Kooks urge ‘peace and love and sun cream' at TRNSMT festival

Glasgow Times6 days ago
Known for their hits Naive and She Moves In Her Own Way, they said they were excited to play TRNSMT on Saturday, even with the 30C weather.
Frontman Luke Pritchard told the PA news agency The Kooks had 'got their mojo' back with their latest album Never/Know.
He said he was honoured to be invited back to the festival again and again since playing it at its debut in 2017.
Asked how he would describe the festival in Glasgow, the singer said it was 'warm, electric and quite intense'.
Kooks frontman Luke Pritchard and Hugh Harris said they were honoured to play TRNSMT (Lesley Martin/PA)
'We are so excited,' he said.
'We've been looking forward to this for ages. We have played TRNSMT so many times, and so we feel very honoured, lucky – it's like coming home, so I feel good.
'And we've got a new album to play. It's positive record – soul, rock and roll.
'Took it back to the roots of the band with a bit of modern energy.
'It seems to have gone down very well, especially with our fans.'
Never/Know is out now! Thank you so much to everyone who worked on this album with us, we're so excited for you to hear it and can't wait to take it on the road across the US later this month and UK for our October tour. Thank you to everyone who pre-saved, pre-ordered and has… pic.twitter.com/1eDTdXMYzi

Hugh Harris, the band's lead guitarist, added, 'We love it. We are just honoured to still be doing this 20 years later', having played TRNSMT's predecessor T in the Park in the 2000s, which he described with a smile as 'chaos'.
But what is different this time, according to Mr Pritchard, is 'we've got our mojo back'.
'You know, you go through ups and downs so it's a good time to come back.
'But you're right, every few years we seem to be here and we don't ask too many questions about that – we'd play here every year if they wanted us to.'
The band said one of their favourite memories in Scotland was playing the classic Glasgow venue King Tut's Wah Wah Hut, before going to the Blue Lagoon chip shop.
Mr Pritchard said: 'After the gig we always used to get deep-fried haggis. It was amazing.'
Asked for advice for festival-goers attending TRNSMT in the sweltering heat, Mr Pritchard said: 'Just peace and love, you know, and stop crying. Peace and Love and sun cream.'
Mr Harris added: 'Make sure you slip that slop on each other's backs, that bit in the middle that gets no attention. Don't forget that bit. Electrolytes.'
The guitarist added that now more than ever, events like TRNSMT were needed: 'There's a frisson to it.
'It's people coming together – that's what festivals are for.
'People having a good time and being as one, feeling as one in quite an isolated time at the minute.
'So we need spaces like this for people.'

Kneecap's Glasgow Hydro gig sells out as rap trio headline their biggest Scottish show yet

In a jibe to First Minister John Swinney, the band said "A very special thank you to our Head of PR in Scotland Mr John Swinney... best in the business". Kneecap is set to make a return to Glasgow this winter as part of their "biggest run of shows ever" with tickets selling out shortly after going on sale. ‌ The Belfast based rap trio - Mo Chara, Móglaí Bap, and DJ Próvaí - will perform 14 shows across Scotland, England and Wales later this year. The tour includes a headline performances at Glasgow's OVO Hydro on November 30, 2025, marking the groups biggest show in Glasgow to date. ‌ Originally slated to play 11 shows, the group extended the tour by adding three additional dates in Leeds, Sheffield, and Manchester after pre-sale tickets sold out almost immediately due to overwhelming demand. ‌ And now it appears the gig has sold out. Taking to Instagram, Kneecap's official account wrote: "Glasgow SOLD OUT in a few hours. 13,000 Scottish F****** comrades... let's go!" In a jibe to First Minister John Swinney, they added: "A very special thank you to our Head of PR in Scotland Mr John Swinney... best in the business". ‌ Swinney played down his beef with Kneecap after he was called out by the Irish rappers at a gig in Glasgow earlier this month. The SNP leader previously warned some of the group's political sloganeering was "beyond the pale". The group hit back during their O2 Academy show on July 8, with Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh, who performs under the name Mo Chara asking the crowd: " What's your First Minister's name?" ‌ "They stopped us playing TRNSMT but they can't stop us playing Glasgow." Taking to Instagram to initially announce the tour, Kneecap's official account wrote: "Here we go. We're back in November across Scotland, England and Wales to play our biggest run of shows ever. "The Prime Minister himself cant stop could stop sending bombs to Israel but that's another story..." ‌ Alongside their tour poster - which shows the trio in a bright green car emblazoned with the phrase "Irish Independence Traders" - the band also made a nod to their political stance. The car's number plate reads "26+6=1," a well-known slogan advocating for a united Ireland, referring to the 26 counties of the Republic of Ireland and the 6 counties of Northern Ireland coming together as one. ‌ Their winter tour follows controversy earlier this year when Kneecap were originally headlining the King Tut's stage at TRNSMT 2025 but were dropped from the line-up in May after Police Scotland raised public safety concerns. At the time, a Police Scotland spokesperson stated: "Any decision on the line-up at TRNSMT is for the organisers, and there was no prior consultation with Police Scotland before acts were booked. "Officers have highlighted that the potential reaction of such a large audience to this band would require a significant policing operation in order to support the delivery of a safe event. ‌ "We have also passed on information from the public around safety concerns to allow organisers to make an informed decision on the running of the festival." Following their removal, Kneecap instead played a sold-out show at Glasgow's O2 Academy on Tuesday, July 8 - the week of the festival - insisting they wouldn't let fans down. Over 2,500 tickets were snapped up in just 80 seconds. Now, the trio is scaling up, preparing for their biggest Scottish show yet at the 14,000-capacity OVO Hydro.

Police rule out further action over Kneecap's Glastonbury performance

Avon and Somerset Police said it will be taking 'no further action' on the grounds that there is 'insufficient evidence to provide a realistic prospect of conviction for any offence'. The investigation was announced in June after officers reviewed video footage and audio recordings from the sets of Kneecap and punk duo Bob Vylan at the festival. On Friday, the Belfast group posted an screenshot of a redacted email from a senior investigating officer on social media, confirming that 'no further action' would be taken. In the caption of their post, Kneecap said: 'One element of the political policing intimidation attempt is over. 'We played a historic set at Glastonbury. Whole area closed an hour before due to crowds. A celebration of love and solidarity. A sea of good people at the world's most famous festival.' Avon and Somerset Police said: 'An investigation has been carried out into comments about a forthcoming court case made during Kneecap's performance at Glastonbury Festival on Saturday 28 June. 'Detectives sought advice from the Crown Prosecution Service during their enquiries and after that advice, we have made the decision to take no further action on the grounds there is insufficient evidence to provide a realistic prospect of conviction for any offence.' During Bob Vylan's performance, rapper Bobby Vylan chanted 'death, death to the IDF (Israel Defence Forces)', while a member of Kneecap suggested fans 'start a riot' outside his bandmate's upcoming court appearance. Band member Liam Og O hAnnaidh, who performs under the stage name Mo Chara, was charged in May with a terrorism offence relating to displaying a flag in support of Hezbollah at the O2 Forum in Kentish Town, north London, during a gig in November 2024. The group recently performed at Glasgow's O2 Academy, in a gig which sold out in 80 seconds. They were due to perform at TRNSMT festival in Glasgow, but their set was axed after concerns raised by police. Kneecap fans defend Glastonbury performance as BBC say it will not be live-streamed Earlier this week they announced new tour dates to play their 'biggest run of shows ever' across Scotland, Wales and England. Their tour will start in Bournemouth on November 14 before moving on to Liverpool, Newcastle and Glasgow. Kneecap will also perform in London at the previously announced show at OVO Arena Wembley on September 18.

Holly joined the reality show in 2011 before quitting at the end of 2016. "Do you have any regrets from Geordie Shore?" one fan asked Holly, Holly then replied to the fan and got very candid in he response. "I do regret the first night and wish someone had stepped in to stop the lads egging me on to keep downing shots," she said. She went on: "I'd never even drank a Jägerbomb before that. "Of course, I had my own mind and take responsibility for that but I was very young and naive at 18 and probably could have done with some duty of care/ welfare in that moment." The Sun has contacted Geordie Shore for comment. Holly, who has been married to footballer husband Jacob Blyth since 2022, has one son, Alpha-Jax (AJ), born in June 2023. During her Q&A this week, Holly said she was due to expand her family earlier this year, but tragically had a miscarriage. Geordie Shore star hits out at MTV after being 'fired' Somebody asked her if she wanted more children, to which she shared a picture of two positive pregnancy tests. Alongside the snap, she said: "Thank you. "And just because 90% of the questions are about when we're having another and I do get constant comments like 'AJ needs a sibling' and I'm like I KNOWW!! "I did want to speak about it at the time but didn't know how and didn't want any sympathy. Geordie Shore's Holly Hagan cosmetic surgery history in full Holly had her first boob job aged 18 at a cost of £4,000, which she paid for on finance. Less than a year later, she went from an FF cup to a GG cup. She said she 'looked at people like Katie Price' before committing to the surgery. In 2014, Holly got lip fillers and Botox which left her with what she called 'sausage lips'. Three years later she had a controversial Brazilian bum lift - where fat is liposuctioned from another part of the body and injected into the bum. Just a few months later and dissatisfied with the result, Holly flew to Turkey for a second BBL, which didn't go to plan. She paid £5k for the procedure - which costs around £15k in the UK - but said it wasn't worth it as she was left scared and covered in blood after the operation. A third BBL happened in January 2017 - meaning she'd had three operations in less than a year - but that 'made it worse' and was a 'really low time'. Holly's final surgery took place in 2019 where she had a boob reduction that took her from an FF cup down to a DD cup. She has since committed to achieving a more natural and healthier look. "(And still don't so please don't message lol) but we did miscarry in March." She added: "Just a reminder the be mindful when commenting saying 'when's the next' because how on earth would we know that." Holly and her husband Jacob met after she shot to fame on television. The pair met in 2017 and got engaged in 2019 during a trip to Ibiza. They then tied the knot three years ago, with the marriage ceremony featured on MTV. 5 Holly has majorly overhauled her appearance in recent years Credit: TikTok/@hollyhaganx
