime Day(s) has officially kicked off, I'm taking it as my opportunity to stock up for the rest of year. Originally priced at £21.95, this mousse is now 35% off, bringing its price down to a slightly more wallet-friendly £14.49. It's not very often I spot this particular fake tan on offer on Amazon, so I'm very happy to see it in the sale. I'm not much of a planner, often leaving important details, like fake tanning for an event, to the last minute so an express tan is a must-have for me, and I think this one is the best. I do have other favourites such as St Tropez's Express Bronzing Mousse, currently £25.50 at LookFantastic, and Loving Tan's 2HR Express Mousse, priced at £36.95. However Isle of Paradise's comes out on top for me. Developing in as little as 30 minutes, this tan is ideal if you're short on time but still want that holiday glow. The formula dries almost instantly, so there's no sticky and awkward waiting-around moment or stained clothes. It's also packed full of hydrating hyaluronic acid and brightening vitamin C so it leaves the skin feeling soft and nourished. On top of that, it uses clever colour-correcting tech to avoid any dreaded tangerine tones, resulting in a natural-looking and streak-free tan that will have your friends asking if you've just got back from a tropical holiday. The only issue I sometimes find with this tanner is that the pump can become faulty, resulting in the product coming out too liquidy rather than as a mousse. EXCLUSIVE I have seen politicians, royalty and movie stars naked - this is why you need to stop hating your body
Spray tanner to the stars Jules Von Hep revealed how the beauty industry 'conditions you to hate the way you look' on the latest episode of the Mail's The Life of Bryony podcast. Von Hep co-founded the celebrated tanning brand Isle of Paradise and has over twenty years of experience spray tanning 'every type of person', from bridesmaids to politicians and movie stars. After recently leaving the company he helped create, Von Hep now dedicates his time to spreading a body positive message to his over 109,000 Instagram followers. Having struggled with body image issues throughout his career, the beauty industry insider has channelled the lessons from his personal life and career into a new self-help book, The Confidence Ritual, which is available now. 'Everybody, whether they're famous or not, has some kind of hangup when it comes to their body', Von Hep told Mail columnist Bryony Gordon. 'This was a massive learning experience for me, and I realised that everyone is conditioned to hate the way they look. 'Everyone I worked with – when they enter the spray tan tent and take their clothes off – the first reaction is always an apology. 'We are told to hate the way we look in order to sell products so brands can make money. They need to make us believe we have a problem which doesn't really exist.' Von Hep has made it his mission to counter these sinister sales tactics by helping people love their bodies as they are. He explained: 'I am not teaching anyone something new, I am teaching you how to unlearn the beauty industry's programming. 'We're not born hating our bodies – it's a learned behaviour through our teenage years and into our early twenties. That's when we first think there's something wrong with us. 'Whatever you think you have on your body – I'll tell you now, as someone who has stared at naked bodies for literally twenty years, someone else has it. 'Don't stress about it because your body is carrying you through this life. It's giving you every experience, every joy and every moment to be present. Listen to The Life of Bryony podcast Ever feel like everyone else has it together while you're barely hanging on? Join Bryony Gordon for honest, unfiltered conversations about life's messier moments – from anxiety and heartbreak to addiction and loss. Listen wherever you get your podcasts now. 'You've got to be grateful. Don't waste time hating it.' To prove his point, Von Hep recounted an experience from a fashion shoot that exposed the industry's distortion of body image. 'I remember tanning a very famous model for a fashion shoot', Von Hep said. 'She was naked, lying on the side of a pool. I was on the set with my little kit bag running on and off, moisturising her thighs and shoulders. 'I remember looking up at the monitor - she looked great in the pictures. Anyway, six months later, that image was on the side of busses and used in TV campaigns. It was everywhere. 'When I saw it, I thought to myself: f*** me, her ass didn't look like that on set. All her cellulite was gone; all her wrinkles had been removed. 'I was with my friends at the time, and I remember thinking, they don't know she has been retouched. They actually think she looks like that – and I know she doesn't. 'It was a light bulb moment. People need to know that every image they look at has been retouched. It could be a flyaway hair; it could be a wrinkle. 'I know celebrities who have it in their contract to remove one wrinkle from one hooded eye every time an image of them goes out. 'People are beautiful exactly the way they are – it's all so pernicious.'
